  1. I think safety has to be a consideration. Wilson is slipping and Byrd may be gone. I like Searcy but he seems to have limitations.
  2. I can respect Fitz for this comment http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/extra_points/2012/11/fitzpatrick_on.html?comments=all#comments
  3. Matt Moore is better than Fitzy. He throws a nice deep ball. He isn't going to win a Super Bowl for you but he can throw more than 15 yards which is a start. Moore was great against Buffalo last year in December for Miami. Personally, I say give up what you need to get one of the top guys. Buddy will have to go against type and trade up.
  4. Assuming Ralph is still with us, a retread is likely. Herm Edwards, Marty Morningwhig and Dave Campo fit the MO. If we have to go with experience, I would love to see a second chance type guy that is younger like a Jack Del Rio or Steve Spagnola.
  5. Article illustrates the lack of blitzing by Wanny's D. The following excerpts from an article on new Packers' coordinator Jim Bates offer valuable insights into Wannstedt's defensive philosophy since Bates worked for both Wannstedt and Johnson: The essence of Johnson's philosophy was speed, speed and more speed. He wanted waves of penetrating defensive linemen to fit a one-gap scheme and rotate constantly. He wanted fast linebackers regardless of size at linebacker. And he wanted smart defensive backs that wouldn't make mistakes in a "quarters" or Cover 2 coverage scheme. Those great Dallas front sevens were among the smallest in the NFL but they chased all over the field and gave great effort. Johnson's system started with a 4-3 "over" front in which the under, or three-technique, defensive tackle lined up to the tight-end side and all three linebackers were stacked off the ball. Cornerbacks Larry Brown and Issiac Holt lacked bump-and-run coverage ability in the early 1990s so Johnson had to play them off in "quarters" coverage. The Cowboys' safeties lined up at the same shallow depth of just eight to 10 yards, almost creating a nine-man front and positioning them to jump routes and make interceptions. When run showed, one safety would force and the other would rotate to the deep middle. "We never had corners in Dallas," Wannstedt said. "They weren't even close to Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain, who are as good as there is. Even in Chicago we were always on the conservative side with our corners only because of ability level." Generally speaking, the defenses that Bates was associated with over the last nine years were able to press with their cornerbacks within a "quarters" or Cover 2 zone coverage scheme. "You can't blitz without corners," Wannstedt said. "Everyone knows that. It's common sense. I don't know what Green Bay's situation is but I'm sure that will be one of the first things Jim will have to address. "Let's not make more of this than what it is. It depends on how good your players are that determines what you can do." Still, the objective is to limit blitzing to maybe 20%, stress third down and play smart. "Our mental mistakes were minimal," Wannstedt said. "That was always a focus. Our philosophy always was that we will execute our system better than your offense plays. People around the NFL always said that we did less than most teams but we'd always do it better." http://bluegraysky.blogspot.com/2005/07/know-thine-enemy-dave-wannstedt.html
  6. Bullfrog's Sports Cafe 33137 Center Ridge Road in the Clevleand suburb of North Ridgeville, OH http://bullfrogssportscafe.com/ owned by a Western NY family and will be populated with Bills fans all weekend.
  7. The 2012 Super Bowl Champion NY Giants lost their first preseason game last year to the Carolina Panthers and their # pick Cam Newton by a score of 20-10. Things worked out ok for them.
  8. Buddy will be loyal to Florence. McGee ends up on IR a lot so cannot depend on him. Leo is contract year so I doubt they cut him. Maybe they keep em all.
  9. I have watched clips of all three and keep coming back to Cordy Glenn. Big and strong and played very well in the best conference in country. If Floyd is gone, I think he is Buddy's guy.
  10. I think Floyd is perfect for Chan's offense as Kelly ran the spread at ND. He is big, physical, can run after catch. Jeffrey is big and strong as well. Intriguing thought. It's hard to depend on Easley. After making the initial run at Robert Meachum, it's pretty obvious a big receiver is on the menu for Buddy. My fear is Floyd will be gone before the Bills pick.
  11. Aren't you concerned about Reiff's underage drinking and resisting arrest charges from 2 years ago? Floyd isn't the only draftee with a history to overcome.
