Say what you will about Ralph Wilson...
apuszczalowski replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How do we know they can't support a $50 mil payroll? Have you seen their books? You saw what having a cup contender did for them. 2 straight years of ECF's lead to 2 straight years of selling out the arena and creating a waiting list for season tickets. They could have kept out of the financial problems they have by being pro-active and signing players before the last minute. Right after the lockout they were only giving 1 year contracts, wanting to see the players develop to make sure they are going to be good. That is not a way to build a successful team if you are as cash strapped as everyone says. You won't get players to sign for less after they have shown what they can do, you also aren't going to attract many players if you aren't willing to go long term because most of all, players want security, knowing that they can buy a house and not have to sell it in a year or 2. If they can't keep up with the Salary cap, then maybe buffalo can't support an NHL team either (financially). Having an NHL franchise is not a right, its a luxury. -
Does trent have small hands?

You should know by now that you can't have a serious discussion about the QB position without it turning into a JP/Edwards pissing match and having the opposite sides faithful come in and try to beat you into oblivion becuase you apparently asked a retarded question and am just a homer for the other guy -
So the Bills will be going with 4 LBers now? They have 3 starters already that are pretty good, so unless this guy is already NFL ready and can step in immediatly and be a huge upgrade over our top LB from last season (Crowell), the LB we traded up to get last year (Poz), or the first FA signing they made this year (Mitchell) who they intend to have start, he will be depth. And didn't Bennett come in via trade and already had NFL experience??

And yet, Philly and the Rangers are both looking at Playoff spots, and Buffalo is fighting to make it in. Both of those teams did what they had to do to try and improve on the previous season, while the Sabres did what they had to do to make sure they wouldn't operate in the red (although most with try and rationalise it as the Sabres looking towards the future, like they always do) The point you make about Saying and doing is true to, but not exactly in this case. The Ryan Smyth deal at the deadline last year is more like what you are talking about. He cried about how he wanted to stay an Oiler, and yet the entire deal went down because of what is being reported as a $500,000 difference in price. Drury had his mind made up and was only comming back if the Rangers didn't make him an offer. The Sabres have been reported as saying they would match whatever the Rangers offered him, but he never gave them the chance. Briere said many times he wanted to stay, but the Sabres didn't negotiate with him (they were apparently too busy trying to convince Drury to stay). They offered him what he asked for before he went to arbitration 2 days before the opening of FA, and after he already said that he guessed the team wasn't seriously interested in him and would test the market. The offer the Sabres gave him was pretty much a "take it or leave it offer" and was a quick attempt to try and keep atleast one of the 2. Campbell had said before leaving that the offer the Sabres made money wise was what he was looking for, just not the length of the contract. The Sabres wanted 3 years, he wanted closer to 6. Sure sounds like he wasn't serious about wanting to stay a Sabre -
hmmm, putting the Bills against the Pats after the 'bye week again is bad enough, but then making them be the first real game they have to play after being embarrassed at the end of last year in the Super Bowl??? Now that would prove that a conspiracy is on with the NFL and Buffalo

Not as badly as they desperatly need play, akers on offence. The defence kept them in the majority of the games last year, and that was without Mitchell and Poz, and Stroud. The problem was the offence which hasn't been touched this offseason couldn't do anything when they had the ball and just gave it back to the defence to take care of.

So they should put it off until next year then? The hole at WR is a gapping one that needs to be addressed, there is no hole at the LB spot right now, they have 3 starters and decent depth right now. If they think Crowell is going to walk at the end of the year and I don't know why people assume that) then they can fix that next year. And if they had concerns over which Mitchell would show up this year, they probably wouldn't have signed him Taking a LB right now to basically be depth would be a luxury, when the team has a list of other needs in front of LB. So unless this LB can take pressure and coverage off of Evans, then its not going to matter and the Bills will continue to spin their wheels. They don't need someone to step in and be a #1 right away, they need someone to step in and be a #2, so why not grab someone witht he potential to be a #1 in a couple of years (since apparantly its a given that WR's always take 2 years to develop)

I have been saying that all along, I'm not pissed they let those players walk, thats fine if you couldn't re-sign them, but they did nothing to improve the team but hold a press conference telling us they won't be as good as last season, and bring in what was supposed to be an upgrade at back up goaltender -

What about this season? One of the reasons for brieres struggles was that he didn't have a consistent linemate until the deadline when they made the deal with Tampa, and now he has picked up his play -

It wouldn't be a problem, aslong as the pics of it don't end up plastered all over the internet and he isn't partying with Alcohol and girls who aren't old enough to drink -

they probably can't, thats why they haven't pressed any charges, but do you think its likely that the underage attendees at the party were doing Apple juice/Ginger Ale Funnels -

maybe thats what they do, but >21 with alcohol is illegal in most areas, so that could cause just a small problem. -

The problem with your arguement is that Golisano inherited the majority of the players on his roster. He didn't get an expansion franchise and make them a conference final team, he inherited most of them when he bought them. And yes, in 4 years making the ECF is good, but is it great when they are bookended with no playoff appearances? When was the last time the Red Wings missed the playoffs? The Devils? -

How come now they are a young team again? Because they aren't winning? the thought this offseason and some of last year was that they may be young in age, but the majority of the team is not young in experience as most have now been deep into the playoffs for 2 years. Now they look like they will miss the playoffs and they are a young team again, and injuries. They had injuries last year, and the year before too. The problem is they are lacking top level talent. They have a couple of guys who could become top level guys, but right now they are a team loaded with 2nd and 3rd level talent, mostly because they won't pay for top level talent -

ESPN: Bills plan to quicken pace, trust Edwards more
apuszczalowski replied to Lori's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt that, the offence was the same no matter who was the QB, and they have already named Edwards the clearcut starter -
You are right, thats Orlando, but still the same deal, around the area of the stadium they said the area is not a place you want to be hanging around without a crowd.
