  1. Obviously it's a varied thing and needs to be treated on a case-by-case basis. if someone has a terminal illness or chronic unbearable pain, for example, and can only be kept alive with heavy drugs, and they determine they want off the medication because they dont want to live this way and let nature take it's course, I can accept that. (i was btw a supporter of Kevorkian). But in some emotional cases when someone is using it to get attention or harm someone else, especially when they have others depending on them, then yes I think it's a selfish act. Depression is the middling scenario gray area ... if someone is depressed and alone and decides theyd rather off themselves, then so be it. But what about when they have a new wife and 3 offspring? Even if theyre in emotional pain, isn't it worth suffering thru it for their sake?
  2. Me too, and I figure its somewhat sacrireligious to mention given his popularity, but when I read he has a relatively new wife and 3 kids (from previous marriages), can't help but think there's an element of selfishness for leaving them like that.
  3. ROBIN WILLIAMS 'SELFISH' FOR COMMITTING SUICIDE Says Todd Bridges Robin Williams' death had been reported for just minutes, when "Different Strokes" star Todd Bridges bashed Williams for committing suicide ... calling it "a very selfish act." Bridges moaned he's had a hard time too but didn't take what he implies is the easy way out: "You don't think that my life has been hell and I've had so many ups and downs now. If I did that what am i showing my children that when it gets tough that's the way out No you gotta buckle down ask God to help you. That's when prayer really comes into effect." http://m.tmz.com/#Article/2014/08/11/robin-williams-suicide-dead-todd-bridges-twitter-selfish
  4. Wonder if this had something to do with it "In a 2013 interview with Parade magazine, Williams said his divorce from his second wife, Marsha Garces, left him with financial troubles that led him to sell his ranch in Napa and forced him back into TV because he needed the work." http://heavy.com/entertainment/2014/08/rip-robin-williams-dead-death-dies/
  5. Is ISIS An Existential Threat? by Patrick J. Buchanan, August 12, 2014 Is Sen. Graham right that an “existential threat” is at hand? Is our very existence as a nation in peril? Graham says no force in the Mideast can stop ISIL without us. Is this true? Turkey, a nation of 76 million, has the second-largest army in NATO, equipped with U.S. weapons, and an air force ISIL does not have. If President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wanted to crush ISIS, he could seal his border to foreign fighters entering Syria and send the Turkish army to assist President Bashar Assad in annihilating ISIS in Syria. The jihadists of the Islamic State may be more motivated, but they are hugely outnumbered and outgunned in the region. The Syrian government and army, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Shia-dominated government of Iraq, a Shia Iran of 70 million, and the Kurds in Syria and Kurdistan are all anti-Islamic State and willing to fight. All are potential allies in a coalition to contain or crush ISIS, as is Vladimir Putin’s Russia, if U.S. diplomacy were not frozen in the 1980s. Only last August, McCain and Graham were attacking Obama for not enforcing his “red line” by bombing Syria’s army, the most successful anti-ISIL force in the field. Let Middle Easterners take the lead in fighting this newest Middle East war. http://www.theameric...e-the-warhawks/
  6. Happens when you substitute actual thought with netanyahu's spoon fed talking points
  7. that stuff is used in court against defendants all the time.
