Don Banks first round losers
CaliforniaCheez replied to Billsguy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After 97 picks of the 3 rounds only 4 DT's have been taken. 3 in the first round and 1 bad character guy in the third round. Some would say McCargo would be available later and others would say there are few quality DT's in the draft and the Bills had to jump in to get one. Many draft guides 2nd and 3rd round DT's are still on the board after day one. Did teams not want DT's or were there really few quality DT's in this draft? -
That would be baloney. 1) Ted Thompson, GM of the Packers, has never traded up in a draft. 2) He is shopping Walker for additional pick(s) not fewer. 3) Trading up for Bush?? Forget about it. One player is not worth it. 4) Reggie Bush salary demands made him drop and Ted is on the cheap side. Edit WTMJ in Milwaukee has retracted the story. Bill Michaels said that they were not even close. http://www.620wtmj.com/_content/wtmj/streaming.asp

NFL game re-airs on NFL Network 2006
CaliforniaCheez replied to Mr Info's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is why I no longer subscribe. During the preseason last year all the games were rebroadcast and you could watch individual players and evaluate. They aired a sold out Lambeau Field for a scrimmage between the Bills and Packers(I think the practices and scrimmage went well). Then the season started and you got 2 old playoff games repeated through the week. 1) They could have done a lot with NFL films like Football Follies once in awhile. 2) They could do an hour show every day on the status of teams in a different division. 12 minutes on a team then 3 minutes of commercials. 12 minutes a week on team news is not too much. 3) With now 40 Superbowls they could once a week show one. It would take 9 months before they would repeat them. They could show playoff games leading to those superbowls on days preceding the airing of the super bowl. 4) a half hour show going over each teams draft would be good for the dead time until training camp starts. There is so much that could be done that isn't. I may subscribe again but they have to do more with the network. -
One thing I will say about Jauron
CaliforniaCheez replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In 01 Juron had the Bears go 13-3. He has always been a good coach and coordinator. Marv will have a few chats with him. A good QB will take the Bills a long way and you have Craig Nall!! I believe Juron and Nall are going to make h other look very good. I think many of you underestimate the talent on the Bills roster. I hope Nall has 15 great games this year. -
D'Brick ... who might be interested?
CaliforniaCheez replied to damj's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As someone who has followed the Packers, their biggest need is a starting OG and a lesser need is a back up OT. Ferguson fits those in one pick and if available the Packers take Ferguson. Their second need is at LB. Hawk has been inked in for Green Bay on almost every mock draft because he is the right player at the right place on the draft board for them. New Orleans could sure use him though. If Ferguson, Williams, Hawk are gone the Packers will trade down with someone wanting a QB. The Packers are drafting too high for the #1 WR which may go to Eagles at #14. The Packers won't take Davis. They can use TE depth but not a #1 pick. I think the 49'ers may consider a DB instead of Davis. Personally Davis has speed but problems catching the ball. The 49'ers have many holes and can go with the BPA approach. Oakland needs D-linemen most. They would like Hawk. They and the Packers have agreed on what the price of exchanging picks would be. With the draft underway both sides would have to pull the trigger. It is not far enough down for the Packers to take Justice here instead of Hawk at #5. I'm not sure I really like the first round DT's. Buffalo should consider Justice or trading down. -
The key to the draft is where the QB's (I think they are over hyped) go. The Titans have Volek who is a good QB. They can wait on a QB until a later round. The Jets might take the a QB if the top linemen are gone. The Raiders, I believe, do not want a QB. The got the best of the rookie QB's last year(IMHO). They lost Ted Washington, Sapp is old, and their DE's can be improved. I think they go with the top DT. If none or if one QB is gone Detroit could very well want one. When the Bills are on the clock Cardinals, Vikings and possibly Dallas(no depth behind Bledsoe) could be calling to get ahead of Detroit. The Cardinals would offer a 4th(107) and 5th(142) The Vikings would have to offer one of their 2 second round picks (48) and and 5th (149). That is a good offer. The Cowboys would have to offer their 2nd round pick (49) plus a pick in 2007. Likely their 3rd round pick. A lot of the draft depends on who the Titans pick and secondarily who the Jets select. Teams may trade up for a QB but some of the other positions they will not trade so far. Selections would have to fall in a certain way for a good trade down to take place. If you want picks the best way to get them is not have the QB's drafted.

Didn't Ricky play for free almost last year because he owed the Dolphins several million dollars from a signing bonus? How will he pay back the Dolphins?? He has saved less than a quarter million out of all the money he has been paid.

What makes a trade down worth it to you?

