  1. What's this about is that they're using the presumption of corruption to prove corruption. At most, it's ambiguous. I read the transcript, and it sounds just as plausible that Trump is simply changing the subject. And yes, I'd say the same if that were Obama or Clinton on the transcript. It could be coercion...but it's ridiculous to make an affirmative assertion that it is based solely on the transcript. Seriously. It wasn't a strong case to begin with. "Australia, too!" is makes it ridiculous. By what theory is Trump coercing Australia in to digging up Ukrainian dirt on Biden? Or are we back to "hiding calls on a classified server" again? Which makes that action much more understandable, if Trump is enlisting allied aid in investigating an intelligence matter concerning the 2016 election - which also explains the ICIG's oversight.
  2. Light curves, spectral analysis, doppler broadening. Nowadays, one platform detects something interesting, and multiple platforms focus on it. So you get simultaneous observations across a wide spectrum of radiation (radio waves to x-rays - visible light is arguably the least useful these days.) Then you start looking for emission and absorption lines in that spectrum - stellar hydrogen absorption lines are at 600, 480, and 435 nm, for example. So you find those, and let's say they're shifted slightly lower - 599, 479, and 434, for the sake of discussion. That means the wavelengths are blue-shifted, so the relative velocity of the object is towards you. But say, instead, they're broad - instead of a sharp line at 435 nm, you've got a diffuse one spread out from 433 to 437 nm. That indicates something is moving towards AND away from you.. Then look for other emission and absorption lines. Say you have strong emission lines for helium and nitrogen, for example, along with the above broad hydrogen absorption lines. That would indicate a stellar core exposed (or partially exposed) by the removal of the atmosphere of the star (which is moving fast, in all directions, as shown by the broadening.) Further observation shows you the evolving accretion disk (a significantly different spectrum from a star) and probably x-ray emissions from the black hole. From there, do lots of math, and you can figure out the nature of the motion, and discern what's going on. Generally, that's how you do it. The specifics in this case...I'd have to read the paper, and to be perfectly honest, I don't want to. As cool as "star being ripped apart by a black hole" sounds, I always found that sort of observational analysis to be rather boring.
  3. I read the title, and decided to avoid it like the plague. No way that thread was going to end well.
  4. Seriously, if your theory is that Trump was using his federal authority to coerce the Ukraine to dig up dirt on Biden, Barr's trip to Australia weakens that by showing there was an investigation far wider than "Biden" and "Ukraine" going on. You all are really too stupid to understand that? This disproves your theory of the crime.
  5. Old story: "White boys attack classmate and cut off her dreadlocks at school where Mike Pence's wife teaches." New story: "Fear of racism forces girl to cut off her dreadlocks at school where Mike Pence's wife teaches."
  6. It really needs John Belushi as a "Samurai Candidate," though. Or even a classic Conehead.
  7. Of course not. It was a quo pro quid. Completely different.
  8. Wow. How badly do you have to ***** up to resign from Congress over insider trading?
  9. Yes. But YOU'RE the rabble, you idiot.
  10. "Asks about the Javelins?" He states that the Ukraine is "almost ready to buy more Javelins."
  11. So Trump should have beee immune from investigation into his real estate dealings in Moscow the moment he announced his candidacy and became a political opponent of Obama? Get the ***** out of here.
  12. That's funny. You think standards are the same for Democratic and Republican Presidents.
  13. Good. Jonathon Jones, on the other hand, is probably getting a letter of commendation from Goodell for his good sportsmanship.
  14. That's what "All I need is a pen and a phone" means, asshat.
  15. You joke, but states will be banning them soon. CA and MD are already laying the groundwork.
  16. Go suck your Tom Brady blow-up doll's uggs.
  17. As I recall, DoD public relations never went out of their way to correct Baghdad Bob, either. Some nonsense, you just don't address, because you just add credibility if you do.
  18. Looks bad? It would be a catastrophe. Houthis are claiming to have taken a fifth the Saudi Army off the board, and as many as a third of their AFVs. That's ridiculous. At best, Houthis are exaggerating wildly.
  19. Yeah, but if you did hand it to him, he'd just drop it.
  20. That's not a definite indicator of being knocked out, though. Kirk Cousins, for example, loses control of all physical functions when he's complete conscious. Actually, he wasn't, which was the problem. He was being held upright, which allowed the NE player to tee off on him.
  21. I'm still seriously ***** pissed about that offsetting holding/trying to klll a QB call. Even if they win this game, that's going to stick in my craw for a while.
