  1. 9/11? The USA PATRIOT Act was passed at the height of the 2001 Anthrax attacks.
  2. Note: this is not a nuclear war. It is not a zombie apocalypse. Basic services, particularly those pushed to your house, are very unlikely to be disrupted. Such as water. You will have tap water. If your water service is disrupted, you will have warning, and you will have many other, greater problems to deal with before your water service stops. So for God's sake, you ***** morons, you will not run out of tap water, so DO NOT KILL PEOPLE OVER BOTTLED WATER.
  3. Use it. Go out in public, blackmail people. "Gimme your toilet paper, or I'll cough on you."
  4. Some places around here are banning the use of re-usable bags because "they spread coronavirus." Since ***** WEDNESDAY!!!
  5. I'm rejoicing. I'm not a basketball fan, but I find college ball at least watchable. The NBA I can't tolerate. But NASCAR...where the hell am I going to go to watch cars turning left?
  6. I went two weeks ago, stocked up for two months. Not because I'm afraid of the virus (I'm not), but precisely because I was afraid of people, when they started paying attention. I honestly didn't think it would be the NBA suspending play that would precipitate this panic, though. Ye Gods, people are ***** idiots. I've actually found myself hoping this virus kills me, so I don't have to deal with any of these mutton-heads anymore.
  7. I have stopped touching my face these past few days. However, to make up for it, I am touching other people's faces much, much more frequently.
  8. After the 1993 hantavirus outbreak in the Southwest, CDC named the virus the "Sin Nombre virus." Literally, "no name virus." Because to name it the Canyon del Muerto Virus was considered racist (to the Navajo.) Had no problem naming another hantavirus the "Prospect Hill virus," though. Because no one gives a ***** about Baltimore. "Wuhan virus" is perfectly acceptable to anyone with half a brain who's not trying to invent a false controversy. But I'll stick with "COVID," or "Kung Flu" if I want to piss people off.
  9. Meaningless. If it's spreading in NYC, it's in North Jersey, Connecticut, and the lower Hudson Valley. That's five - at least - different health departments responsible for one outbreak.
  10. You have not seen morbidity rates ranging 1-3%. You have seen mortality rates ranging 0.4-6%. "Morbidity" and "mortality" are two completely different things. So shut the ***** up until you know what you're talking about, moron.
  11. They're presumptive - there's a mathematical model that describes the spread pretty well (seen it on Twitter, only Japan doesn't fit.) Odds are, there's probably a lot more people in the US that have the virus than have been tested for it. Also means the odds are it's doesn't cause serious illness in most people. Gets back to what I said earlier: I haven't seen any number - not just a reliable number, but even a wild guess - as to the morbidity of COVID-19. Either no one knows, or no one's telling. South Korea's epidemiological numbers are probably the most accurate, since they did the broadest and most aggressive testing. The US numbers are probably least accurate. And don't ask me what's going on with Italy.
  12. Three months I've been tracking this. Since two weeks before this thread started. Still haven't found a single number, reliable or otherwise, for the morbidity rate of nCOVID-19. It's ridiculous. The mortality rate varies only by how much testing a country does - more testing, less deaths. That's a clear indication that no one has any ***** idea what's going on. I hit Costo two weeks ago for non-perishables, figuring everyone was about to go nuts over this. And a couple weeks ago, someone asked me if they should take their planned trip to Costa Rica last week. I said "Sure, you'll be fine. It'll be the week of the 13th that the ***** hits the fan." I mention that only because my predictions have nailed all of this so far. So I'll make this prediction: this will all start to unwind and get back to normal probably just after Easter. Mostly, this is not nearly as big a crisis as people are acting. It's a big problem for the elderly, infirm, and immunocompromised, which is no small thing - I'm self-quarantined since yesterday, because my sister-in-law who lives with us has COPD, and if I bring the Kung Flu home, I probably get a bad cold, but it will kill her. But other than that, and supply chain disruption (i.e. groceries, gasoline)...in a year, we're likely to look back on this and snicker at the overreaction.
  13. The best part is hearing them complain "Trump is a dictator!" for three years, then in the space of a week do a complete 180 to "Trump isn't enough of a dictator!"
  14. Yeah, that whole "smart virus" thing and "tree branch" analogy was very scientific. You're ***** ignorant. Stop pretending you know what you're talking about.
  15. Bloody hell, you're a ***** baboon. That is all.
  16. And for my last post, you're all ***** idiots.
  17. That was a damn nice throw by Watson.
  18. What the *****? I go get a haircut, I leave the barber and it's 24-7. I get home, and it's 28-24?
  19. Sirius Deep Tracks (channel 29, in my car at least) seems to be playing all Rush this weekend, which is nice.
  20. The missiles Iran used have an error in aiming of +/- 500 yards. Meaning that when they're launched the safest place to be is pretty much where they're aimed.
  21. Still better than Olympus Has Fallen. Ooof. That's a Decade Volcano. That's not good.
  22. Could hear some from the stadiums, too. Not just Tom Sawyer, which isn't uncommon.
