Global warming err Climate change HOAX
truth on hold replied to Very wide right's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
well that's some progress from this ... A Republican congressman hoping to chair the powerful House Energy Committee refers to the Bible and God on the issue of global warming. Representative John Shimkus insists we shouldn't concerned about the planet being destroyed because God promised Noah it wouldn't happen again after the great flood. Speaking before a House Energy Subcommittee on Energy and Environment hearing in March, 2009, Shimkus quoted Chapter 8, Verse 22 of the Book of Genesis. He said: 'As long as the earth endures, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never cease.' The Illinois Republican continued: 'I believe that is the infallible word of God, and that's the way it is going to be for his creation. 'The earth will end only when God declares its time to be over. Man will not destroy this earth. This earth will not be destroyed by a flood. Makes no sense. Given portability the only effective gun law would be nationally instituted. Saying you can judge the efficacy of gun laws by citing Chicago which is surrounded by counties where guns can be purchased and easily taken into Chicago, is about as meaningful as regulating them in only one suburb of buffalo.

Probably a relatively safe assumption you made to eliminate commercial agenda as a motive, since the apologists on this board sound unemployable. Anyway, I note the link isn't working, here it is again http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2015/06/19/guns-in-america-for-every-criminal-killed-in-self-defense-34-innocent-people-die/

Pope Francis ain't messing around
truth on hold replied to Deranged Rhino's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
This pope rules. Pope Francis: Divorce can be morally necessary It is morally necessary to break up bad marriages when the safety of women and children is at stake, Pope Francis said Wednesday, marking a massive shift in tone in the Catholic view about matrimony. There are cases in which separation is inevitable, he told his weekly audience. Sometimes, it can even be morally necessary, when its about shielding the weaker spouse or young children from the more serious wounds caused by intimidation and violence, humiliation and exploitation. http://nypost.com/2015/06/25/pope-francis-divorce-can-be-morally-necessary/ -

This the horrifically bad mentality that's out there in this country. This politician's view is the victims share responsibility for their fate, because they weren't packing weapons in church. Parroting the NRA's position the answer to gun violence is more guns S.C. lawmaker: Charleston victims 'waited their turn to be shot' Columbia, South Carolina (CNN)A South Carolina lawmaker expressed regret Wednesday after seemingly questioning why the victims in the Charleston shooting didn't do more to defend themselves. State Rep. Bill Chumley, a Republican who represents Spartanburg, told CNN on Tuesday that "We need to be focusing on the nine families that are left and see that this doesn't happen again. These people sat in there and waited their turn to be shot. That's sad that somebody in there with the means of self-defense could have stopped this." http://edition.cnn.com/2015/06/23/politics/confederate-flag-south-carolina-debate-oppose/

Former CIA officer says US policies helped create IS Radikal: How do you think ISIS [iS] was born? Fuller: I think the United States is one of the key creators of this organization. The United States did not plan the formation of ISIS, but its destructive interventions in the Middle East and the war in Iraq were the basic causes of the birth of ISIS. You will remember that that the starting point of this organization was to protest the US invasion of Iraq. In those days it was supported by many non-Islamist Sunnis as well because of their opposition to the Iraq's occupation. Politicians market to their donors, companies to the more general customer population. Repubes are so far out of touch catering to billionaire donors like hunt brothers and Sheldon adelson, its scary. And it's only getting worse. They're rolling out the red carpet for Hillary in 2016

Interesting development that private sector is taking the lead over public sector in enforcing values in line with the populace. CEOs wade into debate over South Carolina's Confederate flag In wake of the shooting, Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook wrote on Twitter, "My thoughts are with the victim's families in SC. Let us honor their lives by eradicating racism & removing the symbols & words that feed it." Microsoft (MSFT) CEO Satya Nadella, also writing on Twitter, said he hoped that "together we can convert hate & racism to peace & understanding around the globe." Companies aren't limiting themselves to words. Walmart (WMT), the biggest retailer in the world, said Monday that it's removing all items featuring the Confederate flag from its stores and website. Although it may be true that CEOs are speaking out mostly on social issues around which there is clear or growing public consensus, such as the rising and widespread support for gay marriage, there's another reason why corporate leaders are staking out a position on non-business issues: It's good business. Surveys show that consumers increasingly want to support companies whose products and business practices align with their personal values. That's increasingly true for the millennial generation, or those Americans currently between the ages of 18 to 34. This group recently surpassed the baby boomers as America's largest generation, and will have increasing purchasing power as they get jobs and climb the income ladder. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/ceos-urge-end-to-racism-south-carolinas-confederate-flag/?google_editors_picks=true

What puzzles me is the amount they paid for it. $5 million is a ton of money. I'd want to see a breakdown of how it was spent.