With the 8th selection...
CaliforniaCheez replied to BuckeyeBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills if able should be able to trade down and get a one of the DT's if the Raiders do not take one. Possibly the 1st one at #10 and add a 4th round pick. I think the Bills can trade down to #12 and get the 2nd DT Bunkley and another third round pick. If Justice is there at 8 take him. Who the Jets take should prompt Marv onto the phone with whatever contingency plan, A,B,C, or D. A is no QB taken, B is one taken, C is two taken. D would be if the Raiders take Ngata or Bunkley. #9 Detroit will likely Justice if he is there. #11 The Rams lost both starting DT's in free agency and could very well take one. Ferguson, Hawk, and Bush seem to be the players most ready to go at the NFL level and none should get past the Packers. -
Justice just fired his agent for spending too much attention on Leinart. Ferguson is too good to pass up. LT's are valuable. Justice should be available at 8. He will likely not be around after 12.

Marv Ends Losman Trade Talk
CaliforniaCheez replied to drhockey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gee a reporter made something up? "It must be true I read it on the internet!" BTW some stats for stat junkies: Eli Manning has thrown 30 TD in 754 attempts with 26 INT's for a QB rating of 70.5. Alex Smith has thrown 1 TD in 165 attempts with 11 INT's for a QB rating of 40.8. Aaron Rodgers has thrown 0 TD in 16 attempts with 1 INT for a QB rating of 39.8. Phillip Rivers has thrown 1 TD in 30 attempts with 1 INT for a QB rating of 67.1. J. P. Losman has 8 TD in 233 attempts with 9 INT's for a QB rating of 63.5. Craig Nall has thrown 4 TD's in 33 attempts with 0 INT's for a QB rating of 139.4 Marv has this under control. Young QB's struggle for awhile. It is part of the investment in them. Why throw that investment away? -
Favre is always a team guy. He wants the team to win. He will throw blocks, play with a broken throwing hand, redo his contract, anything to help the team. He plays all out to win. If there is no one in the front office with the goal of winning a Super Bowl why should he sacrifice and work hard when the front office is not supporting you. Imagine having multiple situations like Moulds this year and instead of having them work a trade and getting something in exchange they are just cut. Free agents just let go(like Nall) for nothing? His end of the year press conference he said he was not sure that team management wanted him back. The coaching staff was fired even down to the assistant weight room manager(former Packer player). The new GM in Green Bay has pushed many people out shaking up the whole team. The Packers are rebuilding but are doing it from the bottom of the roster up. Only 3 guys remain on the team from 1999(Brett being one). In Favre's whole career he has never had a losing season until last year. He is 36 and can play for years but wants success for the team to be successful not himself. If it was about him and records he would would keep playing and have every passing one by the end of 2007. Brett wants the team to get better but sees the GM dragging his feet on a five year plan. Who wants to play lumberjack when the other guys(front office) won't lift their end of the log?

I saw Marv and Tasker do the Packer game twice on NFL network. I was impressed because they spoke football and they knew what they were talking about. They did their homework and did not mispronounce names. I would rather have them than "broadcasters" who talk about fashion, local restaurants, and their conversations with the coaches. I watch football because I like it; not to hear idle chatter. I would much rather have Marv in the booth than Tony Korn Hoser. Marv knows what he is talking about.

good piece by dr. z on the top of the draft
CaliforniaCheez replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everybody is good until they are drafted. Then they are just rookies. -
http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20060329/1012563.asp Jauron said he and offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild will try to keep the practice repetitions for the QBs equal even when they get to training camp. He's not certain there will be a clear pecking order by June. It keeps looking better for Nall.

Losman on the trading block?
CaliforniaCheez replied to Gambler's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looks like two threads on same subject. You don't just get rid of a 1st round QB that you invested 2 years training. QB's take time to develop. It should be encouraging to read this part: "(Nall) obviously doesn't have a lot of playing time. But when he's played he's performed well. He's been accurate with the football. He's a good decision maker. He's got experience. We're not teaching the guy how to play. All he has to do is transfer information. He should be able to step up and compete. He's got good size (6-foot-3, 230 pounds). I like his size – his height in the pocket. I like his demeanor. I like the way he handled himself in interviews. He's a very competitive guy. He believes he can be a starter and should be a starter." 645724[/snapback] Marv may have gotten a starter very cheap. Either way the better QB will be starting. There will be no trade without competition first. Next year at earliest. -
Losman on the trading block?
CaliforniaCheez replied to Gambler's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
These stories are such baloney. It takes time for QB's to develop. Why throw away the time invested to date? I did like this part though: -
I think the first listed players is most likely to be drafted. Texans Bush or Ferguson Saints Williams or Hawk Titans Leinhart or Bush Jets Ferguson or Leinhart Packers Hawk or Williams 49'ers Huff or Ngata Raiders Ngata or Huff Do the Bills go for best on the board or more for need? When the Bills turn comes the best on the board is Davis. OT Winston Justice is a valuable guy and worthy a higher first round grade. Living in Northern CA I know the Raiders want/need D linemen desperately. To get Ngata the Bills will have to trade up ahead of the Raiders and possibly the 49'ers. The cost of trading in this portion of the draft is too much. So my long winded answer is Vernon Davis but would not be suprised if it is Justice as OT's are always valuable.

