For all you CSI fans this is a shocker.
apuszczalowski replied to K-Gun10's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I wouldn't say every show is like that (although alot do end up dead a few years after main cast members leave) but look at a show like Law and Order. How many main characters have came and went from that show (the original) and its still pretty good. It just depends on the writing and the actors the get to replace them. Sometimes it can help the show because it freshens things up a bit and can add new story ideas. -
It doesn't matter what I believe, you are making a complete assumption that they have even discussed numbers and that the Bills and Parker are only at odds over the figures in the deal. Who said they even talked numbers? Its only been said they have had brief conversations and that the teams policy is to not negotiate unless the player reports. Of course its possible. Its also remotely possible that Peters is holding out because he wants an extra piece of steak after workouts, and for them to stock purple gatorade on the field too. I'm not denying that Parker may have told them what he is looking for, but that is all unknown to anyone at this point, so you are only assuming its true because it makes the most sense to you
-
I never said that they have had absolutly no contact, but just because they said he has had some brief discussions with Brandon, that doesn't mean much. Brief discussion could be something like this Parker - "So, my client Jason Peters wants more money" Brandon - "Oh really. Ok, tell him we will talk when he reports to camp" Parker - "Sorry, my client won't show up to camp until he has a new deal" Brandon - "Well we would really like to see him repeat his play at the same level as last year, and that he is 100% recovered from his injury before give him more money" Parker - "Well he will not come in until he has a new deal, my client is one of the better LT's in the league and deserves to be paid like it. He is not going to risk another injury and come in until he gets a new deal" Brandon - "Well your client still has 3 years on a deal he just signed a few years ago. Our policy here is not to negotiate with players who chose not to report. Tell him to honor his contract and report, and then we will talk" Hmm, that was a brief conversation that is completly possible. No where did I ever say that money wasn't the key issue to the hold out, of course it is the reason, he wants more money, thats a fact. My problem has been the assumptions that Parker and the bills have been discussing numbers right now and that the Bills don't want to pay what he wants. Its possible that that is the case, its just as likely that Parker is trying to buy Peters some more time to recover from surgery too. But those are assumptions being made based on what everyone things is going on. As for what either side is saying, Peters side has said nothing to the media. Both teams that have hold outs with Parker have both said the same things, show up to camp and we will talk, but until then, it is not our policy to talk. The only other thing the Bills have said is that they have had brief discussions with Peters agent (of course theres been no details of what those discussions included, but if you want to believe that they have been discussing numbers right now, go ahead, but don't try and pass it off as fact unless you have an insider) and have not heard from peters directly since the end of the season. And whats so wrong with what the Bills have publically said? They said come to camp, we won't talk until then. Its not a good move for them to say that publically and then not talk a new deal with him, since it will make the Bills look like the bad guy. And if he did report to camp and they refuse to work out a new deal, then he has the right to sit out until they do, and plenty more people would be on Peters side in that situation if he met with buffalos demands and then they refuse to talk.

He has to report by the 8th, one month before the start of the season

Hypothetical New Stadium, Part 1
apuszczalowski replied to GhostsOfTheRockpile's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Off the lake in Buffalo, around HSBC arena, but it would have to come with a bigger bridge to handle traffic. You are located in buffalo then, right by a border crossing that is at the end of the big highway that goes directly to one of the Largest Cities in Canada that the Bills are trying to market their product to. I find as a Canadian, the biggest problem going to a game is the border crossing, and a new bridge is necessary. Making the stadium a 5-10 drive from the Border will keep the team central to the areas they are trying to market to being Rochester and Toronto. The views of one in Niagara Falls would be nice, but i don't think its going to o much for the team to be located there. The only problem is that the best idea for the stadium to be used for more then just football would be to make it a dome or a retractable roof stadium to allow for things like concerts during the winter months. -
Anyone else kind of hope Favre goes to the Jets?
apuszczalowski replied to Fewell733's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly, couldn't say it any better myself If my choice is facing the Jets with Favre, or the Jets with Pennington, Clemmons, Ainge and Ratliff, I think I will take my chance facing any of the last four over a guy who carried the Packers on his back last year to the NFC championship. People do realise he is an NFL veteran of many years, and doesn't need as much prep time, even with a new system that they will probably cater to him the second he arrives, he will be fine to start the season and is a huge upgrade over the mess they have now. Favre makes the Jets much better. Remember, its not like the Packers team Brett is coming from is choked full of Pro Bowl veterans, they were one of, if not the youngest teams in the league the past few years. -

