No offense but the rest of the world has already caught up to the US in basketball and baseball. When the rest of the world cares about football, it'll probably be the case too. When a sport become popular, the rest of the world learns the sport and tries to become the best at it. Northern Americans have embraced hockey and now find themselves a world hockey super power. They played a great tourney and have nothing to be ashamed about, especially with the dominance they are showing at the junior level. Leave the sour grapes in the produce aisle.

My thoughts...as I stumble into the office after a night of celebration... It was the near perfect hockey game. For fans of the sport, if you ever need an example of why you love hockey, point to this game. The drama, the excitement, the celebration and most importantly, the class shown by players of each team to each other after the game. No singular game has ever encapsulated all that is right about the sport like yesterday did. To the US team, congratulations on a fantastic tournament. No one will ever take you lightly again. Hopefully, this game sparks the youth of America with a new love affair with the game and your programs continue to grow and churn out amazing talent. I think though that you might already be there...you've won the under 16, under-17 and the World Juniors. You've got some great kids coming up the pipeline. Welcome to being a hockey superpower. As for my Canadian team: thank you. Thank you for ending the Olympic games on the highest of notes. Thank you for giving me a sports moment I will never, ever forget. What a great game.

I'd be embarrassed too if my Prime Minister decided to call a press conference to call his country's athletes EPIC FAIL losers....

I was thinking about this last night after Finland beat Slovakia. Isn't it almost better to win the bronze than the silver in terms of emotions. At least when you win the bronze, you go out on a win and you get to celebrate. You "win" the silver and you really can't be happy or celebrate at all, you just sit there and wonder what went wrong. All I ask for is a great game to cap off a fantastic tournament. And people, can we just leave it to the fact that it is a hockey game. Sure winning is nice, but let's leave the "my country is better than yours!" childish nonsense at the door and cheer on the players who have chosen to represent our country. I'm a proud Canadian, but that doesn't mean I'm not happy with our neighbours down below. I spend too much time in America to know how great a country it is.

I agree with this. Many of the players truly love the Olympic experience and hence why many stepped up their level of play to be in consideration. It's the chance to play for your country, which in sports, is the greatest honor of them all. Both the US and Canadian NHL players have embraced the 'Olympic moment'. I've heard numerous stories of how players are content eating in the general athletes village and really getting to know their fellow countrymen. The players have been supporting their teams in other events. Maybe the Olympics give these guys 2 weeks to not be "overpaid athletes" and really play for the love of the game. And think of it this way, if the NBA didn't send out players for the first Dream Team and embarrass every other country during those games, do you think we'd see the same level of international disparity we see in the game now? Keep in mind that there are now basketball superpowers.

I'd argue that Halak is a better goalie than Nabokov. Halak isn't surrounded by many all-stars in Montreal and he plays incredible at times. His performance against the Russians was incredible. To beat Miller, Canada has to go for the traffic goals. Park a man in front of the net and hope Miller doesn't see it. If he sees it, he'll stop it. For the US, they need to come with an aggressive forecheck all game. When you saw Slovakia really press the Canadians in a high-pressure situation like a one-goal lead, they began to come unglued. It took a save from Luongo to make sure it didn't go to OT.

The Koreans felt especially screwed in their 4x1000 race I believe. The girl tapped blades with another and the whole team was DQed. That's the problem with the sport. It's an event almost designed for contact yet the rules make contact a judgement call.

No one can outshine Miller...he is on another level right now. The only hope we have is maybe we can convince Team Canada to wear Ottawa Senator jerseys since Miller always seems to struggle against them.

He's somewhat right though... If the men were to do the exact same celebration and there were pictures of an 18-year-old MALE player drinking a beer (like say Drew Doughty) would there be any issue with it whatsoever? There is no problem here, the US team and the fans had gone home and apparently this has been an Olympic tradition for years now (celebrating on the ice with family and friends). I have a hard time seeing what anyone find offensive of this. My personal fav was watching some people question the fact that they are role models for young girls and this behavior is unbecoming....get a life!

I am just so freakin' pumped for this game! You have the upstart Yanks who have unarguably the greatest goalie in the tourney in Miller versus a Canadian team that FINALLY seems to be gelling after a horrible start. I still contest that losing to the Americans in the pre-lim was the best thing to happen to Canada. It gave them an extra game to work on things and gave them added motivation to play better (the gold medal rematch). To the canuck fans, should we be worried that Crosby hasn't put up a single point in the quarter and semi-final games? I mean, when is this guy going to step up and really be a factor? I hope he's saving his best game against the US. And goaltending...that first goal Luongo let it worried me. This guy has a rep (fair or not) of coming up short in big games. Come on Bobby, time to match Miller....PLEASE! The one thing I wonder is if this game does anything for the game of hockey in the long run? How can the NHL capitalize on this coverage to expand the presence of this great game?

Really...this is the US attitude that Canadians find really annoying. As a nation, Canada has always fought BY America's side and been their most loyal ally. Americans who claim "if it wasn't for us, Canada wouldn't be around." really grinds Canadians gears. Last I checked, Canada has never been invaded and hasn't needed the US to fight its wars for them. Don't let a hockey game for a piece of metal bring out the worst in you, regardless of what country you're from. The Canadians chanting F*** USA after the game are the same drunk morons who boo the Canadian anthem like Boston fans did last year during the playoffs. Every nation has morons, don't let them paint the picture of what a country is. Now, back to the actual game....I was one of the few who actually said it was going to be a Canada-US final. Miller is too good a goalie right now and the US is a well-rounded team. That being said, I think the US beating Canada was the best thing that could have had to them. To be beaten on home ice hurt their feelings and it gave them an extra game to work on their team chemistry. Honestly, the most impressive team to me in this tourney was the Swiss.

I'm sure many people would love to be in Vancouver (heck, I lived there, I know its gorgeous....and expensive) but that's the beauty of television, it can take you places you otherwise can't get to. Ask yourself this, would you be happy if they tape-delayed the Super Bowl? It happens every year...you could just buy a ticket... The beauty of the Olympics is the feel of watching someone win Gold live...it's the fact that you're a part of the moment and it feels like you're experiencing this great moment with them. Maybe it's just me, but I love LIVE events, never been a fan of PVRing a sporting event. Too much technology around to ruin the moment. There's something to be said about leaping out of your couch when the OT winner is scored and knowing that your fellow fans are doing the same as you at that period of time.

I gather this man is much more important than the young American athletes who have dedicated their lives to representing their country on the international stage, as this press meeting even pre-empted the Olympic games....

You've achieved the pinnacle of your sport, you're on cloud 9, feeling great, then this maroon comes over and asks you immediately after you've won: "So who are you and what did you just do?" It's straight up ignorant.

It's just part of the bigger problem. Many people are upset with NBC for their lousy, tape-delayed coverage of the Winter games. I mean, the games are in the same time zone as the West Coast. This isn't Turin. In the age of the internet, it's just ignorant of NBC to assume that people will watch tape-delayed coverage. Americans didn't even get to see Lindsey Vonn win the Gold live. I mean COME ON!!!

I hear the coverage by NBC is just terrible. I feel for the fans of the games in the US. In Canada, we've got EIGHT high def channels carrying each and every event live as it happens. Essentially ESPN in Canada (TSN), TSN2, the four Sportsnet Channels and CTV along with NBC's lousy coverage. Props to Sven Kramer. He is the top long track speed skater in the world and this stupid reporter tries to ruin his moment. Of course, that moron would have done it to Shoni Davis too.
