  1. Pretty bad, Edwards looked bad too, defensive pressure was bad. Teams still run at Kelsay pretty sucessfully. Needless to say there is still work to do. I would be stoked if I was a Packer fan; Rogers looks real impressive.
  2. I think Sal has some realistic concerns in that blog. Teams will run at Ellison until he can win at the point of attack, likely not gonna happen. Checkdowns will be a problem if TE gets happy feet like last year. I have never been a Sal fan but I liked that blog.
  3. Then explain Jauron's losing at Chicago and Detroit. Buffalo is not his first job. And five Bills caught passes that night vs Cleveland and I recall Jaws commenting about how open receivers were down the field and TE checked down. Does everyone remember when Belichick coached the Browns? Where was his superior football genius back then? It was riding the pine, unnoticed amongst the throng of sub-average players. From 1991-1995 the Browns under BB were 36-44. Ironically, if you extrapolate one more 7-9 Bills season over a similar five year span, you end up with almost identical records of 35-45. But yea, blame the coaches, since every ounce of logic and reason, not to mention empirical evidence, suggests that good coaching can compensate for bad playing.
  4. I am pretty sure most wins in the NFL are not by 2 or 3 touchdowns but rather decided by 7 points or less where coaching decisions make a difference. The last second FG attempt vs a terrible Cleveland team that fired its coach was a settled for long FG when we had a first down and time to get closer. I am not sure how such a decision that failed would make perfect sense. Losing to a SF team that also fired its coach, used its 3rd QB beat Buffalo at home when they hardly had any first downs. I am pretty sure it was a coaching decision that had JP Losman rolling out against the Jets when the game was won. I simply don't get your logic. The logic here doesn't make any sense. On the other hand, until you can be up by 2-3 scores late in the game, it makes perfect sense to play to win on a last second FG. Can someone justify the reasoning behind the continuing complaints with any argument that has more substance than "we should have won game X"?
  5. I am not too sure Coughlin changed all that much. I see no way that Jauron changes, TO's will be wasted and FG's will be the rage. Hopefully, we win despite him.
  6. Steve's Pig and Ox is outstanding!!!
  7. Rice was more consistant, never dropped as many passes. Both are pretty damn good but Rice was the best.
  8. Entertaining announcer as well.
  9. I have read comments like this here before. Absolutley don't get it. DiGeorgio makes a lot of plays and better than given credit for around here. My hunch is Bowen wins that spot but DiGi plays plenty.
  10. He is a great coach. I am shocked it is even in question. No likes him but his record speaks for itself.
  11. You just defined a message board= all talk and hope. That's why we come here.
  12. We'll never know until they go live but I agree completely. Toughness is a constant with the selections. I like that Byrd had 200+ tackles as a cb in a tough conference. Harris is a sure tackler as well. I don't expect Harris to start but he can add some toughness to special teams. I expect Bowen to emerge as the OLB. Pull up a youtube of Bowen at Iowa St. before he was hurt. He is one tough tackler as well. Ellison is a poor tackler who gets targeted in the run game. Just moving Ellison and Simpson off the field improves the defense. I like the toughness of Hangman, Wood and Levitre. Maybe we could actually convert a third and 1. Butler and Walker worry me on the outside as pass blockers. You know speed rushers like Joey Porter are going to be a challenge. This draft is a step in the right direction even if we need another one like it in 2010. The light finally went on in Orchard Park.
  13. Agree completely. He simply doesn't get the job done. It's a bottom line business and he loses too much to be considered "underrated".
  14. I love this pick. Harris is a great tackler which is what we need. Too many whiffs by Ellison.
  15. My take on Ellis last year is the speed of the game ovewhelmed him which is not uncommon for a rookie. VT just sends their front 7 players upfield year after year and they get by on athletic ability. The NFL is complicated and Ellis looked to be slow to react last year. I bet a year of being exposed to the game will help him in 09.
  16. Experience definitely helps, I think these OLine picks will help for the long term, in the short term, probably good enough for 7-9 to 9-7.
  17. I find Bill to be one of the smartest posters on this forum. I look forward to reading his comments. He clearly understands the game. Jauron has coached 8 NFL seasons and is well under .500 as a coach. The pieces to compete? Expand on that, what is lacking ? Because I have seen many so called inferior teams win games due to good coaching. Look to the 2008 Miami Dolphins coming off a 1 win season in 2007. The coach melded together the pieces he had to work with and they won. How about the hapless 49ers last year that beat Buffalo on their home field with a new coach, they apparently had the right pieces to compete that day. The Browns who also fired their coach beat Buffalo at home with an inexerienced QB. Somehow this team that drafted in the top 5 found the right pieces to compete against Jauron's team. Juaron's teams fall apart with turnovers, dropped passes, non challenged plays, wasted timeouts, conserative fg attempts which are coaching decisions. Bill is right, Jauron is a lousy head coach; nice guy or not.
  18. Hangarthner should start. I thought he got a pretty good contract for a backup. He is being paid to start. It's a welcome problem to have too many guys at C and G.
  19. I saw it on a PSU Message board, also said DE Evans went to Giants
