Gotta love that "only democracy" .... Human rights ad listing dead Gaza children barred from Israeli radio Pro-Palestinian human rights group B’Tselem is lodging an appeal to the top Israeli court, after its paid-for announcement – which was simply a list of killed Palestinian youths – was rejected by Israel’s media regulator for being too "political". "IBA (Israeli Broadcasting Authority) says broadcasting the children's names is politically controversial. But refusing to do so is in itself a far-reaching statement – it says the huge price being paid by civilians in Gaza, many of them children, must be censored," said a statement from B’Tselem. "Is it controversial that the children [aren't] alive? That they're children? That those are their names? These are facts that we wish to bring to the public's knowledge." http://rt.com/news/175364-gaza-children-ban-radio/

It Turns Out Hamas Didn’t Kidnap and Kill the 3 Israeli Teens After All When the bodies of three Israeli teenagers, kidnapped in the West Bank, were found late last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not mince words. "Hamas is responsible, and Hamas will pay," he said, initiating a campaign that eventually escalated into the present conflict in the region. But now, officials admit the kidnappings were not Hamas's handiwork after all. http://nymag.com/dai...d=twitter_nymag

Israel-Gaza conflict: 'We told you to evacuate the school,' says Israel. 'No you didn’t,' says UN Yusuf al-Shinwari had become increasingly anxious about the military strikes near the UN school where he and his family had taken refuge. He was hugely relieved when the call came to evacuate. But, before that could happen, the building was hit by shellfire, leaving five members of his family dead. The 13 year old boy is in hospital with serious leg injuries. He has lost his mother Felastin, 36, brothers Ali and Abid, aged 10 and 17, sister Mariam, 14, and aunt Fatima, 48. His 15 year old sister, Manor, had to have both her legs amputated and a cousin, Ikran, 23, has suffered severe head injuries. “We were all sitting together around a table in the playground outside, we wanted to leave as soon as possible; we were waiting for the buses. There were three, four explosions, I was thrown and fell. I heard about my brothers, sisters later,” he said. The Israelis also said that the UN had been provided with a window to carry out an evacuation. It said, in another tweet: “Last night, we told Red Cross to evacuate civilians from UNRWA’s shelter in Beit Hanoun btw 10am & 2pm. UNRWA & Red Cross got the message.” The reason this was not used, according to the military, was that “Hamas prevented civilians from evacuating the area during the window that we gave them.” This has been denied by the UN, the Red Cross and Hamas. http://www.independe...un-9629862.html

Open Letter to President Obama from Norwegian Doctor in Gaza "The last night was extreme. The “ground invasion” of Gaza resulted in scores and carloads with maimed, torn apart, bleeding, shivering, dying... All sorts of injured Palestinians, all ages, all civilians, all innocent. The heroes in the ambulances and in all of Gaza’s hospitals are working 12 to 24 hour shifts, grey from fatigue and inhuman workloads (without payment in Shifa for the last four months). They care, triage, try to understand the incomprehensible chaos of bodies, sizes, limbs, walking, not walking, breathing, not breathing, bleeding, not bleeding humans. Humans! Now, once more treated like animals by “the most moral army in the world” [sic!]. Mr Obama – do you have a heart? I invite you – spend one night – just one night – with us in Shifa. I am convinced, 100 per cent, it would change history. Nobody with a heart and power could ever walk away from a night in Shifa without being determined to end the slaughter of the Palestinian people. Please. Do what you can. This cannot continue." http://www.independe...al-9617586.html

ISIS Orders Female Mutilation
truth on hold replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
it looks like a predominantly African thing, and even in countries that arent predominantly Muslim like Ethiopa. No matter, it's disgusting anywhere. btw, ISIS denies ever ordering it.... Isis denies ordering that all girls in Mosul undergo FGM Doubts grow over UN report, seemingly reliant on year-old document from Syria thought to have been doctored http://www.theguardi...fgm-girls-mosul -
did you even read the article? he's calling for an election so people can decide on their government in that region; why isn't the "only democracy" Israel doing that? he's calling netanyahu's regime "fake" ... from any moral authority standpoint it is. And if an election were held in all the territories Israel controls ... direct or indirect, hed likey lose that election too. And he's not intending to get rid of Jews "Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday called for a referendum canvassing the Arabs and Jews that live in Israel in order to end the "Zionist state" "There are logical and practical means to this end, which is for people who live and belong there to pick the government of their choice through a referendum. That would be the end of a usurping fake regime," Khamenei made clear for the first time that he was talking about the dismantling of the state of Israel, not the death of Jews."

I already answered above, since you can't understand my posts (no matter how clear), here's a Washington Post Columnist: Israel is acting as if it is free of moral responsibilities. When people decide they must leave their homes, they can do so. But where are these evacuees supposed to go? To the nearest school or hospital? Not if these, too, are considered legitimate targets by the Israeli Defense Forces. Gazans cannot flee across the closed border with Egypt. They obviously do not have the option of escaping into Israel or sailing away across the Mediterranean Sea. Gaza’s 1.8 million people are packed into an enclave measuring 139 square miles — an area and population roughly the size of Philadelphia. http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/eugene-robinson-israel-is-acting-as-if-it-is-free-of-moral-responsibilities/2014/07/24/6b76763c-1372-11e4-9285-4243a40ddc97_story.html

The "we told them to evacuate" is just a big "cover your ass" move by the Israelis. Gazans have repeatedly emphasized they have no where to go, Israelis are shelling everywhere... schools, mosques, kids on beaches, hospitals, etc etc. Case in point: these people were slaughtered trying to leave the building. "Kamel al-Kafarne, who was in the school, said people were boarding buses when three tank shells hit. "We were about to get out of the school, then they hit the school. They kept on shelling it," he said.