So the NFL spends $5 million for a report the findings of which it may not be able to enforce? Wow that goodell is bumbler. NFL RUMORS: New England Patriots QB Tom Brady Could Be Back For Week One Thanks To An Injunction? "I think Roger Goodell is in a very difficult spot here going forward," Schefter said. "I know that the league has taken a stand on all these cases and we've seen him weigh his [power] in all these cases, but I think this is a case somehow, someway, they've invested a lot in terms of the Wells Report. It cost the NFL upwards of $5 million for the Wells Report and we've seen the American Enterprise Institute and Science Times blow holes in it." http://www.hngn.com/articles/103424/20150623/nfl-rumors-new-england-patriots-qb-tom-brady-could-be-back-for-week-one-thanks-to-an-injunction.htm

If Spieth doesn't win British Open (like to see someone have a chance at all 4 majors in a year), then I hope Dustin wins it

Goodwin attempting to make 2016 Olympics
truth on hold replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably the best place for him. We're all dazzled by his speed, but he's just not physically cut out for NFL. And the injuries he's compiling will eventually knock him out as an Olympic caliber athlete too. -
Well sounds like he was thinking correctly , just one of those things. I didnt even hit it, and it went four feet by, Johnson said. I was trying to make it but die it in the hole. I didnt want it to go by the hole much because as everyone knows, these greens, theyre fine, but you know, they do bounce. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/06/22/sports/golf/dustin-johnsons-dream-turns-real-on-no-18-then-nightmare-sets-in.html?referrer=

And just because one perceives hypocrisy in public figures is no justification to continue to support destructive policies be they gun laws, carbon emissions, etc

his very own post not good enough? -
The first putt was too bold. Wiser strategy would have been to leave a gimme if it didn't go in, and secure at least a playoff. Maybe he got too caught up in wanting to close it with his family stationed behind the green. Speaking of which, something tells me be won't stay down long with this waiting for him at home

Saints Gallete fighting on video

This article says the woman's case that galette beat her was dropped twice. I can see why because based on the video she and the man in blue trunks were the aggressors. It looks more like an instance of the accusor going after the guy because she thinks he has money. http://nypost.com/2015/06/21/video-surfaces-of-brawling-nfler-hitting-woman-with-belt/ -

That's right, you ascribe motive to groups or individuals you don't like, without sources, and in total contradiction to what they've actually said. -

Here's one example of your hallucinations: you claim I have "a desire to ..... perpetrate acts of violence against others in the name of Islam" with no source, while ignoring for example a thread I started exposing Saudi support for terror in the region, and questioning why we treat them as an ally http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/177372-closer-look-at-our-saudi-allies/ -

Actually you're the scariest person on the board. You routinely ascribe imaginery motive to people or groups you don't like to justify hostility against them, you hate the police, and you have an extreme attachment to guns -
No matter it was great theatre...and I guess great theatre has both tragedy and triumph, which it did. That spieth ... even given his stumbles and temper....just has that "It factor" about him. British open will be interesting and this is one time the US Open course will be good preparation for it

I think the current environment of "guilt until proven innocent" and the extreme penalties applied in a lot of cases, encourages NFL athletes in particular to be evasive and their lawyers obstructive regardless of their degree of guilt. Not to mention the loss of wages in relatively short careers as another strong incentive -

I watched again and from the looks of it galette was not the aggresor and was acting in his right of self defense. In the beginning hes back peddling as a guy in blue trunks is throwing punches. Then a woman goes after him too. He's responding with minimal force only using a belt to protect himself. Then he tries to vacate the scene and a mob follows him. Then it looks like the aggressor in blue shorts pins a woman down and atrempts to beat her, at which point galletee intervenes to prevent it. -

So you really think it would have been enough to arrest and medicate him based on comments his friend alleged made? And if the threshold were that low how many others would have to be arrested ? And the guy in California shot the college kids? Or the killer at theatre in Colorado? They'd been arrested and medicated in time? What were the standards in those cases that would have allowed for this? Who gets to make and enforce them? How about someone who's stupid, easily frustrated, has an attachment to guns, and an avatar of a infant with a bloody knife ought to be pre-emptively incarcerated too?
