  1. I thought Derek Fine played pretty well...maybe the first steps toward replacing Robert Royal?
  2. On the first pick Trent threw into double coverage and underthrew Roscoe, who was stumbling when the defender caught the ball. I don't think Roscoe keeping his feet under him would have mattered one bit - it was a bad decision and a bad throw into coverage.
  3. Didn't the Jets give him fits with that same corner blitz in the Meadowlands last year? I seem to remember them blitzing the crap out of him before JP came in, all on that corner blitz, and he just didn't pick it up. I don't think he fumbled but I think he got hit hard a couple times right after throwing. Maybe my memory is off.
  4. Whittle's only decent play came at the end of the game when he fell on Evans' "fumble."
  5. Don't forget the fumble, and only 10 points scored by the O. Not nearly good enough today. Some good play, and some very bad stuff that killed us.
  6. Shhh, that's crazy talk. That was obviously the fault of the WR on an underthrown jump ball.
  7. The only area I want to see faster improvement from McKelvin is his KR. His coverage and reads will come along the more he plays. With Hardy I'm going to reserve judgment until later in the year or the start of next season. Most of the time it takes rookie WR's longer to get their feet under them and make an impact. Would I like to see more from him? Absolutely, but I'm sure as hell not going to call him out after 7 games in his rookie campaign.
  8. Ouch, that hurt. Oh, wait - I'm rubber, you're glue...Whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you. Jack-ASS!
  9. Ah, the old "I know you are but what am I?" reply. Well played.
  10. No doubt, but there are always a few bubble guys that might play at OSU or Penn State but could start quicker and be more of an impact player at a MAC school. Those are the guys that a good recruiter, like Gill, would be more likely to bring to UB than a bad recruiter would.
  11. A 17-letter acronym = Too much time on your hands, Jack-Ass!!
  12. You have way too much time on your hands.
  13. This can't be right. I've been reading, on this very board, that Whitner sucks, he was a reach and he doesn't make any plays.
  14. I'm with you. And also not a moron. I am starting to have doubts about the thread starter, though....
  15. Honestly, I hope not. If Ty is as bad a recruiter as many have described, then I don't think he'd be a good fit at UB. I feel like UB will need a good recruiter to pull the occasional players away from the Penn States, Ohio States, Syracuse, not to mention the rest of the MAC schools.
  16. I don't disagree with the idea of always striving to be better, working hard to improve and erase flaws, with the ultimate goal of being "perfect." But my impression of this comment (and others I've seen attributed to Martz in the past) is that in Martz's eyes, winning is secondary to having the best offense. Because having the best offense ever would stroke Martz's ego more than being the OC for a team that won 12 games and won their division. I think he'd rather be able to say, at the end of the year - "hey, we put up the most yards, most TD's, whatever - who cares that we went 4-12?"
  17. Did you like this part from the same column? Not known for his people skills, Martz baffled his players after their 33-30 comeback victory over the Seahawks last month when, at a team meeting the following day, he told them, “You shouldn’t be satisfied, because it’s not just about winning. It’s about trying to be the best offense in the league … the best offense in history.”
  18. Sounds like, from Michael Silver's Yahoo! Sports column, other Niners players were already getting sick of Davis's crap. Silver has on the exchange between Singletary and Davis: Late in the third quarter, with the Niners trailing 27-6, Davis caught a sideline pass from quarterback Shaun Hill at the Seahawks’ 42-yard line and was driven out of bounds by safety Brian Russell, who talked a little trash in the process. Davis stuck his right hand under Russell’s chin and gave it a push upward, drawing a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. He came off the field acting like nothing had happened, and Singletary began to deliver a stern lecture. “You don’t need to be sayin’ nothin’ to me right now,” Davis barked at the coach, according to witnesses. Singletary ordered Davis to take a seat on the bench, and shortly thereafter the coach approached and stressed the importance of avoiding stupid penalties. “I said I don’t need to hear it,” Davis snapped, cutting him off. Singletary told Davis to go take a shower, and as the Niners were driving for their first and only touchdown of the game, the tight end was waving his helmet at what was left of the announced crowd of 67,504 and heading through the tunnel. Upon reaching the locker room, Davis took his helmet and threw it violently against a wall, according to one eyewitness. Meanwhile, on the 49ers’ sidelines, most of Davis’ teammates were quietly singing the praises of ‘Coach Sing.’ ” Explained one veteran defender: “Vernon does this crap all the time, and Nolan would always let it go. He created this monster. The good news is that Coach Sing wasn’t having that.” Added another veteran defender: “No one’s bigger than the team, right? We were all happy to see that this (expletive) won’t be tolerated.” LINK
  19. SEATTLE (AP)—Tyrone Willingham’s ouster Monday as Washington’s football coach surprised only his players. Two days after the Huskies fell to 0-7, athletic director Scott Woodward sat next to Willingham at the coach’s weekly news conference and announced Willingham will be replaced after the season. A move that seemed seasons in the making was actually days in the making. University president Dr. Mark Emmert said Willingham was told a change would be made after the Huskies lost 34-13 to Oregon State on Oct. 18. LINK I don't know what to make of him. Seems like a class act and real nice guy, but just doesn't seem to be getting it done on the recruiting trail in recent years, and Washington is a mess on the field. He was pretty good at Stanford (44-36-1 in 7 seasons) and was OK at Notre Dame (21-16 in 3 years, although that is bolstered by his 10-3 record in his first season) but is just 11-32 in 3 1/2 years at Washington.
  20. From an article linked in the one Steely posted: Former coach Mike Nolan pulled Davis out of a game earlier this year but did not send him to the locker room. Last month at New Orleans, Davis made a 19-yard catch with 6:20 remaining for his only reception in a 31-17 loss and pounded his chest and yelled loudly. Sounds like Davis' behavior is forming a pattern... LINK
  21. Agree completely about the pass rushers. WRT Winslow: unless the Browns cut him, KW2 has two years left on his deal.
  22. Pass rush.
