With Trent's style of play to date - safe, generally smart, takes what the D gives him when he's rushed, and able to make most of the throws when he has time (and confidence) - I really think he would be a very solid quarterback in something similar to what Pittsburgh runs - a lot of running, ball-control, power stuff - where they don't have to rely heavily on the QB, and the defense is good enough to bail out the offense when it struggles. Understood. I really don't know why they don't look at Pittsburgh heavily and try to imitate what they do. (I also not a big fan of this bastardized Tampa-2 defensive system, but that's another rant for another time.) They could look at NE*'s offense but I think the P*ts just have a lot more talent all around, both on the field and on the sideline.

Absolutely, and that was what we kicked around yesterday in another thread. Bottom line is we are a cold-weather franchise in a mostly cold-weather division, and yet we are built and prepare like a dome team or a southern division team. We need to be a ball-control running team with a strong defense. I think Trent would be very good in that kind of system.

Of course the number of hits a player takes and the talent surrounding him makes a difference, and in that respect the "system" can contribute to injuries. You wouldn't want Bledsoe running naked bootlegs (you hear that, Killdrive?) but again, Trent was only sacked 23 times this year. Some guys are injury prone, no matter what they do. And now that Trent has a concussion history we should be very concerned about his health. On your second paragraph - I don't even know where to start. That sounds like a press release from his agent. It's Pollyanna fanspeak, nothing else.

Once again you're reaching a conclusion that the facts don't necessarily support. You can't say that the system Turk is running here and what the Rams are running now are the exact same systems that Martz ran in St Louis and this year in SF. (I also find it hard to believe that three years after Martz was fired from the Rams they are still running his offense.) And you're completely disregarding the fact that all three teams were bad teams this year - meaning more throwing (playing catchup) and likely worse personnel, specifically on the offensive line. Yes, TE was surrounded by poor talent in Stanford, and he took a beating. But he still has not completed a season since HS, IIRC, and that says injury prone, not "blame the system."

The quote that sent me over the edge

I hate Robert Royal so much. Keep yapping, Royal - you better support the only coach in the NFL who thinks you are a legitimate option at Tight End... -
We already went through this yesterday, but here goes again: Yes, Martz's 49ers QBs were most sacked in the league (55 times). Maybe that's scheme and maybe that's personnel, but more likely some combination of the two. The Rams were 6th in the league in sacks allowed with 45. The Bills - 10th with 38 sacks allowed. Once again - TE was only sacked 23 times in 14 games, roughly half as many times as the league leaders went down. How did the Pats and Steelers win so many games with their QBs getting hit so much? What common fate did the 49ers, Bills and Rams suffer this year as a result of the Mike Martz offense? Missing the playoffs is the only link, but I think that's more a result of being poorly coached and/or talent-thin teams, not simply because of the offense they run. Going one step further - only one of the top 12 teams in terms of sacks allowed made the playoffs. Could it simply be that bad teams miss the playoffs and part of the reason they do is they allow more sacks than the rest of the league (because they have inferior offensive lines and/or are playing from behind, necessitating they throw more)? And again, Mike Martz is looking for a job because he wants to run the wide-open passing game and Singletary wants to run the ball more and play a little more conservative. And he's an egotistical jackass who cares more about rankings, stats, points and yards, not winning. So I flip it around on you - what proof do you have that the "Mike Martz offense" is the reason that TE is injury prone? What about when he was at Stanford?

Biggest Problem--We Need a Top Flight GM

Way too much geometry involved in the ownership of the Bills... -
I'm not a STH or resident of WNY, but if I were I'd be pretty leery about giving RW more money so he can continue to cry poormouth and be miserly with the positions that are really important - the front office guys, all while RW is increasing his family's inheritance. If Ralph said "I'm going to raise ticket prices but that will let us bring in a Cowher/Pioli combo or something like that, then I'd be much more likely to agree to that. I might even go in with my brother on his ST package in that case.

"Are You Pumped For Year Four of Jauron?"
Bmwolf21 replied to Lori's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure I follow. By most accounts Dick alone was responsible for three losses - is this a 7-9 team, a 10-6 team, a 4-12 team? In any case, this team had enough talent to win a couple division games and contend for the playoffs, and there's no way you can convince me that Jauron got everything out of them that anyone could. I think they were 7-9 in spite of Jauron and his staff. -

Fair enough. We're a cold weather franchise in a mostly cold-weather division, we need to start building a team that fits the elements. We're not a dome team, so we need to stop building and practicing like one. -

No, it won't. We are a cold-weather team. We need to run a ball control, running offense and let our franchise backs carry the load. -
I only knew because when we moved to Orlando we had TWC and partway through they switched over to the Bright House name.

Thank you. So Mike Martz was fired because his offense caused his QB's to get hammered so many more times than other teams? Like Pittsburgh and NE, whose QB's were sacked just six and seven times fewer, respectively? Your theory about why Trent got hurt with severe concussions doesn't hold water. TE was only sacked 23 times in 14 games this year, far, far fewer than the league leaders (Cassel 47, Roethlisberger 46, Garrard 42.) TE has concussions and injury problems because that is his physical makeup. Period. Not because of the offense. All of this is getting away from the point. What specifically makes you believe that a coaching staff that failed to adequately prepare its players for games this year suddenly "gets it" and knows how to make the correct changes and adjustments to bring the offense back to life? There is NOTHING in Jauron's body of work that suggest to me that he is going to have some coaching epiphany and all of the sudden install a new system that will take advantage of our players' strengths. -

This isn't as simple as "run the ball more" (which they also did a piss-poor job of doing). This was the OC and HC not being on the sme page about what to run. This was about the two-minute offense looking like a monkey sh-- fight at the zoo. It was about wasted timeouts, putting our speed back in short-yardage situations, not enough touches for Marshawn, etc... By the way, whose offensive philosophy was that anyway? Jauron's? Fairchild's? Wasn't one of Schonert's main selling points that he knew the offense and was going to tweak it a little and get more guys involved in the offensive game plan? Mike Martz is looking for work because he is an egotistical assclown who cares more about yards, rankings and stats than winning. -

No one is suggesting they should have revamped the offense midseason. They sure as hell could have altered their gameplans, ran the ball more, stopped with the ridiculous shotgun/spread formations on third and short, found ways to get the ball into the hands of Lee Evans, got Robert Royal off the field, got the OC and the HC on the same page... -
Bright House is part of Time Warner and is a big cable provider in the Central Florida region, specifically Orlando and Tampa.

Yep, the same staff that couldn't identify and correct any of those problems over the last 17 weeks suddenly figured out all the problems with a couple days meetings with the "inner circle." -

Orange should never be a primary color for any major sports team. (Ducking now in case any of the Brownies fans see me type that).

Hey, Robert Royal - STFU and count your blessings. You should be ecstatic that Jauron is coming back. He's probably the only HC who has been fooled into thinking you are a viable pass-catching TE in the NFL.
