What should the Bills do at #8?
truth on hold replied to Solomon Grundy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OTOH he is a YAC machine. Appears to have good hands too. Also a dangerous kick returner. -
"Better #'s" is too general a test. Would he be a winning qb? A qb that takes his team to playoffs ? Take his team to a coin toss of getting to super bowl ? No, no I don't believe fitz would. Look at the highlights from smith: I see a guy with a much better arm, better mechanics, better footwork, can run a more up tempo offense, faster when he takes off running , and more presence on the field https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXX9mJAW--Q&feature=youtube_gdata_player One thing on smith id like to see a stronger arm down field , but still its better than fitz. But the list of flawless QBs is extremely small. At end of day, The takeaway about SF defense, harbaugh with QBs and smith, should be a focus on building a dominant defense, a coach that can get the best out of QBs, and a QB that can win with the setup. Smith has shown he can, and IMO its obvious his skills are superior to fitz, who IMO wouldn't be sucessful on the 9ers.

Just begs the questions though who's going to throw the ball to them? -
Looks like his bloated contract keeps him in jets green another year ...... New Jets general manager John Idzik basically confirmed what everyone suspected this morning – quarterback Mark Sanchez will most likely remain a Jet in 2013. "I feel comfortable with Mark being a Jet," Idzik said on WFAN. "I told him we're going to add competition and everyone should be up for it. It's going to make Mark, and everybody else, better." The Jets were expected to hold onto Sanchez despite his disappointing 2012 season because of his contract. He has a $12.8 million salary cap number that makes him impossible to trade and if they release him it's even worse. http://m.nypost.com/f/mobile/blogs/jetsblog/new_gm_dzik_comfortable_with_sanchez_AQFKbryZtOwQSlFxiuOSMP

He's outperformed Brady in consecutive AFC championship games. He is acknowledged to have one of the very strongest arms in the NFL. He's 7-8 years younger than Brady and manning. The future is a lot more about flacco than the fading icons

Ravens can franchise him for a lot less ... average of top 10 QB salaries for 2012 is no where near that http://www.spotrac.com/top-salaries/nfl/quarterback/

Bill Polian Ruined my Day!

Yeah I know it was just a quick snapshot look. BTW of the 7 guys you identified why its not good, all but Anderson in their prime would be a huge upgrade over what we have and signifiicantly brighten our prospects. -

I generally agree with his assessment of the talent out there , but it sounds like he's being too definitive. Flynn may have a better arm than he thinks and west coast offense is good anyway. Didn't hurt Montana and Steve young! So if he's Jeff Garcia that's a huge upgrade for us. Also who really knows what alex smith's ceiling is. there's every reason to believe 9ers would still be going to super bowl of he stayed at qb. As for draft if you look historically in most cases you will find at least 1 or 2 pro bowlers http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?type=position Although I can see bills reaching this year and pulling the trigger on a guy they shouldnt have in rd 1 or 2, in a desperate attempt to try and make up for mistakes of the past. Be just our luck (bad) too theyre determined to go qb hunting in a bad year. -
That is the one lingering aspect of this. If he were involved in the fighting I dont think he did the actual stabbing, but he may have held a guy while the other guy stabbed him. Ray Ray's excuse is that he "never fights". I can see that too, hes never really been one to let his high intensity emotions erupt much on the field into fighting and shoving matches ala a Joey Porter or Romanowski type. But then again his driver chanced his testimony on this ..... ugh. It lingers, but Im willing to move on with this aspect noted

I posted the I posted the article because I never really followed the story, and with all the attention Ray Ray is getting this week figured it was worth a look. Just happened to find it provided a good summary and key details. My own take is that he was an accomplice in the sense of trying to destroy evidence and craft a cover up story of sorts, mostly because as a burgeoning star athlete he panicked and made a bad choice. But he didnt actually stab anyone. He should have come clean from the start. But he did serve a little time and paid pretty substantial price financially (criminal and civil). Probably time for the most part to move on from this, but not entirely either ... it's part of the overall picture on him, good and the bad.

