  1. I felt the same thing when we were living in Florida, and even didn't mind the first winter we were back. Now it's three years later and I'm wondering WTF we were thinking moving to snowy, wintry area. As for the temps, I tend to agree with BuffaloBill - the temp is one thing, it's the tagalong ice, snow and wind chills that suck. FWIW, I remember what my father told me when I was younger and complaining about the winter cold - you can always put more clothes/layers on when it's cold, but when it gets hot there's only so much you can take off.
  2. I think you're right. IIRC it was in early 2006 that regulators pressured the CC companies to bump the minimums from 2% to 4%.
  3. Saw them walking together at the local Labor Day parade this year. She's not smoking hot (but I wouldn't say no and wouldn't kick her outta bed) -- but is definitely way out of his league.
  4. How about Bailout Ballpark or Federally Funded Field (from the second article).
  5. Dell ran their mouths a few years back about taking a big bite out of iPod's market share, and rolled out their Digital Jukebox (DJ) line of mp3 players. That didn't work out so well and Dell discontinued their entire mp3 line in August 2006.
  6. I just wonder why Citi realized (with some nudging from the WH) that taking delivery of a $50M corporate jet is bad but Citi has no problem paying $400M to put their name on a ballpark.
  7. To be honest, half the time I have no idea what you're talking about when you post things like this.
  8. Two members of the House of Representatives are demanding that the Mets scrap their $400-million naming-rights deal with financially troubled Citigroup because of the bank's receipt of federal bailout money. Reps. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) and Ted Poe (R-Texas) sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner requesting he "dissolve" the contract with the Mets to name their stadium Citi Field. The Mets' home opener there is set for April 13. http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/met...,0,617549.story Columnist Anthony Reiber: How should you feel about two members of Congress calling on the new Treasury Secretary to force Citigroup to cancel its $400-million naming-rights deal for the Mets' new ballpark, Citi Field? Before you answer, take out your most recent paycheck. See the line that shows how much was taken out in federal taxes? Now think about this: Under the Mets' naming-rights deal with Citigroup, some of that money - your money - is going to make a four-part journey. It will go from 1. your paycheck to 2. Washington, D.C., to 3. the coffers of Citigroup to 4. the Mets. That's right. Citigroup can't afford the 20-year, $400-million deal it agreed to in 2006. It can't afford a lot of things right now, which is why the company has shed more than 50,000 jobs and needed a $350- billion bailout from the federal government. http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/met...,1844423.column
  9. Seconded.
  10. Did you even read my post, or just go off half-cocked and start typing a reply without reading it? Alphadawg said that Dick had NO input into personnel while he was in Chicago, and all I did was question that. I never said anything about the guys brought in, who pursued/signed them, who was the true talent evaluator or anything. Just pointing out that the idea that DJ had NO input into personnel matters was laughable. Surprisingly I did know about Jauron's one-hit wonder year in Chicago, where he won COTY honors and took the Bears to his only playff appearance as a HC (a loss) followed by a quick return to reality for DJ and Da Bears, going 5-11 and then 6-10 in his last two years. The 13-3/COTY year was an aberration, nothing more. For the most part I usually like what you post, so I'm gonna go ahead and assume you meant to respond to someone else. Otherwise I think you might want to look into a course in reading comprehension before posting. Another shining example of the circular logic of DJ defenders.
  11. Really? Dick had NO personnel input at all in Chicago? His work was done once the Bears' season ended? They gave him draft weekend off? Told him "thanks, but we've got this under control" when Dick expressed interest in potential free agents? Chucky will have trouble finding work? Super Bowl winning coaches - even ones who lucked into the perfect storm of talent and destiny that all they had to do was stay out of the way and not !@#$ it up - are still fairly rare and will get another shot. I really can't tell if this is Dick, Dick's wife or mother, or a spurned ex-TB player cut by Chucky posting under Alphadawg's screen name.
  12. Big difference between an enforcer and a cheap-shot artist. Neil is the latter, and I agree with ofiba and Zamboni - no thanks.
  13. CNN Money has a good interactive map that shows the unemployment rates for all 50 states. http://money.cnn.com/news/storysupplement/...apmap/index.htm
  14. Best Super Bowl team, not game. I was very impressed with the SB XXIX 49ers and how they rolled the Chargers. I'd also have to begrudgingly agree with PushthePile - the 92 Cowboys were a damn good team.
  15. 68% and 16th in the league isn't a lot to crow about, although I'd agree with dib that a big part of the problem is the tendency to "get cute" and try to outsmart the opponent by spreading out the field in short-yardage situations.
  16. Yep. I was really surprised that he left early, since most didn't think he was ready, but OTOH he might have wanted to get as far away from Jeffy Bowden as possible.
  17. I'm not making excuses for Trent. He's done some good and some bad, and has a lot of work and growing to do to be a franchise QB. Yes, there are talent deficiencies in certain areas of this team. But to point at two games and single out two players for blame when the head coach put them in a position to fail rather than succeed is unfair and inaccurate. Oh, and Dick sucks.
  18. As do the attempts to paint DJ as a victim of circumstance or how "he would be a winner if only..."
  19. Nah, the bad ending happened when that old bag tossed that huge-ass jewel overboard.
  20. You're right about Sammy's. We used to go there after softball and hockey games, and one week the food would be great and then next it would be awful.
  21. Update: DALLAS - The coach of a Texas high school basketball team that beat another team 100-0 was fired Sunday, the same day he sent an e-mail to a newspaper saying he will not apologize “for a wide-margin victory when my girls played with honor and integrity.” Kyle Queal, the headmaster for Covenant School, said in The Dallas Morning News online edition that he could not answer if the firing was a direct result of coach Micah Grimes’ e-mail disagreeing with administrators who called the blowout “shameful.” ------------------ Grimes, who has been criticized for letting the game get so far out of hand, made it clear in the e-mail Sunday to the newspaper that he does not agree with his school’s assessment. “In response to the statement posted on The Covenant School Web site, I do not agree with the apology or the notion that the Covenant School girls basketball team should feel embarrassed or ashamed,” Grimes wrote in the e-mail, according to the newspaper. “We played the game as it was meant to be played. My values and my beliefs would not allow me to run up the score on any opponent, and it will not allow me to apologize for a wide-margin victory when my girls played with honor and integrity.” http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/28845363/
  22. Hmmm: You're right, that's absolutely crystal clear - if you speak Steely Dan.
  23. Sometimes I don't know why I bother. It's like I need a translator to figure out WTF you are talking about or getting at.