  12. I love Hightower. All he does is make plays. Buddy is an SEC guy, maybe he is there in 2nd round.
  13. I am so fed up, I would like them to give up a couple of number 1's and whatever else for Luck. Enough with the stop gaps. Get the sure thing.
  14. Well done and accurate. Neither can throw the deep ball. Difference is Deberg "managed" the game while Fitz is a gunslinger. Amazes me that every third and short Chan dials up the long ball that is a low percentage throw for Fitz.
  15. Bravo !!!! This is the best draft related post I have ever read on this site. I can only hope your interpretation is accurate. I think Barkley and Griffin are both better than Gabbert, McCoy, Jimmy Clausen and a few others we passed on the last few years. Both buy pocket time with their feet and keep their eyes downfield and deliver great throws. Both have to be strongly considered if available whem Buffalo picks despite glaring needs elsewhere. Thereafter, think front 7 and big.
  16. Last year in AFC title game Pittsburgh used two TE offense against Jets and went toe to toe with them. They even put a third offensive tackle at TE a few series. NE does it as well to neutralize Ryan's overloaded blitz packages. I wonder if Chan would ever put Lee Smith and Chandler on the field with McIntyre and pound the ball even for a series. I am having a hard time thinking the spread offense is exclusively going to work against NY Sunday.
  17. Caught this remembrence at the Mississippi St. site Never heard this before but thought it spoke volumes about #67. RIP His fellow players regard Hull as a great teammate and he revealed a piece of that legend in the locker room after their first Super Bowl loss, a 20-19 defeat by the New York Giants. A last second 47-yard field goal attempt by Bills kicker Scott Norwood went wide right as time expired. “I’m getting ready to leave the locker room and there’s Scott Norwood sitting there, still in his uniform,” he says. “I went over there and said ‘take your stuff off and get over there in the shower.’ And he’s all upset. I said, ‘Scott, let me tell you something. Had I done my job better, that 47-yard field goal might have been a 33- or 37-yard field goal. Now you go get in the shower.’ And I waited till he got dressed and we left together.”
  18. Big difference in the game was pass rush in the first half made Dalton uncomfortable and he made mistakes. Second half was a different story as Cinci kept in a lot of blockers and Dalton bought time with his feet making some good plays along the sideline scrambling to his right. Tackling was terrible as well. Lotta guys leaving their feet and tackling air. Offensively, Fitzy looked completely uncomfortable in the pocket throwing sooner than he had too many times. Call on Stevie Johnson's third down catch was huge as was the spot on 3rd and 1 in a close game. Spread offense drew a lot of middle blizes and the running plays between the tackles went right into the pile. Cinci was better than expected but a break or two and the Bills could be 4-0.
  19. I think the beneficiaries of his play are Dwan Edwards and Chris Kelsay along with the 2 inside lb's. Dareus is the highest impact Bill's rookie in years.
  20. The Giants beat them in the Super Bowl by beating them with the front four and changing up the coverages. If we sit in the same base defense all day, Brady will pick it apart. I would crowd the middle of the field where Brady's accuracy is incredible and make him throw to the sidelines. And if Danny Woodhead is standing next to him in the shotgun, expect the draw. He killed the Bills last year with that play.
  21. Carrington was quite impressive. He will be tough to keep out of the lineup.
  22. The lack of planning was obvious on Denver's second scoring drive. Orton took them down the field with a series of short drops, one play even one step drop and picked up big yards along with quick snapping the Bills before the defense was set on the same drive. Buffalo would see that on film and be ready in a regular season game. The defense does not concerm me as much as the offense. Fitzpatrick has not been accurate, receivers drop balls when he is and Bell's ugly performance is going to get the QB killed. Based on what the wr's showed the other night, I cannot see the logic in casting off Lee Evans for a 4th rounder.
  23. Bills - Jerry Butler, John Davis Others- Tony Boselli- Hall of Fame was likely Bo Jackson was a good call earlier
  24. I am not writing off Florence at this point, he has the SD connection with Buddy. McGee has done nothing for 2 seasons. One common thread in the picks for the back 7 was good tacklers.
