ESPN Radio- talking about game last night
Bmwolf21 replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, give them a break - his first catch was all the way back in Week 5 against the Cards. How could The Worldwide Leader in Sports be expected to know that? Or that he caught passes in Week 9 vs. the Jests and Week 10 vs. the P*ts? -
I still don't understand why we run this with Jackson alone in the backfield. Seems to me the reason that Miami and others are more succesful with it is they have a pair of RB's back there, creating a dual threat of "who is going to carry it," and not just running what amounts to a designed QB sweep.

Edwards throwing Lindell under the bus?
Bmwolf21 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True, the distances could impact the theory, but unless they were all 20-yard kicks, then I"ll probably be pretty comfortable taking my chances with an 85-90% kicker in those situations. But the conditions, distance and wind, OTOH.... -
So Cleveland won the toss and deferred, right?

A Few Thoughts About The Game
Bmwolf21 replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Given the choice, I'd rather have a guy play with the confidence that he force a throw in somewhere - like Jimbo used to - rather than someone who is afraid to let 'er rip. Trent showed both extremes last night - he spent much of the night checking down and dumping off, but that throw to Royal - just before Jauron's vagina flared up - was a thing of beauty and was a very confident, strong strike. If he plays like that and gets picked off occasionally, whatever. I'm cool with it. But I cannot stand a QB playing scared. Kelsay looked fantastic chasing the RB on that wheel route. Great defensive play call that was, BTW - let's have Kelsay drop into man coverage on a RB. Good call, Perry. Although I suppose that even if he did try pass rushing he would have ended up just as far away from the QB as he did chasing the RB down the field... -
Sad but true. Absolutely. The best thing to do with a young kid struggling to adjust to the speed and talent of the NFL is to bench him and not tell him why. It's probably how all the greats were taught. /sarcasm Hopefully someone will actually sit down with him over the next couple days and explain what the problems were, why he got benched and what he needs to work on and improve.

Edwards throwing Lindell under the bus?
Bmwolf21 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Shhh...that doesn't fit with the misconception that Lindell sucks and is an anti-clutch kicker. And that stat was ignored the first time it was brought up, earlier in this thread. (Full disclosure - I thought it said 12 of 13 before the kick, but I could be wrong. Even 11 of 13 is still pretty damn good.) -
Edwards throwing Lindell under the bus?
Bmwolf21 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not to mention that graphic ESPN put up before the kick - IIRC, it said that Lindell had hit 12 of 13 GW or GT FG's under 2:00 in his career. That screams "not clutch." -
Absolutely. Dawson kicked his 56-yarder at the same end, right? And the Browns did the same thing when they got to the Bills' 40 - run, run, run, right?
-
No, they don't. I've had the displeasure of seeing most of the Crennel-led Browns the last two years, and he is absolutely awful at managing a game. His teams routinely waste timeouts, screw up two-minute drills with bad decisions on when to call TOs and when to spike the ball, and Romeo has shown a penchant for going conservative and settling for FG attempts when he should be trying to get the ball in the end zone. But as bad as he is - he's still better at it than Dick. For me, that's the most telling thing about how bad Dick is as a game-day coach. He might be a great coach Mon-Saturday, but come Sunday he's useless on the sidelines.

Save him the pain. Delete it from the DVR and tell him the mylar balloons blew another transformer and caused another blackout. -
Is Jauron the worst head coach in the league?

Is Jauron the worst head coach in the league?
Bmwolf21 replied to KD in CA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd have to give most Lions' coaches an "incomplete" for their coaching grade, simply because they're still trying to clean up Matt Millen's mess. But right now I'm pretty sure Jauron is bottom three. -
Can this team just move to Toronto already?
Bmwolf21 replied to SoCal Pat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You know what's worse than coming out of training camp, knowing you'll have a sh!tty team that will have to fight to win anything? Having a team go 4-0 out of of camp and get your hopes up, then kick you in the nuts over and over again. Frigging bunch of rooster-tease losers... -
Thanks.

Can someone recap his comments for those of us who missed it? Thanks in advance.

Or maybe he's just a better college coach than he is an NFL coach. -
Cleveland fans must see the writing on the wall...where I work it's pretty well known that I'm a Bills fan, yet no one has really given me any grief this week and no one is really talking about the game. It's eerily quiet in Browns country....

Buffalo is going to kick Cleveland's @$$!
Bmwolf21 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was thinking the same thing.... -
What a nightmare that game turned out to be. Losing McClure on a celebration, the fantastic senior leadership Derek Nicholson showed when he was flagged for an unnecessary UC penalty when we stopped them late in the game; really disgusted with another FSU WR acting like a spoiled little prima donna (Parker at the end of the game); and how fitting was it that BC fumbled in the FSU red zone at the end and no Nole could get anywhere near it? I really think the WR brawl was an unnecessary distraction to the team, and I was really surprised at how bad the defense played. I haven't seen the Noles D that frustrated by a team in some time. Ponder showed that he has a ways to go in learning how to read defenses and make the right throw - that pick-6 was awful, and for some reason he trusted that Greg Carr was going to help him out on that jump ball (stupid move there).
-
Ramius - even though the game sucked, how were the seats? I really miss being able to get to Doak for home games...

Hey, where's your blackout stuff? BTW, will Easterling, Reed, Surrency, Cameron Wade and Richard Goodman be sitting in the student section tonight? Bunch of morons. Reed especially - really showing he just doesn't get it.

Why aren't helmets foam padded on the outside?
Bmwolf21 replied to busterramsey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kelso's "extra" helmet wasn't foam, it was a hard-plastic shell. LINK Dr, Back in the late 80's / early 90's there was a player on the Bills whose helmet was covered with what appeared to be exterior padding. His helmet looked HUGE! Who was that and what was the story with this helmet? Hadn't exterior helmet padding already been known to cause neck injury by that time? Thanks, Dear Sir: You are referring to a product called the "Procap Eliminator" and it is manufactured by Protection Sports Equipment which is located in Edinburg, PA. The product is basically a protective cap that attaches over a conventional helmet with six Velcro strips. The cap comes in several team colors and it can also be painted in any color using flexible type paint. It can be further decorated with conventional team decals and stripes. The cap has a center layer of softer padding surrounded by a top and bottom layer of harder, slick surface plastic material (similar to a modern flexible car bumper). The harder slick outer surface helps to deflect a collision similar to a conventional helmet shell and the harder slick inner surface is designed to break free of the helmet shell in the event of an extreme collision while absorbing the force of the collision as it becomes dislodged. This concept is quite different compared to the older style padded helmets form the 1960s and 1970s that had a softer outer surfaces that tended to grab and result in serious neck injuries while the underside of the padding was permanently glued and sewn to the surface of the helmet shell. Mark Kelso (Bills) and Steve Wallace (49ers) were the only two NFL players known to have worn the "Procap Eliminator" during actual league games. When it was suggested that Steve Young try this cap to help reduce the chance of future concussions he remarked that he would first retire before wearing the unusual looking device. Apparently there is less vanity in the high school and college ranks where this product is worn by many players who have suffered previous head injuries while wearing only the conventional protective helmet. This product is not endorsed by Riddell and Schutt has not taken an official position regarding its use. NFL trainers are reluctant to recommend its use without endorsement from the helmet industry. -
