There's nothing funny about it. Since both Losman's and Brees' first 9 games came in their second years, I felt that was the fairest comparison. If, however, one prefers upon using 12 games: In Losman's first twelve games, he had *three* sub-100 yard passing days. Drew Brees had *zero* (although he came close in two). In Losman's first nine games, he had *three* sub-50% completion days. Drew Brees had *zero*. In other words, under this metric, the first nine games were actually *more favorable* to Losman than the first twelve games. Must have been my visceral anti-Losman hatred, huh? As for your comment about QB Rating, perhaps you are someone who believes that a QB's performance over 9-12 games can be summed up in a single statistical number that uses arbitrary weighting factors for a combination of measures. Personally, even though I use stats a lot, I am not one of those persons. This is a classic example of how a single aggregate average can completely obscure how one QB played far, far, better in his second year in the League than another QB did in his second year. JDG

You clearly have a deep visceral hatred of JP Losman......

Ain't that the truth!

Depends on how you look at it. Both Brees and Losman started for the first time in the second year in the League. In Losman's first nine games, he had *two* sub-100 yard passing days. Drew Brees had *zero* (although he came close once). In Losman's first nine games, he had *three* sub-50% completion days. Drew Brees had *zero*. Overall, Brees wasn't nearly as bad in his first nine games as Losman was.... JDG

It seems to me that we attempted quite a few deep balls against both the Dolphins and Jets. We just didn't complete many of them.... JDG

What do you say to Jp after our loss to the Jets?

Well, you have to concede that the end of last week certainly constituted some mixed results. Yes, he did a great job on the TD drive, but after the onsides kick he was a complete disaster. I don't know if it was the rain, or if it was nerves, or what -but I think that any Bills fan would have hoped that that drive after the onsides kick would have gone a little better. JDG -
I will bet you $1000 that you can't find a single post where I typed those words. If you are going to put things in big, bold, blue, letters you shouldn't have to resort to making things up, Fox News boy.... JDG

You clearly have a visceral hatred of JP Losman that has driven you to delusions...

And yet, you keep reading my posts..... Or do you? http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=52318 "Crusade of Hatred", right? JDG

Yeah, and I'm sure that you've never made a poor choice of words on an Internet message board after seeing a play only once. The point remains, given the effort McGahee had to put into catching that ball, it would have been very difficult, if not inhuman, for him to knock it down. The only person who is deluded is the person who somehow concluded from a 2-2 playoff record in two healthy seasons that a certain QB could never possibly appear in a Super Bowl. Yeah, Kelly, *I'm* the deluded one here..... JDG

I still saw a few passes thrown in the dirt today, but overall, his accuracy is much better than it was last year. His decision-making, however, seemed generally terrible. Several times he launched bombs into double-coverage. Many times he would run around extensively behind the line, but never seemed to find an open man (was everyone *really* covered?) And his performance on the final drive with one minute left was abysmal. It appears that Losman simply doesn't have the ice running through his veins in those late-game jittery moments that good "comeback" quarterbacks have... JDG

I think it is grossly unfair to suggest that Willis should have had the smarts to try and knock down a pass while fully extended to catch Losman's poorly-decided, over-thrown, touchless, missile that was lobbed at him. Moreover, Willis had to know that the *coaches* had tol him to run an outlet route for a reason. It would be insubordination for Willis to decide that he is going to knock down a ball that is thrown to him. Hopefully, if the ball is thrown well, Willis can gain a few yards and get out of bounds. I'm one of Willis' biggest critics, but I can't fault him for this one. That play is entirely Losman's fault, and to a lesser degree, the coaches'. JDG

I've often heard Jets fans say that Fletcher is a completely overrated player because he is always making tackles five yards down the field.... so it just seems ironic to have a Bills fan making that critique of Vilma....

But London Fletcher is great, right?

That was a reply to SDS....

