windows 8- anyone care to comment on it?
truth on hold replied to Pete's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Never said theyre going in 1-3, or any time for that matter. But I see their business eroding with decline of PC OS influence. As for Xbox, yes its makes money, but its overall contribution to MS bottom line is small. What I think happens is they enter into strategic mergers with some also-ran franchises like Yahoo (subsribers, search engine) or HP (hardware). -

Bud-man is just doing his job, networking with other GMs. I have no problem with this. if it does hurt anyone its Fitzpatrick because now you have the inside scoop from his former GM that he's only backup material while he's a FA trying to find a starting position somewhere else. -

Whole world is going more mobile, cloud-based and SaaS. I just read the #1 selling laptop on Amazon is the Google Chromebook. Which doesn't run Windows -
If flacco wanted boldin to stay he could have taken a pay cut for a few years himself, instead of "settling" for the richest contract in NFL history. I have no problem with guys getting the most for themselves, but don't turn around and biatch your team out because your contract necessitates cutting corners somewhere else

I wonder if they'll recovery this time, I really do with the decline of the PC. Their CEO does not strike me as a visionary either, quite the opposite -
All their actions are driven by the salary cap and theyre very predictable. Some other non-surprises will be trading revis because they can, keeping Sanchez and giving him a chance at starter because they can't trade him

Ranking Bills Last 3 Starting QBs

Holcomb and Fitz had similar games, I agree. Once defenses figured out they couldn't go deep and defended short routes and screens more, they were both goners. One thing you kind of the touched on is how each new QB was an attempt to address the weakness of the former one: Losman with the strong arm over Holcomb Edwards with the intelligence and full field reads losman didn't make Fitz with the toughness to take a hit if meant making a completion, which Edwards wouldn't do In each case perhaps they bypassed a better guy by focusing on that one aspect. Fitz arm - both accuracy and strength - is his perceived weakness. If history is any guide we will start and/or draft the guy with the best arm, overlook his other shortcomings, and perhaps bypass a better player. -

It's a too little, too late strategy they were forced into and it's not working. 5 years ago when it would have been a smart move, they were saying this about smart phones: -

ZDNet Five reasons why Windows 8 has failed Summary: The numbers are in and they don't lie. Windows 8 market adoption numbers are well behind Microsoft's greatest previous operating system failure, Vista. "And Windows 8? Like Vista before it, Microsoft will re-release an older version of Windows, Windows 7 this time instead of XP, and start talking about wonderful Windows Blue, the next version of Windows, will be." http://www.zdnet.com/five-reasons-why-windows-8-has-failed-7000012104/ -

With the growing injury concern on RG3 I'm afraid that would be their asking price for last year's 3rd round pick -

Lindell shoudlnt be a surprise cut, more like surprise if doesn't get cut. Smith I think they keep from the jets connection, and also as bad as our qb situation is he adds another option. Anderson wont get cut because too much guaranteed money and cap hit for yr2. I didn't like his signing last year, but now that he's here have to give him another year. -

Peer pressure doesnt mean a hill of beans to me, so i dont care what the "consensus" thinks. Most of my best investments have been made under the cloud of everyone telling me I was crazy. The "numbers" in favor of Fitz are easily explained going from a defensive-minded, conservative, and offensively-inept HC like Jauron to the mirror opposite in Gailey. -
I think in the US at least selling ones organs is illegal. If I remember correctly this came up when people were listing their kidneys on EBay. Could be wrong and not interested enough to look it up

There can be varying degrees of "guys who ultimately can't get it done", thats the basis of this thread. It was your contention of a "sizemic gap between Fitzpatrick and Losman/Edwards" I take issue with. if youre talking sizemic gap between Fitz and another QB in the NFL, it would be a guy better than him like a Brady or Brees -

None of them proved to be capable NFL starters. Which seriously weakens your contention there was some massive difference between Fitz and the others. They're all lumped into the "had enough starts and couldn't get it done" category. -

Trentative had the best chance of being the most complete qb of the 3; better brain than JP, better arm than Fitz. Sure looked the part in this game against jags. Nice job of making good and quick decisions; looking off DBs; mixing up short, medium and long passes. That end zone corner route to hardy in particular, that's what makes an NFL qb, and something I've never seen out of Fitz. -
Big fast receivers in the draft

From what little I've seen of these players, I think swope can be a factor on the next level -
In alphabetical order: Edwards, Fitzpatrick, Losman (not including Holcomb because he was never considered a serious starter). I rank them: 1) Edwards: smart in the sense of not a lot of dumb mistakes, pretty good arm I think (not sure since he didn't throw deep very often); weakness seemed to be declining confidence and lack of leadership ability. 2) Losman: had the physical tools, but mentally just was not there to be a real winner at this level. 3) Fitzpatrick: academically smart which didn't always translate on the field (can be erratic), and worst arm of the three (strength and accuracy). But tough as nails, would hang in there and take the big hit if it meant getting it to the best option. Also uncanny knack for drawing out talent of unheralded receivers like Stevie Johnson and Chandler.

Steven Jackson - Bills need another RB
truth on hold replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't you think if they really thought that much of him they'd find a way to keep him? I think the kind words are because they think he's a classy guy as you say and owed some respect for past services. But their true measure of value - interest - they're letting him go without effort to keep him. Also rams are an improving franchise and with fishcher in his 2nd they'll have a chance at playoffs. The list of "contenders" ahead of them is not so long. -

The problem is its a running back by committee league these days given the emphasis on passing and defensive sophistication where good ones can shut down one dimensional offenses. Problem with a back like SJ is that you feel obligated to give it to him 25-30x / game, even if it's not working. No way pats sign up for that, being the ultimate RB by committee team. League realities and a potential for rapid decline given age and wear, will keep smart GMs from paying top dollar. I'd be surprised if he gets a better deal than he's leaving on the table; rams are the smart one here IMO -
You can spin it that way and I know you're being sarcastic, but at its core what you wrote is true. The media sometimes just puts a halo on a guy and doesn't give others their due. Bruce Smith had to do the same thing in the early 90's when the media (especially that blowhard madden) kept yapping about Reggie white, and paid almost no mind to Smith.

Well I find it refreshing someone is getting into revis face too, and shining a more critical light on his status. He was heavily hyped up by Ryan, he's quite pompous (matter of factly stating he's the best player on the team), and either holding out or threatening to hold out over his contract frequently.