Apparently he is going to do a few episodes and then he will be leaving the show. He is going to stay on as a producer, and will make an occasional return, so they won't be killing him off, he will just be leaving for personal reasons. -
he shows up and reports to TC, he is honoring his contract. He is currently under contract to play football for them at his current rate. By sitting out, he is not doing that, therefore he is not honoring his contract. You then say that Brandon said that they will not talk contract til he shows up, that doesn't sound like the Bills want to force him to play out the remaining years on his deal
-
I don't know if I would rule out saying that Evans isn't a franchise WR. Looking at what he has done over his career with multiple offensive co-ordinators, coaches, and QB's, on some pretty bad teams, I would say he could be a season away from being one one of the better WR's in the league. As a WR, you rely alot more on players surrounding you to make you look better. A LT relys on his guard and the rest of the o-line to make him look good. You can have the best WR on your team, but he is gonna be crap if you don't have a guy that can get him the ball, or another weapon lining up on the other side of the field to take some of the pressure off of him. Do you think Moss would have had anywhere close to the season he had if it wasn't for Brady and teams could forget about the rest of the WR's and throw all their coverage on him?
-
Where have you been getting this from??????? I think Brandon has said that he had a small conversation with Parker, while finalising Hardys deal, and thats it. Where has it ever been said that they had discussions and that the problem has been the money he wants?
-
So you have seen what the bills offensive line looks like in a game situation with Chamber as a RT and Walker at LT? You have seen with your eyes first hand that those players can't play worth beans at those positions? Have you attended any of the Training camp practices this offseason to even see what they look like in practice???? Sounds more like people with assumptions, not eyes
-
Where did you get this information from? Do you have an inside source close to negotiations? Cause everything thats been made public says that the Bills have had no contact with Jason, and very little conversation with his agent, as most of their conversations were in regards tohis other client, James Hardy, getting his deal worked out. No where has it ever been said the Bills refuse to pay him more money, and that its a money issue, they have just taken the stance that they will not re-negotiate until he Reports to Training Camp
-
You are right, look at FA this year. The Bills could have very easily replaced Evans as the #1 WR. #1 WR's are available every year, thats true, no one says they are great WR's, just that they were #1's on their teams. There are also starting LT's avaialble every year too. You don't see franchise WR's avaible in FA either, because teams don't let players like that walk all the time either. You compared just #1 WR's being available to Franchise LT's being available.