Theres no "authority" on a subjective topic like "Best Super Bowl", that goes without saying. Nearly everyone else realized that and viewed it as a discussion piece to express their own views. That you and a couple others see red whenever someone references Bleacher report IS YOUR PROBLEM. Is everyone supposed to keep track of your media preferences to spare his highness the trouble of simply bypassing the thread? The OP posted an article he thought would be noteworthy to Bills fans, and it was. The title was very self explanatory. If you want further embellishment, click the damn link (or his highness can have one of his servants do it for him). To B word out the innocent OP and make it about something else with a series of OT posts is where courtesy is clearly lacking. To the point I won't be engaging any further in your obnoxious OT rant. Vincec, thanks again for the link.

Deadspin: Manti Te’o’s Dead Girlfriend Is A Hoax
truth on hold replied to Punch's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Manti Te’o hoaxer Ronaiah Tuiasosopo didn’t fake the voice of the Notre Dame grid star’s make-believe girlfriend, experts said yesterday. “These are definitely women,” said Paul Ginsberg, one of four audio experts asked by “Good Morning America” to review phone messages Te’o has said are from fake girlfriend “Lennay Kekua.” “It’s the frequency range; it’s the intonation,” said Ginsberg, who agreed with colleagues that the voice on the tapes was female. “I don’t believe that a male could simulate that.” http://m.nypost.com/p/news/national/experts_agree_it_girl_vO2Bz8WYYUxBlStUJdbbeP -
Neat. In my own mind I had a few others above it, even as a bills fan. But the argument made is a good one ... It was an epic struggle of contrasting styles right from the start. Very intense and never a lapse of interest. That giants drive at end of first half was painful. And i wish #1 of all time ended with the more appropriate sounding ending like the kicker making a long one for the win !

If this story in NY Post saying he wants Mario Williams money is true, he and jets may just end up stuck with each other another year. Gotta be nuts to touch this guy http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets/revis_wants_to_run_dash_N7JtAAmUowI7BwNng58MAP

Dr Phil in on the act. Already recorded interview with Ronaiah will air next week http://m.tmz.com/?adid=hero5#Article/2013/01/25/ronaiah-tuiasosopo-dr-phil-interview -
I agree the trend seems positive, but how you can totally dismiss it and not consider it a material risk factor escapes me. Here's a good article on the subject http://tompelissero.com/pg_acl.html On one hand it sounds promising ..... Recent research shows NFL players are coming back from ACL reconstruction at a higher rate than ever. Surgical advances, more experienced physicians and improved rehabilitation techniques mean veterans such as Barnett -- and teammates Mark Tauscher and Will Blackmon, who also have torn ACLs in the past year -- more likely than not will play again, with no significant impact on their longevity. On the other there's this .... A 2006 study co-authored by Sennett examined the statistical performance of 31 running backs and receivers who sustained 33 ACL injuries between 1998 and 2002. Most of the players returned to action within nine to 12 months; only 21 percent never played in another regular-season game. But when compared to a control group of 146 players set up to account for football-specific variables such as team success and scheme changes, the performance of the players who had ACL reconstructions went from above average in the three years before surgery to below average in the three years after. Researchers found the average drop in power rating -- a weighted sum of yards and touchdowns -- fell by roughly one-third post-injury. "They don't always come back," Sennett said, "but when they do come back, they actually come back less than they were beforehand." And that .... There also is a mental hurdle players must overcome. For Barnett, it was learning to ignore the crackling and believe his knee was fine. For skill-position players, such as quarterbacks, it's believing they can take a hit without getting reinjured. Cincinnati quarterback Carson Palmer, who tore multiple knee ligaments on a low hit in a January 2006 playoff game, told the Los Angeles Times this summer that "still to this day, I'm trying to get over this mental block. "It's just something where you've got to go out on a limb and just say, 'I'm going to step through every throw.' Because what happens is, the ball starts sailing on you, balls start dying, interceptions happen, tipped balls happen and your completion percentage drastically goes down." Are you saying you're indifferent to player A vs B, both out of football for a year and everything else being equal except Player A is returning from ACL and B isn't?
