the pistol offense
apuszczalowski replied to Happy Days Lois & Clark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why not use it if it helps speed up the development of a college QB? Miami went outside the box and brought the "Wildcat" offence back and it helped them transition into a playoff team. Its time to think ouside the box -
I think Chris brown "reported" recently that the entire "Gaither on the trading block for a 2nd" was just a ploy by teh Ravens to get him motivated enough to get to camp. As much as he does sound like a great move, theres a reason why the Ravens would be willing to move such a young LT with potential, and it sounds like he has serious motivational issues

Bulger is done as a starter and is not a betteroption then whats on this team Campbell is an option, I don't think he was ever given a fair chance in Washington. I think they tried to make him the saviour too early. It doesn't help that his confidence was probably shot completly last season knowing that they had been trying to get Cutler last year. For a 4th (McNabb was picked up for a 2nd, no way do you give up one for Campbell) to come in and compete for the starter job, which he would probablywin, I would say its a good move. I would personally be on the phone with Baltimore and try to swing a deal to get Troy Smith and Gaither for maybe a second and a couple other picks this year and next. Smith is still young and has some experience as a starter, was a good college QB and only lost his starter job due to an injury and the backup stepping up to play even better. I could see the Bills waiting on these deals until they see whats available in the draft. Its tough to say if they feel Clausen is a franchise QB, and it does sound like they are higher on Tebow and McCoy, so they may wait and see what happens with the first round of the draft first

The Bills had a Pro Bowl LT, and when they dealt him away (and had a revolving door of street FA's making up the line for most of the season), they finished with teh same results, another mediocre season and a top 10 pick.
-
either the #1 or #2 pick has to be used for on a Qb with the other on an OT. We have seen what theQB's can do with a "premier" LT. Last year was the first year they played without Pro Bowler Jason "Greatest LT ever" Peters and there was no difference in how they ended the season, so its not like just getting a premier LT is going to make this team a playoff contender next season If the Bills like what they see in Clausen, and its more then what they see in whatever LT's are available, they will take him. If not, they will take whomever they feel is the best player available and maybe wait til the second to get Tebow or McCoy in the 2nd (or trade up into the late 1st)

We need an elite LT and the Redskins need picks
apuszczalowski replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
you do realise that the Redskins also need a LT to protect McNabb now too -
Might be a early run on OT's in the draft
apuszczalowski replied to Bufcomments's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I say you take Clausen if you feel he will be a franchise QB, or if you like him better then Tebow or McCoy and you believe you can get them with your second rounder (Which is what I can see them doing, take Best player available in round 1, take McCoy or Tebow in round 2, or trade up to get them if theres a chance they go sooner) Spiller could be the pick if they don't think that the LTs available are the best choice and they feel Spiller will be an impact player on offence -
If Buddy believes that Trent Williams/Bulaga
apuszczalowski replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Besides Safety, CB, Punter and Kicker, and maybe LB (because the Bills have ALOT of potential LBs right now), is there really a position where the Bills couldn't use someone better? Even at RB. With everyone ready to throw Lynch to the curb for one down year, its been proven in the NFL you need atleast 2 good ones. I wouldn't have a problem with the Bills using their top picks on players that could be top level Pro Bowl players, even if they aren't at a position of need -

Trents not the only one that statement can be used for, its not like any previous QB since Kelly has had great o-lines and stability at the OC position at the same time -
McNabb to the Bills for Picks?
apuszczalowski replied to CountDorkula's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trade for McNabb, cut/trade Edwards or Fitz, keep Brohm as the Qb of the future to learn behind McNabb and focus the rest of your attention on other pressing needs. THE BILLS NEED A QB, they haven't had one since Kelly. McNabb may not be in his prime, but he is still in the top half of the league. If you can get him at a decent price, why would you pass it up? I see people recomending Culpepper and Garcia -
Clausen if we trade down to 20 or 21
apuszczalowski replied to billsfansince1964's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just looking at the top 8 Rams - Will most likely take Bradford Lions - already have a QB Bucs - Don't have a starter set in stone, could possibly be tempted for a franchise QB, but not likely Redskins - Campbell (who they have already tried to replace) and Grossman are their QBs, no guarantee they would pass Chiefs - Most likely aren't interested with Cassel Seahawks - May still go Qb, just cause they brought in Whitehurst, theres no guarantee he will be the answer Browns - Still could be looking for a franchise QB, Delhomme isn't a long term answer, same with Wallace, depends if Holmgren was telling the truth in his comments about Clausen Raiders - Still searching for a franchise QB with Russell looking more like a bust every year It is highly unlikely he gets past all of those teams cause many of them don't have a quaranteed franchise QB at this time -
Culpepper wants to play for the Bills
apuszczalowski replied to Numark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey Dante, so do I, I think we both have the same chances of that happening. And to all saying he is better then what the Bills already have, have you seen him play the last, lets say, 5 years? No he isn't. I wouldn't say he is much worse, but in no way is he better now then what the Bills have already, not that that is saying much about either. Culpepper is done, he is not what he once was when he played for the Vikes with Carter and Moss, and without a hottub time machine, I don't think he is worth even talking to Make a trade for Hasselback or Smith (from the Ravens) if they can be had for a low pick, or else draft one of the top QB's in the first 2 rounds -
With a Pro Bowl LT and the same quality QB's (although some may say Fitz is an improvment over JP) the Bills were 7-9. Say QB's and street FA's playing on the line, how much worse were they? 6-10 You need to have a good line infront of a great QB in this league to win. There have been exceptions to the rule like everything. But looking at the teams that have won with "caretaker" QB's, the one thing they have had in common is a top rated defence. The Cardinals last year made the SB with a QB most think will be a sure fire HOFer and a Bills castoff for a LT. Both are a need for this team, but its more likely that you can get by with a decent LT and oline, if you have a great QB, then getting by with a mediocre QB and a great oline.