Who's complaining because Peters isn't doing what they want? Everyone that isn't taking his side in this are saying that he needs to do what the bills have asked of him, and thats get to camp and talk to them. Its as simple as that. The ones that are acting like babies are the ones that are whining cause the Bills aren't doing what they want, and thats throw away all leverage the Bills have in negotiations by just caving into Peters demands because they feel teh Bills will go winless without him since he has made the Pro Bowl. Yes Peters is sitting at home doing what his agent is telling him to do, but that doesn't mean that its the right thing to do. And according to reports, not only is he not taking his case to the media, he also isn't taking it to his fellow teammates and the Bills FO either. Just because his agent told him to do it, it doesn't mean that he is doing the smart thing. Sitting out and not communicating with the FO is not going to get htis issue resolved, especially when teh Bills go public and say that if he shows up to camp, they are willing to work on a new deal. By the bills going public with that demand, its hard to go back on it, without making themselves look like the bad ones in this situation. Instead Peters is listening to his agent and missing valuable practice time, and is probably not winning over his teammates that are counting on him to be a big part of this years team. You also talk about the Bills giving average players above average money. So you would call Schoebel average, and yet he has made 2 Pro Bowls to Peters 1 Pro Bowl? Peters has had one solid year at his current position and people like bill are already contacting artists to sculpt his bust for the HOF and talking about how the Bills are doomed without him, yet someone like Schoebel is just average. The bills have set a precident, and thats no player is above the team, and that if you show up to camp and do as we ask, we will do as you ask and reward you with a fair deal. Darwin Walker tried playing this same game with the bills last year, and I remember all the outcries about how doomed the Bills were for not caving into his demands for a new deal before he showed up to camp.
-
So will you be on Evans side next season if he holds out after getting a new deal this offseason and he makes the Pro Bowl? I mean, he's obviously replaceable since only Peters is irreplaceable. What about Marshawn? Would you be on his side too? It would only be his second season as a starter at his current position and he is playing on a rookie contract, A spot in the Pro Bowl should mean more money for him. How did the bills set this up themselves? They never forced Peters to sign the 5 year deal back when he was still an "up and coming player". He agreed to the deal. And no one (I don't even remember seeing the Bills FO ever say that they want him to play out this year before they negotiate with him) is saying he should have to play out his contract, just that he needs to show up to camp first and open the communications line. I remember seeing posters here say that they think the Bills should be the ones to open the communication lines which is assanine in a negotiation situation. The Bills signed Walker and Dockery as established FA's, and they had to pay what they did because they were FA's and the were some of the better ones available at the time. This is a very similar situation to what happened with Schoebel. He felt underpayed as a Pro Bowl DE, getting paid less then the new deal they gave Kelsay. The difference is, he shwoed up to camp and did what he was asked to do by the team, and they re-negotiated. Peters isn't doing that, and thats why the Bills are taking the stance they are with him. Its not because they think they can get away with saving money on him, or because of the color of his skin like someone suggested before, or because they don't think he is any good. They just don't initiate negotiations with players, and they don't negotiate with players that refuse to show up to camp. If this situation is going to get resolved. Peters needs to show up to camp and show them he is ready to play, then if the Bills refuse to talk, he has all the reason in the world to sit out because he met their initial demand, to show up and open lines of communication. Peters is not smart. He ahs seen first hand that the Bills will take care of him if he does what he asks and shows up. They did it already for Schoebel while he ahs been here.

Hmmm, yeah, i think I remember that game, it was wet, and by the third quarter I was freezing my @ss off standing on my feet all game in the 100 level at RWS. Yeah, its all coming back to me now. And If I remember correctly, the Bills didn't lose that game because Peters went down. I think the weather played a bit of a factor, along with the future SB winners, the Giants, playing a better game after the Bills took a big lead to start the game. Did Trent Edwards get Sacked a ton more without Peters? Did he get injured alot more without Peters on the left side? Who says Walker can't hold his own at LT, or Chambers at RT?