A MNF doubleheader?
CaliforniaCheez replied to Sen. John Blutarsky's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As a West Coast guy this could be good. The problem is if they start the game at 8pm Eastern it is only 5 on the West Coast. 9 PM Eastern is 6 pm here and nearly every bar has a happy hour special for MNF. Having the game 6-9 is great. If they start at 5 pm they will lose West Coast audience but the thought of having a game 8- 11 out here is good one. MNF experimented many times with the 5-8 pm format but they lost more West Coast audience from 5-6 here than they lost on the East Coast 11pm to Midnight there. I don't know how you can wait until 1 pm for a Sunday game!! Football is set for the West Coast. 10 am game start on Sunday, second game at 1 pm and the final game is done at 8-8:30 so you can get to bed for work the next day. MNF is for happy hour, 6-9 pm, perfect. I feel sorry for you East Coast folks not getting to enjoy football. -
Moulds is not going to be replaced for another big
CaliforniaCheez replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Walker is not a big dollar contract. 2006 1.15 million with .5 million in incentives. After the new CBA created inflation in salaries that is not too much. How many teams can afford the 6 million cap # Moulds earns in base salary? The eagles need a receiver and the Packers want to trade one. A Moulds trade will likely be with the eagles or Packers. Also Walker fired Rosenhaus as his agent last fall. -
So Moulds IS getting some play
CaliforniaCheez replied to Mile High's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are Packer fans who don't like it either so it could be a good trade. There are Packer fans also saying the Packers get ripped off in this trade. The thing is both teams could be facing losing the guys without compensation. Would the Bills just cut Moulds? They could find a worse trade. It is a deal that would benefit both teams and as to draft picks etc the details could be worked out. Walker has a base salary of 1.15 million in 2006 and has 500K in incentives in his contract. Moulds is 6 million in salary to the Packers but 10 million against the cap for the Bills. Walker has wanted to renegotiate his contract after his Pro Bowl season. He is not a head case he is just mad because the #3 receiver makes 3 times the money he does and it burns him up. The Bills want to renegotiate Moulds. A deal where both gain and both don't lose could be a good one. You are never entirely happy with these but sometimes you get the best deal you can when you can. Walker is younger and cheaper. Throwing in a pick compensates for that but if the details can work out it can be good for both teams. -
I like the various Javon Walker for Moulds scenarios. The Bills get a younger cheaper receiver and the packers get a couple of years out of a good receiver they will not get from Walker. Walker has a base salary of about 1.1 million and 500K in incentives for the final year of his rookie contract. He would be playing for a new contract and want to perform. The Packers get Moulds for 6 million a year and Buffalo absorbs the accerlated signing bonus. Moulds could recapture some stardom with Brett Favre getting him the ball. The Packers may want a draft choice to make up the differences in ages and salary. The Bills have a "extra" #3. But those details can be worked out. The Packers have one of if not the highest amount of cap room remaining and will pounce if Moulds is simply cut. If the Packers and Bills work together each can benefit and both avoid losing a player without compensation.

5th rounder to GB for Javon Walker?
CaliforniaCheez replied to WVUFootball29's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As a Packer fan I think a straight up trade would shut both players up. I think it is a good deal because: 1) Walker got an 8 on his Wonderlic score. He knows only one WR position after 4 years. He would take much time to learn the offense. 2) In 4 years he has 2444 yards. 3) Last year he tore his ACL. 4) He is on his 3rd agent in three years. Rosenhaus was fired. After he got a 1000 yards for his only time in 04 season he wanted to renegotiate his rookie contract. 5) He has had only one good season and that was when 2 other receivers were injured. Be careful what you wish for it can happen. The Packers would like Walker to shut up and play but since the end of the 2004 season he thinks he can just tear up his contract. -
Salary Cap Update 3/9
CaliforniaCheez replied to clumping platelets's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey clumping, I see that you have some cap pages saved. Since the Packers are an opponent this year I'll give you theirs for reference. http://members.cox.net/cappage/2006cap.htm If you use it in the future just make sure you keep the year current. -
Nall to only compete for backup job

Well okay, I probably should have said pleasantly suprised. Ol' Marv got a real bargain.