There's no humanity left in the Israelis at this point, there truly isn't .... Israeli fire hits compound housing U.N. school in Gaza Strip, killing at least 15 and injuring dozens GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — A U.N. school in Gaza crowded with hundreds of Palestinians seeking refuge from fierce fighting came under fire Thursday, killing at least 15 civilians and leaving a sad tableau of blood-spattered pillows, blankets and children's clothing scattered in the courtyard. http://m.nydailynews.com/news/world/israeli-fire-hits-compound-housing-u-n-school-gaza-strip-killing-15-article-1.1878607

ISIS Orders Female Mutilation
truth on hold replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
What percent of the worlds nearly 1 billion Muslim women have been mutilated like this? Which predominantly Muslim countries have mandatory female mutilation? Why did we support conditions that gave rise to Isis in Syria? -
Unfortunately Israel has lead many palis to conclude that a pacifist approach yields no good results. The west bank is run by the pacifist Abbas and there's been nothing but continuous settlement expansion, discrimination, settler violence, and murders committed by IDF. In Gaza Hamas only came to power in 06 and their resistance policy was seen as the reason for Israels withdrawal, PLO was seen as ineffective because Gaza being much smaller than west bank had been suffering even greater hardship under occupation.

Fifty-one Israelis who served in the Israel Defense Forces, some of them still in reserve units, published an open letter Wednesday in the Washington Post supporting refusal to perform military service. “We were soldiers in a wide variety of units and positions in the Israeli military — a fact we now regret, because, in our service, we found that troops who operate in the occupied territories aren’t the only ones enforcing the mechanisms of control over Palestinian lives,” they wrote. “In truth, the entire military is implicated. For that reason, we now refuse to participate in our reserve duties, and we support all those who resist being called to service.” “The Palestinian residents of the West Bank and Gaza Strip are deprived of civil rights and human rights. They live under a different legal system from their Jewish neighbors. This is not exclusively the fault of soldiers who operate in these territories. Those troops are, therefore, not the only ones obligated to refuse. Many of us served in logistical and bureaucratic support roles; there, we found that the entire military helps implement the oppression of the Palestinians,” the letter read. http://www.haaretz.com/mobile/1.606871?v=6666D44A785F1B885BD1AF001BE88E4B

How shameful is this? "On Wednesday, the United Nations Human Rights Council voted to authorize a commission of inquiry into alleged war crimes in Gaza. (The United States was the sole “no” vote.)" http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/24/world/middleeast/as-much-of-the-world-frowns-on-israel-americans-hold-out-support.html Such is the power of the lobby we can't even support an inquiry ... the only f^#%ing country votes "no". Disgrace ...

IDF posted this image in response to member of British Parliament saying Israel should stop Gaza invasion. So "what would you do" if this were happening in London? Fly into Heathrow?

They can't have it both ways. They can't on one hand, say the rockets are a grave threat to their major cities, constantly advertise the numbers fired, say they're continuing to be fired (heck even display drawings), rockets are such a threat theyre the main justification for devestating gaza. While on the other hand say the airport is totally safe, especially when rockets have landed in the vicinity.

Harvard Professor Stephen Walt: "AIPAC Is the Only Explanation for America's Morally Bankrupt Israel Policy" The official name for Israel's latest assault on Gaza is "Operation Protective Edge." A better name would be "Operation Déjà Vu." As it has on several prior occasions, Israel is using weapons provided by U.S. taxpayers to bombard the captive and impoverished Palestinians in Gaza, where the death toll now exceeds 500. As usual, the U.S. government is siding with Israel, even though most American leaders understand Israel instigated the latest round of violence, is not acting with restraint, and that its actions make Washington look callous and hypocritical in the eyes of most of the world. This Orwellian situation is eloquent testimony to the continued political clout of AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) and the other hardline elements of the Israel lobby. There is no other plausible explanation for the supine behavior of the U.S. Congress--including some of its most "progressive" members--or the shallow hypocrisy of the Obama administration, especially those officials known for their purported commitment to human rights. The immediate cause of this latest one-sided bloodletting was the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli hikers in the occupied West Bank, followed shortly thereafter by the kidnapping and fatal burning of a Palestinian teenager by several Israelis. According to J.J. Goldberg's reporting in the Jewish newspaper Forward, the Netanyahu government blamed Hamas for the kidnappings without evidence and pretended the kidnapped Israelis were still alive for several weeks, even though there was evidence indicating the victims were already dead. It perpetrated this deception in order to whip up anti-Arab sentiment and make it easier to justify punitive operations in the West Bank and Gaza. http://www.huffingto...l?utm_hp_ref=tw