  8. That's why they can make the early call it was suicide A source close to the investigation told KTVU that Williams hanged himself. - See more at: http://www.whio.com/...h.4x0y5IiW.dpuf
  9. wow Have to wonder why someone who seems to have a lot left to live for does this. Maybe the comedy exterior was hiding a deeper problem all along
  10. This is a good interview of Obama by nytimes columnist Friedman. He's being a little more candid than usual, maybe because his final term is halfway over. Basically he confirms what I've been saying all along: his half pregnant neocon strategy is contradictory and a failure. On Libya: wasnt enough to depose ghadafi; failure was not following thru on the ground. Call this his biggest foreign policy regret Syria: not many sectarian rebels and anyway its a fantasy to think we can arm a bunch of career noncombatants like doctors and lawyers and train them to effectively fight a Russian backed military. But doesn't answer wtf we did just that!!!! Russia: they could invade eastern Ukraine at any time and about all we could do about it is have poor relations with them. Well then why the heck did we provoke a conflict there????!!!! Obama on the World President Obama Talks to Thomas L. Friedman About Iraq, Putin and Israel http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/08/09/opinion/president-obama-thomas-l-friedman-iraq-and-world-affairs.html?_r=0&referrer=
  11. That I think is the moat plausible explanation: someone poked at him so he wanted to send a message of his own, but not try to kill him. Still there is no self defense claim, this opens to door to manslaughter/negligent homicide case
  12. Personally I don't see the distinction as having any merit. He did say he got sucked underneath the tire, so he's acknowledging it was on the ground. Also the view of the area of greatest movement is blocked by ts' car, so maybe ward was airborne. Maybe "flung" would have been better word, but in any case that minor degree of articulation would not discredit him at all IMO
  13. He did move a considerable distance. 50 yards? I don't know but certainly not zero either. Also the video you're watching is in 2 dimensions. To guage the actual distance also need to know depth
  14. Unreal, Gaza cease fire means open fire on West Bank kids ... Palestinian, 11, Killed by Israeli Fire in West Bank: Medics "We don't know what they (the Israelis) were doing," said Yussef al-Anati, crying, his shirt soaked in blood after carrying his nephew to hospital. "Khalil was playing in front of the house, then we heard gunfire. The kid was screaming and fell down," he said. "He was shot in the back and the bullet exited through his stomach." http://www.ndtv.com/article/world/palestinian-11-killed-by-israeli-fire-in-west-bank-medics-573707
  15. clearly theres a burden on the plaintiff, no one is saying otherwise. TS' aggressive style and hot temper strikes me that it will hurt his defense, not help
  16. there is precedent for successful battery litigation in sports: Marty McSorley and Bill Romanowski are two that come to mind. Just because someone is in a sporting event does not absolve them from any wrongdoing
  17. again, you're trying to make the defense case. But how many people are convicted of vehicular homicide every year vs convicted of killing someone with a baseball? Im not going to even bother googling it. Also there are laws against DUI and not pitching while under influence; i.e. auto drivers have a much greater standard of care
  18. If Im the plaintiff and I think I have a chance to win the case or least get a settlement, why not? Also, cars and baseballs are not exactly comparable as an auto has much greater capacity to cause serious injury or death. I would think the standard of care is much greater for someone operating a motor vehicle
  19. Im not making a case for either side, just a projection that there will be a case (if not many). What you're doing is trying to make the defense case. My best guess is that there will at least be a civil case (criminal is harder to project because it's the DA's decision). And I think a civil case will be settled out of court for an undisclosed amount because the plaintiffs won't want to take the chance of losing given the vagaries, and stewart will want to put it behind him ASAP and save face by not admitting to anything or being found guilty.
  20. But that doesn't give someone the right to intentionally run someone else over. I'd imagine that is what this case -- and I do think there will be one - will boil down. Was it an accident in the normal course of events, or was there intent on Stewart's part to intentionally drive toward Ward. If there was intent, was it to get near and scare him or to run him over and cause bodily harm. If the former, then a manslaughter conviction, the latter could be murder. Stewart has an estimated net worth of $70 million, no doubt lawyers are all over the family to launch a wrongful death suit.
  21. Looks like it was that contraption on top of the car that hit ward in the head and killed him Tony Stewart Sprint Car Crash: Kevin Ward Jr Kill…: http://youtu.be/CtBH9FJ3LOU
  22. Its grotesque but on the other hand probably doesn't have the error rate of electric chair or chemical injection
  23. Hes racing again tonight which is weird , if I were in his shoes I'd be in no mental state to do this the day after
  24. Funny isn't it. The 3 "axis of evil" countries had nothing to do with 9/11. In fact Shi'ite Iran was a bitter rival of bin laden, and bin laden didn't like Saddam because although sunni was a secularist. Furthermore iran and iraq considered one another mortal enemies because of the war (in which we sponsored iraq aggression) whuch killed 1 million iranians. So the implication they were working together amongst themselves or along with bin laden was preposterous.
