  1. "Fun" fact: In 1912, there were 374 cases of lung cancer reported worldwide. In 1917, free cigarettes are included in US rations (through the "generosity" of the tobacco companies) in the rations of US troops going to Europe. In 1925, there are roughly 5000 cases of lung cancer reported in the US alone. In the 1920s, the lung cancer epidemic from cigarettes was about as big a crisis as the AIDS epidemic was in the 80s.
  2. Doesn't really matter. A country whose leaders strong-arm other countries for domestic political purposes is the country we've lived in for 30 years, whether you like it or not. It's not even that we're a banana republic, as much as we still treat the rest of the world as though they are.
  3. Secondhand smoke is also 2000 times less concentrated than inhaled smoke.
  4. Literally, they've created a robot that can dance on our graves.
  5. At this point I'd vote for genuine and good person. I could probably tolerate her presidency, as she's not a congenital idiot. But she'd have to run as an independent. I won't support the Democratic party.
  6. If the Bills win this weekend, they will enter the top ten in all the power rankings...but still be behind New England at #1.
  7. Got to get one of those for the cats... Why does Phil Collins have braids, why does David Lynch have a pitchfork, and when in the '80s did they pose together for this?
  8. Too expensive? What's the latest cost estimate for the Green New Deal again?
  9. I'll do you one better: it's illegal for the President to influence a foreign country to restart an investigation that was influenced by the previous Vice President to stop the same investigation.
  10. I thought Arya killed him after feeding him Black Walder and Lothar.
  11. No, the proper title is "Published Pedantic Supercilious Anal Orifice."
  12. Oooooh, a big city. Now I'm really impressed.
  13. He's an adjunct professor of civil law at his local community college. You think he has the "legal skills" to understand that?
  14. I want to know how he knows how much I make?
  15. The adjunct professor is criticizing the professional writer's writing. That's...not the least bit amazing, simple to be expected on the internet, actually.
  16. Someone forgot to tell Biden: you never go full gatorman.
  17. Easily. It's marvelous direction and cinematography, putting you right in the action instead of watching it from outside. I've heard where the sequence at 6:20, with Val Kilmer reloading, has been used in training riflemen (although mostly in the sense of "Look, this Hollywood actor can do it right. So can you.") It's a tribute to the training the actors went through - and the blocking and direction - that they got so many little details so right. Too many actors and filmmakers forget that today: get the littlest details right, it makes the viewer part of the story and holds them there. The moment you miss a detail, it knocks the viewer out of the story and makes them an observer.
  18. Awards are discriminatory. The Emmys are a tool of cis-patriarchial oppression.
  19. So from "a professor at a top 20 school" to "adjunct at my local college?" Yeah, you're not completely full of *****.
  20. Video of the "bank fraud" in progress...
  21. But you're not most lawyers. You're a professor at a top-20 school. Probably Harvard Law. No one else is this full of themselves.