Exactly, Hasselbeck is not a long term answer, and the Bills aren't close enough to being a "contender" that they are only a QB away from playoffs or a SB. Bring him in for a year or 2 to help groom and develop a 1st/2nd round QB (depending on how long that QB needs to start) and help bring along Brohm. Bringing in Hasselbeck should not mean they won't draft a QB early, so thats why they need to try and deal Edwards or Fitz to Seattle so they don't give up a decent pick. The only reason I don't see Matt on the trading block is for the same reason I would be for bringing him to Buffalo. Whitehurst has 0 NFL game experience, who is going to be there for them to bring him along or if he struggles? I believe that he is the heir to the offence when Hasselbeck is gone, but I don't think he is matts replacement this year. By trading someone like Edwards or Fitz, it gives them an experienced starter to backup Whitehurst or start until he is ready
-
If they would trade him for Fitz and Edwards straight up, and the bills still bring in either a top 5 QB in this draft, or someone like Troy Smith to compete with him for the top spot and allow whomever isn't dealt bewteen Fitz and Edwards to fight for a backup job or be cut, I'm all for it. If you bring him in for a year to start the first few games til a 1st or 2nd rounder is ready to take over, and then to mentor as a backup, I would be for it. Leave Brohm as the #3 and develop him too
-
You have to figure that with the Bills having the guy who was with San Diego when they drafted Whitehurst, and could have had him for a 3rd, yet didn't step in and try to make an offer, the bills may know he isn't a given to be anything more then a backup
-
I actually like this idea, atleast with Smith theres potential. He was decent and only lost his job due to a health issue and having a 1st rounder step in and play so well it forced the team to keep him in. I like the idea of keeping Brohm around and trying to develop him, he was a guy who came into the league with alot of potential and never had a chance to move up due to the 2 guys on the depth chart above him. Keep him #3 and let Smith, Fitz and Edwards battle it out for the #1 and #2 spots. Picking up smith for a second day pick is no different then taking a chance on some college player with no NFL experience. Smith has starting experience. Theres no QB in FA right now thats a definite upgrade as a #1 QB over what the bills have now. Garcia is a dinosaur who is not an answer unless the injury bugs continues to bite and the Bills QB's all go down. The rest are either too far over the hill or not starters. If you could get a McNabb or Vick or another decent QB for a mid level pick, that could work. The top 2 QB's in the draft will probably be gone by 9, and the others will need time to develop. Save the early picks for a OT, or a NT
-
I don't know, The Bengals were quick to throw him away with a big chunk of $$$ left on his deal this offseason (seems like they couldn't wait to get him out of there) and that was with a good QB in Palmer throwing to him, what do you see in Buffalo that would make you believe that he would be better then he was last year?
-
How dare you say that Stevie "HOFer" Johnson is unproven, have you not seen his highlight reel, 1st Ballot HOF plays in the preseason and at camp??????? He will be the #1, #2, #3 and Slot receiver all at the same time before camp is over this year, and will probably also take on the starting TE job by game 1, he will be the QB too by game 8

Insight into Bills draft plans?
apuszczalowski replied to High Mark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So who was going to score the points to win the games? When the offence did have the ball and had the chance, they came up flat. Look at the first 3 quarters of almost every game last year, the Bills defence held them in the games while the offence kept going 3 and out. Sure having the defence come up with a couple more stops a game mayhave given the offence more possessions, but are you seriously telling everyone here that the problem with the offence was that they weren't given enough chances in a game to score? What did you see from the Bills offence last year that would lead you to believe that they could have scored more if only they were given a few more tries? When they had the ball they couldn't do sh*t with it -
Insight into Bills draft plans?
apuszczalowski replied to High Mark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard Yes a great defence, or a great o-line, or a great coach, etc. can make up for not having a Top tier QB, but a team is less likely to have success if they don't have a good QB. Look at the final 4 last year. 3 teams with top tier QB's (2 are guaranteed 1st ballot HOFers) and one had a young "unknown quantity, still learning" QB whos team was being carried by one of the leagues best defenses. In the last decade, how many teams have made it to the SB without a top QB? -
Insight into Bills draft plans?
apuszczalowski replied to High Mark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
not exactly The "defensive game plan" you say that they used last year worked fine until the 4th quarter and could have worked for the entire game, IF the offence could sustain drives and kill the clock. The Bills could have had a top 10 or even a top 5 defence last year and the end results still would have been the same because the offence couldn't score points and kill the clock staying on the field. You can't expect to win with the offence they had last year unless the defence can come up with turnovers and score the points themselves. The offence was a complete disaster, and it wasn't all the o-line to blame. You can have the best o-line ever and still be bad if you don't have a good QB to lead the offence.
