  1. The fact that this thread continues to breathe after page 11 is proof of how screwed up this world has become. (Bear in mind that at the time the thread had a different title.)
  2. If it were one of those "you hate him because he's not on your team" things then I'd agree. But he a dirty, cheapshotting SOB who has taken too many liberties with both Sabres and other teams' players. No thanks.
  3. This stuff is simply BS that couldn't be further from the truth, and frankly, adds nothing to the debate. It's not a matter of "you not explaining yourself correctly," it's a matter of you simply being wrong (again). Yes, hockey players have been charged for on-ice stuff. Yes, hockey players have been arrested and have associated with unsavory characters. But yet again, you ignore the OP for the sake of disagreeing. I'll repeat it for the last time - the whole point of the OP was that generally speaking, hockey players conduct themselves much more professionally and hold themselves to higher standards than football players. I'm looking at it from the standard of arrests and embarrassing behavior, and in those areas the NFL is the "winner" by a long shot. Maybe there are factors like differences in media scrutiny and coverage, but it still doesn't change the fact that NFL players get into trouble on a large scale. I'm out after this one, because arguing with you is the same as arguing with wall or a small child - you take a contrarian position just for the sake of being disagreeable, then cover your ears and stamp your feet until other people realize the futility of debating with you.
  4. Probably true. I'm probably lucky they even installed Word and Excel on that computer, let alone going with all those other crazy Office programs.
  5. Thanks, I'll give that a shot. I still have another 75 or so entries to add tomorrow, so I'll see if that works. I can't change anything in the regional or date/time settings as someone suggested because it is a shared network computer and the IT department locked everyone out of those areas.
  6. I already formatted the cells so Excel would convert the 2-digit year into a 4-digit, but I don't know why most of the cells are defaulting to 19xx and a handful are defaulting to 20xx. When I finished the first sheet I ran a sort and there were only five cells that screwed up the date, so it was easy to correct the mistakes. I was just curious as to what might be causing it so I could avoid it/correct it in the future.
  7. I am entering data into a basic spreadsheet for work, with five fields: customer first/last name, DOB, phone # and T-shirt size. The DOB cells are formatted with a general date format, where the date entered as 4-5-30 defaults to 4/5/1930. But for some reason, a handful of birthdates are defaulting to a year 2000 date - the 4-5-30 is showing up as 4/5/2030. Any ideas what is causing the problem and how I might be able to fix it?
  8. I remember reading that a couple years back. Weird story, especially the stuff about the agent's influence over the kid and other players. ANyway, the point wasn't that NHL players are angels or that they never get into trouble. Just that in comparison to their NFL brethern, NHL players are (generally speaking) in less trouble and tend not to get arrested as much. For every Danton story there are probably three or more NFL players accused of something as bad or worse (Rae Carruth, Ray Lewis and Pacman Jones come to mind in this case).
  9. Right, the NHL spin machine is good enough to cover up all its player's heinous acts, but the NFL's PR department just isn't as good. Got it. Shouldn't have expected anything less from you, but this one is quickly turning into an EiI classic. You miss, ignore or distort the original point, then when you get called on it, you duck, dodge, spin and call people names. Flash over substance, I guess. The only thing your post was missing was a cryptic reference to how things used to be and how that means some current trend or series of events is/are silly or unnecessary. So to clarify - it's foolish to say that NFL players, who get arrested in in bunches, don't act worse than their NHL counterparts, who have a much lower rate of arrests/unprofessional conduct. Yep, that's crystal clear - I can see why what I posted was foolish. Nice holier than thou attitude, thou -- "I refuse to stereotype one over the other like you seem to do." OK. . But I'll give you the chance to dig deeper and find all these acts that prove the NHL is AS BAD as the NFL, which once again was the point. Heck, I'd be happy if you could find a couple guys who were half as bad as Pacman, Chris Henry and Tank Johnson. Because if you truly believe that NHL players are as unprofessional and commit as many crimes and infractions as NFL players, then I don't know what to say except take your head out of the sand.
  10. That's what you've got? Child's play. What do you have - an idiot goaltender who wasn't smart enough to not drink and drive and got himself killed, and a hotshot superstar who drove recklessly and got into an accident which killed his teammate. Pacman Jones ALONE is close to having a worse police record than what you posted. (FWIW, Henrik and co. had the case dropped on two separate occasions, since there was no evidence that they forced the girl. Is he a little freaky for gangbanging a drunk chick with a couple other Swedish hockey players? Sure. Not criminal, though.) But once again you miss the point: Generally Speaking (not in every case obviously) but it seems that hockey players conduct themselves much more professionally and hold themselves to higher standards than football players. The OP did not say that NHL players are choir boys, just that GENERALLY SPEAKING they are less likely to get into trouble or behave in an unprofessional manner than their NFL counterparts.
  11. Had the same problem here - it wouldn't my answer of . I know I spelled everything right, though... 22/40, so it should have been 23/40. Not much better.
  12. Please, go on. I'm interested to read about all the bad things NHL players do that are on par with what NFL players have been busted for.
  13. Yep. There's combine/"track" speed and then there's football game speed.
  14. Not to mention the number of "word of mouth" stories about Jimbo and co.
  15. Anyone else confused as heck when Steely and chknwing post in the same thread?
  16. Reunion.com's advertising emails suck. I did sign up a while ago (pre-Facebook) to see if a couple HS friends were on there, but no luck. Anyway, I keep getting the same advertising message from them - saying a 38-year-old female living in RI who went to "LaSalle Academy" (I went to LaSalle High School in Niagara Falls) "viewed my profile." Every damn time it's the same message.
  17. It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now. Steely - wow. Glad to hear you're doing better. Get well soon, man.
  18. This article says that Alomar told her he was free of any STD's. Not that she should have taken that as gospel, but I think if he knew he had HIV, didn't tell her and then knowingly had unprotected sex with her - he could be in a lot of trouble. Ilya Dall of Whitestone said she met Alomar, 41, in 2002 and began an intimate relationship with him in which he said he was free of any sexually transmitted diseases, according to the papers.
  19. Agreed on both counts. I really, really loved going to the gym this morning, putting it on ESPN, and watching the first half-hour of SportsCenter dedicated to Princess Brett's "retirement". ESPN is a ing joke.
  20. Thanks for the breakdown, but it was really more of a rhetorical question...
  21. Yep. 29 in Buffalo, 25 in Toronto for 54 on the year. He also played 83 regular-season games that year. Andy hit 53 the following season and never cracked 30 again for the rest of his career. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=80
  22. Yeah, I guess I have to give him credit for not pulling out the most ridiculous denial ever - Clemens' "I'd have a third ear growing out of my forehead." I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm pretty ticked because I hoped that A-Rod was clean, and that he'd eventually knock Barroid out of the HR record books. BTW, anyone else up for resetting the HR marks to the pre-Steroid Era and giving Maris and Hammerin' Hank their records back? Nice.
  23. Maybe he stopped the anabolic steroids themselves, but what about "the cream", "the clear", HGH and whatever other designer boutique drugs that are out there, drugs that have either limited or no testing available, or are detectable only by blood tests - which the union has blocked.
  24. No, it's a BS PR move. This "apology" was completely expected and completely contrived. Does anyone really believe that he really stopped using after he tested positive? As for the union and justice department? Cry me a river. I couldn't care less if the league made every one of those who tested positive wear a big scarlet "S" on their uniforms.
