  1. "We've been together over 10, but we've been married for two years. He was a bachelor all his life. He was a wonderful man, never drank, never smoked and he was a vegetarian for almost 60 years." Aside from the obligatory "why would you want to live to 81 if you're not going to drink, smoke or eat meat" comment it's obvious it must have been the steroids. I mean 81-year-olds don't just drop dead of massive heart attacks.
  2. IIRC they went through the streets and told them leave, or you're on your own. No Superdome, no shelter of last resort this time. Sounds like people got the message, which is good to hear. I was thinking the same thing. When Cantore shows up it's time to get out of Dodge.
  3. EVERETT, Mass. -- Pro wrestling pioneer Walter "Killer" Kowalski died early Saturday from the effects of a massive heart attack. He was 81. Kowalski died at Whidden Hospital in Everett, 12 days after his family decided to take him off life support. He had been in critical condition in the hospital since his heart attack on Aug. 8, wife Theresa Kowalski said. "I was right beside him. I put my hand on his chest, I felt his breathing slow down and his heart beat stop," she said. "The doctor said he was brain dead ... I was waiting, hoping somebody could do something. ---------- LINK
  4. As requested: God Bless.
  5. If he did that I would have no problem with the Bills going after his signing bonus. (Ducking because I know Mr. Parker Mickey will be along to lecture me about how my opinion is wrong and how his client favorite offensive lineman is just "takin' care of business" right now.)
  6. Clemson = always a tease. No surprise they crapped the bed against 'Bama. When it comes time to save Tommy Bowden's job they play like their hair is on fire, but the rest of the time it's inconsistent, mistake-filled football guided by coaches who seem overmatched and make strange calls.
  7. Can't rule out Jacksonville either.
  8. In April, Roski listed the New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers as teams that might move to the L.A. area and his stadium. Oh, the Raiders might move to LA? You don't say....
  9. A lot of casual fans don't look at patterns of previous busts or successes from a particular school. They look at big school = good player. He's from Miami, he's from Texas, he's from USC, so he must be better than player Y from a smaller school. I don't recall his work ethic being questioned in college, and I don't follow the draft that closely. It might not have been news to the people who digest college scouting reports and draft guides, but to everyone else it probably was a surprise that he didn't seem to have the heart to be a great player.
  10. Here's another pet peeve - regional sports broadcasts. I always end up on the losing end of these. I was looking forward to the Clemson-'Bama game tonight, but because ABC/ESPN thinks I'm in the Michigan market, I'm stuck watching Michigan State - Cal.
  11. The male Subway employee that made my sammich the other day spoke English, chatted with me and got my order right. I thought about running out and buying a lottery ticket.
  12. Man, if I had a nickel...
  13. I was about to say congratulations - you hit the jackpot and got yourself a Subway employee who actually listens, speaks the language, and doesn't hate his minimum-wage job. Guess not.
  14. Yep, the infamous armchair hindsight talent evaluators, AKA the "I told you so's."
  15. +1 Really glad to see Youboty starting to develop into a NFL player and putting his off-field issues behind him. Kid looks like he can play, let's hope he continues progressing in the regular season.
  16. I look at it like this - who cares whether the fans wanted him or not? We all know Marv's saying about listening to the fans...all I care is that the FO does their due diligence and makes the right pick. A lot of fans saw Williams' Texas pedigree and his towering physique and thought the same as a lot of reporters/draftniks - that he was a lock to be a dominating OT for a long time in a Buffalo uniform. Who knew he wasn't mentally tough enough to develop into the player everyone thought he could be?
  17. Regarding the TE's (from the article linked): Surprisingly the coaching staff carried just three tight ends on the roster including the injured Derek Fine and Derek Schouman. Both Fine and Schouman are questionable at best for the opener with no firm timetable on a return for either.
  18. Not a MAC score, but East Carolina just knocked off #17 Virginia Tech.
  19. Another pet peeve - websites that go heavy on a flash intro, but don't give you an option to "Skip Intro" or click past it.
  20. Funny how us FSU alums/fans can't have a negative opinion about a Florida or Miami player without being accused of jealousy and sour grapes, huh?
  21. I can't speak for cablelady, but during the week our facility is open almost 17 hours a day, and we take registrations for most programs over the phone as well. If you can't get there before 9:45 p.m. and can't find 10 minutes to call, I have little to no sympathy for you.
  22. I work part-time at the local Y, helping at the front desk doing program registrations, memberships, etc. Thursday night the karate class ran right up to closing, so there were some stragglers in the locker room, gym and hanging around the lobby - no biggie, since it usually takes us about 10 minutes to check the building, shut everything off, etc. So I finish my last run through the locker rooms, start shutting off the lights - and at 10:10 some guy comes up and wants to pay for his kid's karate class, and seems ticked when I don't turn everything back on to take his payment. Mind you, the guy has been in the building for nearly an hour but was walking around BS'ing with the other parents. Rude and ignorant.
  23. Just to be clear - he finally gets past the personal and health issues that nagged him the first two years (this is his third season, not his fourth) and in the preseason for his third season he starts showing signs of development in his NFL game and maturity, and you want to trade him off? If this preseason version of Youboty is the real deal, then we could finally be showing signs of having a very solid defensive secondary, and that should leave our scouts to focus on other positions next spring.
  24. If that's the case, and the team did check him out after the surgery and it was termed a success, isn't it even a little possible that there have been problems that have popped up since? The team doesn't know anything about what he's done since the surgery. Has he committed himself to his rehab? What kind of off-season conditioning did he do? Are there any residual problems that have cropped up since the surgery that the team is unaware of, like problems with painkillers, or other injuries they didn't know about?
  25. I suspect I'm having the same difficulty knowing "what you talkin' 'bout" as the rest of the board.