We just won't mention the Survivor Pool....... ;-)

I don't see it - they've got new coaches, no RB to speak of, some question marks on the offensive line, weakness in the secondary, etc. And the Bills looked very much like the better team for long stretches today - which given how bad the Bills are, is certainly saying something. JDG -

And if I say that JP Losman will never develop the mental decision-making necessary to win a Super Bowl, and offer you $1000 that the Bills never win a Super Bowl with JP Losman, are you in? JDG -
JP Losman: Better, but Still Just Not Good Enough
JDG replied to JDG's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The defense held the Jets to 257 total yards of offense, 21 offensive points, forced four three-and-outs and seven punts overall. It wasn't a dominating defensive day, but it wasn't a bad defensive day. JDG -

And Chad Pennington has no chance to win a Super Bowl because in just *two-and-a-half* healthy seasons as a starter all he has done is win a division title and a wild card berth while playing the same division as a dynasty, beat Peyton Manning in the playoffs 41-0, win a road playoff game in San Diego, and take the Steelers to overtime in the playoffs in Pittsburgh. Oh yeah, but he has *NO* chance to get to a Super Bowl because even though he plays twice as smart as JP Losman, he doesn't have JP Losman's cannon arm and mobility. To me, this is a classic case of infatuation with physical tools, while downplaying a QB's single-most important tool - his brain, and completely missing the most important thing - the results on the field. You've been discussing Losman for far longer than today. This is what I mean by talking out of both sides of your mouth. You are the only person who could describe a post stating your preference for Losman (who has never done anything) over Pennington (who has done some things) as "basically blasting Losman." And here's where you complete the Texas two-step. You prefer Losman because he "may" win a Conference Championship, but you lay down a $1000 bet on whether Pennington *will* win a Conference Championship - the rest of his team disregarded apparently. So, is Joey Harrington a potential winner too in your book? JDG -

I don't know any NFL coach that would continue to start a QB who had just passed for 113, 75, and 75 yards on three consecutive weeks while completing less than 47% of his passes in each. Perhaps. But other QB's would have either read or felt the blitz and gotten rid of the football. JDG -

How about this - if we had Chad Pennington, the Bills would not have had a safety against New England, and would have won today, and would be 3-0 right now and thinking playoffs..... I'm sure we'd just go on the road to San Diego and Pittsburgh in the playoffs and have no shot to win, right? Or maybe we'd face the Colts in the playoffs? Oh wait, the last time Chad Pennington did that, in his *third year* I might add, he won 41-0. Nevermind.... JDG -

And to think that you accuse me of not reading your posts. Your problem is that you talk out of both sides of your mouth. Somehow you manage to rip into me anytime that I criticize Losman, and yet you always have some half-hearted criticism of Losman of your own to trot out anytime someone tries to pin down your opinion. Your infatuation with Losman and his arm-strenght is long-standing position of yours on this board. You have consistently posted that you love Losman's arm strength, and that therfore the Bills just need to force-feed Losman experience to see if he gets better. This is in contrast to my position that we should play a QB who exhibits better decision-making, rather than a QB who simply exhibits the cannon arm. (For the record, the QB the Bills should be playing, IMHO, is Losman.) Because you downplay decision-making relative to arm strength, you also play down the evidence from Losman's growing body of work (12 games now and in his third season) and try to pretend that he is a complete unknown. Of course, Chad Pennington looked pretty good after 12 games - and it didn't take the supposedly noodle-armed Pennington 12 games to throw for 300+ yards.) In any event, what, we are going to define Chad Pennington's career as a QB solely on the basis of whether or not he plays in a Super Bowl? Would you accept that benchmark for JP Losman, let alone accept that bet???? I think that Chad Pennington has been and will continue to be a very successful NFL QB, and I'm not about to define any QB"s career by getting to a Super Bowl. JDG -

The 'tease' is the sucker bet you are proposing. Peyton Manning hasn't played in a Super Bowl either. Dan Marino went 14 seasons without playing in a Super Bowl. Chad Pennington, when he's been healthy, has an impressive resume under his belt. He's 2-2 in the playoffs, and by rights should be better than that. He has a ridiculous TD/INT ratio in the red zone. I think your post does, however, highlight your infatutation with JP Losman. It seems that you greatly over-value arm strength and greatly under-value decision-making. Pennington is one of the best decision-makers in the League, and that counts for an awful lot in my book. As the Bills learned today, things like sacks, turnovers, and bad decisions lose games for football teams. JDG
