I wouldn't call it bad luck as much as stupidity. Some of the guys they drafted or traded for weren't worth the draft pick. Others they pinned their hopes on were nothing more than career backups or established busts/flops.

Dumbass calls 911 because Subway screwed up his order

Awesome. Actually, it's not surprising. I've stopped in some sketchy-looking Subways on my long road trips from Orlando heading back up north. I'm pretty sure one in West Virginia or Tennessee (not sure which) had banjo music playing instead of a radio station. That made me look for a burger joint with a drive-thru window... -

Depends on which Byrd you get. Pre-All Star Break: 18 starts, 3-10, 5.47 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, .296 Opp BA Post-All Star Break: 4 starts, 4-0, 1.24, 1.10 WHIP, .231 Opp BA His splits home versus away haven't been pretty, either. Much better at home --half the ERA, Opp. BA down, WHIP down, nearly as many wins (3) eight home starts as he had in 14 away starts. -

Having Rodney Peete and Scott Mitchell at QB probably put a lot of pressure on the Lions' running game. -

Not trash talk, but Tribe dealt Paul Byrd to the Red Sox today for a PTBNL or cash. -

Supposedly WEWS broadcaster Gib Shanley's pneumonia was the result of a staph infection. -

They've had a few problems with Browns' players getting staph infections, so I'm sure they were overly cautious. LINK Jurevicius is the fifth known Browns player to suffer a staph infection since June 2005 and the sixth in the past four years. The others are center LeCharles Bentley, tight end Kellen Winslow, receiver Braylon Edwards and two former Browns -- safety Brian Russell and linebacker Ben Taylor. -
Dumbass calls 911 because Subway screwed up his order

I must be easy or just don't care. It's like talking to my 18-month-old - I can try to tell them until I'm blue in the face, but you might as well be talking to the wall - they ain't gonna listen. That's why, with 6 locations within a 10-minute drive of my home, there's only one that I can hope will do a decent job. If there's one good thing about Subway, it's the fact that you should be able to see if they try to add any "extra sauce" after you complain. -

I'm not saying you don't have good ones there, but it's silly to assume that your experiences are similar to the majority of the 2,000 Subway franchises. There are some good Subways, some average ones and some awful ones. I don't know about the Jacksonville one from this story, but I have been in Subways where you could be pointing a gun at the artist and they still wouldn't care. Any time minimum-wage high school kids and non-native speakers are manning the counters there are going to be problems. -

You really haven't been in a Subway in a long time, have you? A lot of them are getting like any other fast-food restaurant -- slap the food together and get the customer out of the door as quickly as possible, service be damned. -
While the "ghetto ball" term is questionable I don't think it's out of line to debate that "street ball" is not as effective as team basketball. From my own experience I think it's somewhat true. I used to help my uncle and cousin run tryouts for a YMCA travel team, and during those tryouts we saw a lot of very talented guys who played the 1-on-1 street ball style and we saw a lot of guys who played structured, fundamental basketball (from playing on travel teams, high school teams, etc..) 99% of the time the street ball guys couldn't hang with the lesser-talented guys who moved the ball around, who worked to open shots for themselves and teammates, etc. I realize that this is just a small example but I found it amazing when I saw it. I do agree with your previous assessment of Team USA's win over China, but while they did play a strong team game for the most part, there were still flashes of the NBA isolation style here and there. But I think this team (from what I've seen so far) is doing a better job of getting away from the NBA style and playing the FIBA style than previous USA teams have, and much better than the '04 disaster.

Someone please explain the Roscoe Parrish lovefest
Bmwolf21 replied to Adam's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Depending on the situation it's still an acceptable risk, IMO. It might be a low percentage play (by your definition) but again, it's a risk I'll take. There is absolutely no correlation between Roscoe trying to bust a big play and a 4-12 record. -

Then you don't want a playmaker, you want a possession receiver. If you want someone to catch the ball, get his yards and be satisfied with what he's already gained, then you put Josh Reed on the field and throw to him. Personally, I'd rather see Roscoe get the chance to showcase his speed, acceleration and shiftiness and try to make something happen rather than take what the defense dictates. If that means gambling five yards downfield after a catch, then so be it. -

A WR giving up 5 yards trying to break a big one is a lot different than an RB dancing in the backfield. And at Roscoe's size, I'd rather see him get tripped up trying to break the big one than see him get blasted over five measly yards. -

Have you talked to some of the rocket scientists making sandwiches at Subway? Of the three locations near my home, two are foreign-owned and most of the workers either don't understand or don't care what you're saying, and do whatever the eff they want. At the other one you have the pissed-off middle-aged workers who just want to get you out of there so fast that they don't care what your sub looks like. -
LeBron, not Kobe. And don't forget, Bron is only 23 right now - he could go to Europe for two years, rack up $100M in salary, expand his global image and throw another $100M in his bank through endorsements, and come back to the NBA before he turns 27.

Farve has become a total drama queen

Breaking news on E$PN's front page - Favre has to run a penalty lap for fumbling a snap. No, seriously. And thanks to the wonders of the Interwebs (and ESPN's need to cram Favre down our throats) you can even watch Favre's penalty lap. -

Thanks for the dates. I've been reading a lot of complaints from NFL head coaches about the lower number of players in camp this year (because of the loss of the NFLE exemptions that gave teams an average of six extra camp players) saying that it's forcing them to use more starters and reserves longer than they want to, risking injuries and guys wearing down. -
In a perfect world the P*ts would have been seriously punished, not slapped on the wrist by Goodell, and would not have even made the Super Bowl.

I agree. I voted click, but I could handle the hover if it was limited to less than 4 dropdown items. -
Take it FWIW, but if Bron wants to be the first billionaire athlete he needs to get his butt in gear. Forbes estimates Tiger will hit the billion-dollar mark in career earnings in 2010. Bron would have to catch and pass him between 2010 and 2011, when Tiger is projected to have a net worth of over $1 billion.
