There is utopianism on both sides of the spectrum - the failing of the capitalist model seems to me to be that there are no efficient markets to protect a shared ecosystem. (pollution credits have been one idea, but that requires regulation.)
There was an interesting article by Fareed Zakaria this week that suggests
that the greater conflict may not shape up to be Islam vs. the West but
Islam vs. Islam.
It's worth a look:

actually the piece was stupidly titled - the writer does not have much control over the headline
and the piece does not address any connection between a war toll and the shape of advertising
other than an opening insinuation.
Also there is no corroborating interviews with the folks that made the commercials to see if
Iraq is what they had in mind.
It is sloppy editing for their business section.
I just watched it on tape.
Doing a mash up of Dylan and the Foo Fighters was pretty cool,
and doing Purple Rain in the Rain actually had me wondering if he
was performing under sprinklers or something.
He was pretty good, which makes him great in a slot that is usually
a suck-fest.
"Snoopy come Home" was a masterful blend of loss and ennui. We are manipulated by the
proposition that our pets could have loved some anonymous owner equally.
It filled me with a Sartesian sense of detachment.
I am just puzzled about what pdh1 means, should we be upset with the verdict?
Who is going to have a riot?
White folks because one did not get a hate crime conviction,
or black folks because the verdict was unjust?
Now that I have taken the time to read it, I am just curious because I can't figure out his point.
He's kind of sexy for a man his age, though.
Like Sean Connery, but from Tennessee, and with longer sentences, and whiter.
And his daughter wrote the first 3 seasons of Futurama.
(okay those were the sucky ones, but still)
Gomez Adams:
We are the luckiest
brothers on Earth.
We are unworthy
of such splendor,
undeserving
of such radiance.
Uncle Fester:
Uh, that's right.
We should have...
ugly girls.
