If Peters doesn't show
Bmwolf21 replied to Not the real Gale Gilbert's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When it comes to injuries and recuperation time I wouldn't use Grant Hill as an example of anything. Great guy to be sure, but he stole almost $100M from the Magic. -
Duke lacrosse accuser gets book deal
Bmwolf21 replied to BillsFanNC's topic in Off the Wall Archives
See, kids? You can lie, falsely accuse three people of rape and assault, damage their reputation in the national media, harm any potential progress to race relations, and still get paid. It's the American Dream. -
If Peters doesn't show
Bmwolf21 replied to Not the real Gale Gilbert's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt it. The NFLPA would squawk, but it wouldn't matter. The Bills aren't keeping him from playing, he's voluntarily staying home. Peters is under contract to the Bills and is their asset for at least three years. He reports or he doesn't play. I'd be just as pissed if they bowed to his demands by trading him somewhere else who will renegotiate with him. It would set the same dangerous precedent as caving in to his demands. -
Congrats to the US women's soccer team

And redeemed Hope Solo in the process. Maybe if Ryan would have left her in the lineup against Brazil they would have won the World Cup last year. -
Big Shocker: China cheating in gymnastics
Bmwolf21 replied to justnzane's topic in Off the Wall Archives
That didn't take long: LINK So to recap - the governing bodies (IOC/FIG) are going to take the word of a country who may have cheated, using government-issued official documents provided by the alleged cheaters as proof they did not cheat. Sounds like a very thorough investigation. -
Big Shocker: China cheating in gymnastics
Bmwolf21 replied to justnzane's topic in Off the Wall Archives
At least the IOC is trying to clean up their public image a little: LINK IOC investigating whether gymnasts old enough to compete BEIJING -- The International Olympic Committee said Friday it had asked gymnastics officials to investigate whether the Chinese women's gymnastics team that won the gold medal had underage athletes, saying "more information has come to light." "We've asked the gymnastics federation to look into it further," IOC spokeswoman Giselle Davies said. "If there is a question mark and we have a concern, which we do, we ask the governing body of any sport to look into it." Online records and media reports suggest Chinese gymnast He Kexin may be as young as 14. The IOC, which also asked the Chinese gymnastics federation to investigate, would not give details on what new information prompted it to act now, three days after the gymnastics competition ended. ----- I'm not betting the farm on the gymnastics federation doing a damn thing, but at least someone is acknowledging that there are, at the very least, questions about the age of the Chinese gymnasts. -

Great post on both counts. -
I was a JP guy, and am not totally sold on Trent yet. But I am a fan of the Bills, not a particular QB, so at this point I just want SOMEONE to grab the QB position and help get this team in the playoffs. All that being said, I am so tired of this JP vs Trent crap that I almost wouldn't mind if they dumped them both and brought in someone else.

Oowww wooo woooo! Ghost in the Whitehouse?!

I've seen a lot of stuff about that from the various Kennedy assassination shows and articles. LINK 1 LINK 2 -
Amen on all counts.

On a side note, I am disgusted that softball and baseball are gone from the next two Olympics but crap like "rhythmic gymnastics" is still in there.

Thanks for the lesson, but I've been around enough NCAA-level softball to know that. The US took a 0.00 ERA into the GM game and gave up three runs on five hits, and made two uncharacteristic errors. They also couldn't manage a run after loading the bases with one out in the sixth. Those Japanese players who are the best in their country lost twice to the US in this Olympics. If it truly was just a pitchers' duel where Yukiko Ueno was simply better on this night than Cat was, then I'd agree that it was "Japanese Pitcher hurls gem in biggest game of her career." But the US made too many mistakes and gave Japan too many openings to win a game in which they were a good, but should have been an inferior team.

How is it not a choke for a team that won 22 straight, outscored opponents 51-1 in the last Olympics and beat Japan 4-1 and 7-0 in their last two meetings?
-
LINK BEIJING (AP) -- Losing for the first time since 2000, the U.S. softball team was denied its fourth straight gold medal, falling 3-1 to Japan on Thursday as the sport bowed out of the Olympics for at least eight years -- and maybe for good. Yukiko Ueno, Japan's remarkably resilient right-hander, shut down the Americans and handed them their first loss since Sept. 21, 2000, at the Sydney Games. The U.S. had won 22 straight since then, with most of the victories coming by outrageously lopsided scores. Another gold was as good as around the Americans' necks. Instead, they walked off Fengtai Field with their heads bowed in disbelief. The U.S. team never led and made two uncharacteristic errors in the seventh inning to help the Japanese add an important insurance run -- one they didn't even need.

Hurricane Fay likely to hit SW FL on Tuesday
Bmwolf21 replied to LongLiveRalph's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The early tracks look eerily similar to Hurricane Charley, which hit just south of Tampa and roared across the state, hitting Orlando and exiting into the Atlantic near Daytona Beach. The first hurricane my wife and I experienced. Very intense. Hope no TSW'ers are in the path, and if so, good luck and Godspeed. -
Thanks to DonInBuffalo: http://www.draftinsiders.com/node/33 August 26 - 75 players (Tuesday after 3rd preseason game) August 30 - 53 players (Saturday after final preseason game)

I don't know what coverage they were in -- whether they were in a man with two-deep help or a straight zone -- but Tasker/Bentley's comments after the replay made it sound like the fault was was more with Wilson taking too long to get over and support deep.

NFL Relocation fee would be $600-900 million
Bmwolf21 replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
NHL revenues have gone up every year since the lockout - approx. $2.1 billion in 05-06, $2.2B in 06-07, and 2.56B in 07-08. Obviously that pales in comparison to the NFL and MLB, but I wouldn't disagree with Pyrite - right now they are making it work. -
Olympic Wrestling: the new controversial event
Bmwolf21 replied to justnzane's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Nice to see the IOC has its priorities straight: The International Olympic Committee says Ara Abrahamian has been kicked out of the Beijing Olympics for violating the spirit of fair play during the medal ceremony. Abrahamian walked off the medals podium and dropped the medal on the mat after taking third in the Greco-Roman 84-kilogram division Thursday. He became incensed when a disputed penalty call decided his semifinal match against Italian Andrea Minguzzi, who went on to win the gold medal. The IOC executive board ruled Saturday the wrestler's action amounted to a political demonstration and a mark of disrespect to his fellow athletes. LINK ---- So no investigation into the controversy in his match, but he gets kicked out and loses the medal he didn't want for actions the IOC says amounts to a political demonstration when he protested the screwup... -
Agreed. I haven't seen a better replay angle, but from the way Youboty was scrambling to catch up I think there was some sort of miscommunication or blown coverage between him and Wilson on that play.

Why would a Wookiee, an eight-foot tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of two-foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! Look at me. I'm a lawyer defending a major record company, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation, [approaches and softens] does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.