Yet another wrinkle in the Favre affair....
apuszczalowski replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But he went from a tearful retirement speech about how he no longer had that want to spend time preparing for a week to play against a team, to a couple months later talking about how he wants to come back and wants the team to release him. I did read that he asked that he be traded to Chicago or Minneosota (Chicago apparently has shown no interest, and neither has the Viking according to the article I read this morning about making a trade for him), but why them? The vikings I understand, they are pretty close to being a QB away from a SB championship, but the Bears might be a little further away, plus they are division rivals. It seems to me that either someone/something from those teams got to him and convinced him to come out of retirement, or something happened that makes him now want to come back and screw the Packers organisation. I just find the entire thing fishy and that there is alot more going on behind the scenes in this entire situation Either way, talk about sh*tting on a fanbase and a community that has treated you like a god -
Did the offence really become that much worse when Peters injured himself last season? The offence was horrible all season, and I didn't see that much of a difference between when peters was playing and when he wasn't that would make me believe that he is the reason why this team will Sink or Swim this year
-
Peters was playing RT when he signed the deal, and then half way during the first season of the deal he was switched to LT. You don't think that Peters and his agent knew the Bills were eventually going to try him there? Or do you believe that they just one week in practice decided that he should switch and play LT the next week? Didn't they just re-sign Williams and Butler in the last year? After Peters had already agreed to his 5 year deal, that at the time he thought was a good deal? If he flopped at RT or LT, would he have sat out to re work a lower deal to get paid what he would be worth? Maybe Butler and Williams agents are better agents and were able to work out better deals for their players? So Jeff Backus isn't even close to Peters greatness, and yet he signed a bigger deal then what Peters did, at the same time Peters signed his deal. I have yet to see how this doesn't help to prove that peters agent is not that great. Of course you think this is a special case, you have had a man crush on Peters for years, so of course you feel he should get whatever he wants. But if you were to step back and look at the situation and how its being approached/handled by him and his agent, you would see there are alot better ways to get the job done, and the Bills have shown it in the past that they are willing to get the job done. Just look at Schoebel, signed a new deal, played part of it, another DE he is better then signed a better deal, Bills renegotiate with him because he showed up to TC and participated in team activities while re-negotiating.
-
And yet even with that Pro Bowl LT, the Bills were no closer to ending that Playoff draught last season No one is saying he is wrong asking for more money, or that not other player would do this. The problem is the way he is going about doing it. The Bills have made it clear, show up to TC and we will talk, otherwise they have nothing to say. So what does he do? Stays at home and collects fines. If he shows up to training camp and they refuse to talk, or shows up and they get to a stalemate in the negotiations, then you leave and sit out. Atleast you met their demands and have leverage, and make the Bills look bad. Also, everyone is already declaring the season over if Peters can't play, but we haven't even seen what Walker can do at LT, or what Chambers can do at RT. Walker might not be a Pro Bowl LT, but we don't know what he can do, if he can just hold his own there, the Bills might not be in that bad of shape.
-
Of Course, this one was different the the hundreds of others, plus he provided such great reasons on why the Bills should just sign him to whatever he wants its simple, the Bills have publically said that they have not had any extensive discussions with Peters and they said if he shows up to Training camp and wants to talk, they will talk, until then, they have nothing to discuss. Response from Peters and his agent, crickets Someone forgot to tell his agent the proper way to negotiate, you don't go straight into playing hardball. Step 1 - Call the Bills and make your demands Step 2 - Show up with a smile on your face to manditory offseason events (if you really want to impress, show up not optional ones too to show you are a team player) Step 3 - Open discussions with Management after meet their demands (i.e. show up and take part and ask for a new deal) Step 4 - If they refuse to budge on the negotiations, threaten to hold out Step 5 - If they continue to refuse to budge, Hold out Step 6 - Continue to hold out til they will redo your deal, or ask to be traded to somewhere who will Usually, it never goes past step 3 and 4 for a player like Peters, if the steps before it are followed. And at that point, the tables are turned and you have the leverage because you have done exactly what they asked you to do. Unfortunatly, Peters agent must have skipped the chapters in his agent manual that had steps 1 thru 4 and he just went to step 5. No one here is saying he doesn't deserve to get a new deal, people just don't agree that the Bills should just cave immediatly because he has decided to hold out. Thats not the way to run a successfu buisness (well it is if you want to run it directly into the ground). The first thing he should do is get rid of this agent, cause he isn't doing him, or his other clients (seems to be a trend this year that this guy is pulling this with most of his clients) a favor. If he was a better agent, he wouldn't have signed the long term deal 2 years ago, or he would have negotiated a better deal with incentives for moving to LT, a move they obviously knew was going to happen. Now why is it the Bills problem that his agent didn't have the foresight to work some things like that into the deal?

apuszczalowski replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anybody else find it a little suspicious that he is always asking to be released, not to be traded, or to get a chance to start for them? Everytime I read something about the situation he is always asking for his release from the packers. Makes me wonder about whats really going on
