    The evaluation is not Fred in 2014 weighed against Fred a few years ago. It's the value Fred brings in 2014 vs the value of moving him. Move him may get you a low draft pick, and minimal cap relief for a team that doesn't need it, but it also creates another hole in the offensive personnel. Makes little sense. Subtraction by subtraction.

    Byrd won't re-sign. He can get a good contract on the market, likely choose to sign with a contender, while also escaping this misery. There is likely to be no advantage in re-signing. He's gone.

    I'm somewhat skeptical of the whole analytics thing, but this bit from the OP's link ring true for me in today's league: Passing adds a lot more to your offense in terms of points scored than running can hope to add in today's game. A balanced offense in 2013 is not the same thing as it was even a few years ago. kj
