  1. His biggest problem is he cannot contribute to special teams on top of his one move pass rushing. Baring a miracle, he is done.
  2. I am elated that Dareus is a Bill and bet Buddy is happy he did not have to make that call on Newton.
  3. Rudolph has great hands and I am a big fan and would have loved to see him on the Bills. Reality: Rudolph has health concerns as he tore his hamstraing from the bone last year along with the injuries from the prior year. He is not a blocker at this point. I think Buddy and Chan figured this was a Free Agency position where one addtional tight end can supplement or replace Chandler, Stupar and Nelson.
  4. Ourlads rated him a second round pick and the best inside linebacker. Not sure why he is being passed over other than the hamstring problem.
  5. Ourlad's take: Makes plays as a safety and a punt returner. Good football intelligence and athletic ability. Long arms for a safety. Excellent in run support. A tough and aggressive hitter. Loves the contact. Put up 225 27 times at the combine.
  6. Based on the clips I saw, I would be concerned about picking Newton, the Auburn offense seemed pretty elementary compared to the pro game. Mallett was pretty impressive. Call him a head case, slow footed, etc. Bottom line, the guy makes the big time throws required by NFL quarterbacks. If Mallett miraculously falls to round 2, I say take him.
  7. Might not be just strength training. Maybin does not play with his hands to avoid getting locked up by the OT. Maybe his footwork is shoddy and he doesn't take steps to improve that. I see a total lack of identifying plays, running right by the ball. A pass rusher should have a sense to bat a ball down on a short drop which Maybin has never shown. A good DE stuides his opponents, recognizes tendencies, recognizes formations. All and all, does Maybin play with any competiveness. I have a sense Maybin's issues are not just weight room related.
  8. The Bills defense gave up more 20+ yard running plays than any team in the league and had the worst stop percentages in short yeardage situations. The embarrassing manner that NE and NY carved up the Bills running the ball in December should be a lasting image. Danny Woodhead looks like Gale Sayers against the Bills. They additions of Merriman and Batten might help but we still need a DE that can slow down a running play and not be blocked one on one by a TE. I would pick one of the DL like Dareus or Jordan and get a LB who wraps up in on of my top 100 picks. If the right QB is there at 2 take a shot but I would rather see a TE like Rudolph taken #2 or an OT if one os the good ones slides (not likely).
  9. Great job. Would take a LB or DT rather than a young QB in second as well.
  10. Cullen Jenkins of GB would be nice. How about Zack Miller of Oakland or Kevin Boss? Dhani Kones of Cinci avgs over 100 tackles a year, how about him? Maybe Ralph should just pocket the money instead.
  11. I hope they don't take a QB at all if they don't do it in the first round. Get the run defense improved and get a real ROT and TE.
  12. Stroud was easily taken out of runs plays last year. To his credit, he was not blocked by the TE like Kelsay. NE is going to pay him a lot less to be a rotation guy than the star pay he got in Buffalo. My issue is Littman and Ralph will not take the salary and pick up another starter.
  13. I think the guy's a great football player. Aside from the combine numbers and less than ideal measurables,he simply makes plays. I am guessing he will be devalued because Michigan's defense was so horrible, might be a good depth/special teams guy. Would not be upset at all burning a later pick on him.
  14. Chan being an offensive coach makes drafting a QB a possibility. His comments about the spread being the coming trend and his past success with Kordell Stewart makes me think he would take Cam Newton and groom him. If Ralph spends some money on two starter type FA's I say go for it. History says Ralph and Littman spend peanuts on B level FA's instead. Drafting one of the DL and a Martez Wilson in round 2 would not upset me at all.
  15. Jonathon Scott did ok as a run blocker for Pittsburgh. They run a lot so it did not expose his off balance pass blocking. He was hardly horrible in the games I saw. Certainly better than Cornell Green.
  16. I would have a hard time giing him a lot of money. Then again,if he only played 3 games he would be more productive than Maybin and McCargo.
  17. Like it a lot. Picks 2 and 3 are solid players. Like Quan a lot. Newton is growing on me as well.
  18. I am wide awake. Rex Ryan is known for his blitz packages which are there to pressure the passer. Passes come out faster, timing is thrown off. Sacks are not the only measure of defense. The Bills need to "pressure the passer" and stop the run with a better talent level up front before they add DB's.
  19. Every cornerback Revis included can be exposed when there is no pass rush. And he better be a good run defender because teams run all day on this defense. We have other needs that are more immediate. If Ralph spent some of his Toronto profits on some Free Agents, I am all for luxury picks.
  20. Well I thought we drafted last year on the premise that we were converting to a 3-4. Merriman was signed and his background is 3-4. On the flip we extended Kelsay who can only contribute in a 4-3. Poz cannot play middle in a 4-3 so he must be out if we go that way. It appears much like our hybrid defense we have a hybrid front office that picks up players that fit both systems yet never has enough good players to be good at either.
  21. Well they seem behind the wave on having a front seven in place to play run defense to compete with the Jets and Patriots. Behind the wave on having a competent OLine. Behind the wave on having a TE who can run block and exploit the middle of the field. The wave I would pay attention to is the two physical teams playing next Sunday. The physical football wave has produced champions for 40+ years.
  22. Oz nailed it. Pack drafts very well and grabs an occassional FA, not the street free agents or the Cornell Green level.
  23. Urlacher is one of the best linebackers in the game and has been for years. Poz should never be in the same conversation.
  24. Go with size and strength early, worry about speed later. A mean attitude works as well. Fairley, Bowers or Dareus have to be the selection unless we trade back. Enough with the speed guys and the projections.
