  1. he is a physical guy who can break huge plays. i think our new OC wants to have a whole bunch of targets out on the field so that we can run or pass from any formation without showing tendencies.
  2. i think that might get you above average. young D players will have more immediate impact than young o players. vets on O can come in (QBs, WRs, and the OL) and just ship it in. the issue is you'd never get a big time impact player on O deveolped (you just pay for what you get) and you'd lose corners and pass rushers on D (assuming you drafted them). corners and pass rushers are rare, and you need young guys on O to come along and really turn into something special. i like the bias of spending FA on O and drafting D, but not in that extreme
  3. bills fans were saying phat pat was over paid and washed up, and he had f all for stats too...
  4. if we get a first and second or third, it might be worth it with clements. ditching him and getting huff, signing a good safety in FA, and drafting a solid guy at safety in round 2 or 3 might be our best bet. it will free up money, but is there anyone to sign? maybe we can just get every decent OL and DT out there and pay for them with nate's money
  5. tripp would be solid. most DTs fall out of favour in their team and kick ass in their new one (sam adams a couple times, ted wash, pat will altho he was always kewl, and more)
  6. wow Kemoeatu got almost 5 per with 5 as a signing bonus. that is a bunch for 2 down DT who isn't really a world beater. god i wish we inked phat pat last season :<
  7. i really like the bunk. i think if we get a space eater or two in FA (washington and that dude from balt look nice) and put bunk beside them he would just destroy single blockers. a couple DTs like that and an upgrade to milloy in coverage (which i think would be pretty easy, in the draft OR in FA) will allow us to terrorize opponents on 3rd down without sell out blitzing.
  8. huff can hit and can tackle, just watch some games of texas. he is a safety with top corner speed (4.3 and change) and great hands and coverage skills. he has the upside of a guy like ed reed. did you see how he blocked those punts? the comment above about him needing to be close to the LOS is as far from right as you can get. huff is easily the best corner in the draft, if you have him locked up on a back, a TE, or a slot WR you don't have the disadvantage that all but one or two guys in the NFL give you. i'll take him or other guys, but i won't be sad if he is our guy at number 8.
  9. davenport would be great as a back up
  10. i understand the war drumming for DT and OT, but shokey and gates transformed young QBs (or just an inconsistent one in shock's first year) and OK Os into match up problems and red zone machines. if we can get ourselves some linemen in FA and in rounds 2 and 3, davis could well be the piece that puts us over the top. with parish, evans, mcgahee and davis we might have a legitimate set of targets that can do damage in the NFL
  11. there is a huge drop off from d'brick to the next few, but not really that much from ngata to the next few, i think at this point i'd rather move down and try to pick up the highest rated big men with the 2 picks we get for our first. if brick slips past the jests i'd likea trade up for him tho. with the 3-5 good DTs in this draft and the 5 or 6 solid ones in FA this year, I don't think we HAVE to take DT at number 8.
  12. davis can block well. a good TE will be a safety valve for a young QB and allow him to make more plays and keep drives alive. if it helps us run and pass without guys guessing what we are doing, our D stays off the gridiron, our whole team improves. we need some line help, but a top 4 or so DT in the 2nd, some FA help, and some OL in the draft along with davis might just be the best choice
  13. i've been wondering the same thing too. have heard some trade down ideas with us getting the bunk and an interior guy like mangold or max gilles. that is prolly the best value, but if we nab bunk and a guy like watson (or similar DT) we'd be laughing.
  14. no, he doesn't have the rep that taylor had, but the reason is that reed was blowing up in the NFL when taylor was coming out of a very exciting miami program. huff was far and away the best player on the texas D. the biggest thing is huff can hit and cover well AND has a nose for the ball and knows the game. if he is in your D you can do all kinds of things with him which makes him more like reed than roy williams or taylor. the positive thing is roy or taylor can be used against you if they have to get depth and are far from the line, huff is perhaps at his best out there. davis is prolly a better prospect at TE than huff is at DB, but both are much better at their positions than many other prospects are at theirs
  15. aj looks a whole lot better than speilman did in school
  16. hahaha the issue as i see it is that we as bills fans have become a bit too obsessed with "franchise LTs". the issue is LTs and other olinemen are not that great of athletes. you can see at the combine they are the fattest and can't ever lift as much as the dline or the LBs. they are also the slowest and can't do any of the drills as well. the problem is quality athletes (there are a few) who play LT are very rare. so with supply and demand as it is their price is just very high, inspite of the fact that they might not have the impact on your team that their cost implies. the same also applies to corners, they are rare and as such are expensive. the as an individual can have a very large impact, but they will also get burned for big plays. the opposite applies to running backs, there are so many top guys like edge and alexander can't get traded for a 2nd rounder. so while we need a much better Oline, we don't necessarily need allstar guys at any one position. we need a unit that plays well, which of coure means we need quality, but top dollar tackles don't imply a great Offense (baltimore comes to mind). there is also a large risk with high pick tackles, they are big giant slow guys who in many cases don't workout in the NFL (although d'brick might have the opposite problem, he might be too weak). anyway, we need the best team we can get and a guy like d'brick might be worth moving up for (inspite of all i wrote above) but if the fall off to the next guy is that far, we are better off taking the best guy at the #8 spot if we can't trade down.
  17. huff really does grade like a sean taylor, ed reed, and roy williams in many people eyes. when you see what palimalou does for pitts, he is not a bad value at 8. i agree with the general sentitment that we NEED to upgrade our lines, but if we can do that in FA and later rounds (we should be able to get QUALITY young OT, OG, and DTs in the 2nd and 3rd rounds as well is in FA).
  18. xactly if we get some guys for the lines in FA i'd be happy with davis. davis blocks too.
  19. they wouldn't take it because they think they can get more. i think they'll settle on 57 or 58. i'm hoping some kind of veteran resigning rule and rookie pool comes out soon
  20. i don't think you can call the NFL communist or not free market because of their cap and draft. the NFL teams are franchises in one business. they agree to terms and conditions and vote on them as a group, but they are still private enterprise and as such are still "capitalist".
  21. new orleans would do this if a) they were not in love with any of the top QBs this year b) were huge on JP's potential c) MOST IMPORTANTLY have a big cap concern. the cap savings they'd have for going from #2 to JP and number 8 is big. they'd also get what they feel is a qb who can play now, and a good player at #8.
  22. hmm if we have an uncapped year in 07 do you think ralph might just decide to spend some money to finally win it all and dump a ton of cash in FA? we spent a lot of money before the cap was in place back in the early 90s, if he really wants to win it all he might jus buy a trophy...
  23. we ditched a back up Olineman, a slow SS who could not hit all year (injury), and a freelancing DT from the worst run D we have ever had. we also lost a TE who did nothing. i agree losing a bunch of starters is a big change, but we can replace them with some quality guys and be better than last year in short order.
  24. you know, there is an outside chance we make our own 34 cover 2 type d. blitzing and zone blitzing would be great because we can send just 4 or 5 and confuse the blockers (like how pitts does and we used to years ago). just having a 3-4 wrinkle would be good as well. i think aaron could play DE in the 3-4, but he would be targetted on a lot of running plays. it all depends on who we sign, but i think we will get 2 or 3 new DTs (through FA and the draf) and along with edwards coming back will really improve us in the middle
  25. guys, don't look soley at this years cap figure. cutting those old guys and m williams means we have plenty of room for long term contracts. we can sign all kinds of players if we want to.
