  1. He meant there's no substance or truth to the report about coming out of retirement.
  2. Money talks. If someone offered me $8 million a year and I was retired, well, let's just say I would no longer be retired.
  3. Agreed. He's clearly trying his ass off at this point. Whether he and Brandon can persuade one of these high-profile guys to take the job is another matter.
  4. Exactly. These big names all want total control. That's why the Bills are going about things the way they are. As Bill Parcells said, "If I'm going to cook the food, let me shop for the ingredients." Shanahan, Cowher and Holmgren all subscribe to that way of thinking as well.
  5. Well, Stewart was a onetime MVP candidate who helped lead the Steelers to the AFC title game in 2001, not to mention some other playoff appearances. He wasn't a complete waste.
  6. Agreed. I'll say this much: At least the Bills are trying. It has to be a two-way street, though, with the big names they're chasing wanting to come here.
  7. Haslett is probably dead last on my list. I want absolutely nothing to do with him.
  8. If it is indeed another concussion, you have to really worry about Trent's well-being. Three concussions in a year's time means retirement is the smart path to take.
  9. Isn't Chris the GM-in-waiting in Indy? No reason for him to come here.
  10. Also, Schefter once wrote a book with Shanahan. I trust his knowledge of Shanny a lot more than Pasquarelli's.
  11. Exactly. And I think it was that decision which ultimately led to Casserly's ouster, despite the fact he was correct.
  12. Well, he was trying to build an expansion team from the ground up, which is extremely difficult. Casserly laid a good amount of the foundation in Houston by bringing in Mario Williams, Andre Johnson and DeMeco Ryans, all of whom are stars, among others. He'd be a great choice as the "football czar" if the Bills don't hire a Shanahan or a Cowher.
  13. As far as the GM position goes, interview John Guy. And when it's over, tell him he's fired.
  14. Not a big Lynch fan, but I'd actually like to see him as part of a Shanahan-led offense. Shanny's been known to get a lot out of RBs.
  15. I don't really see how it's a ploy. If they don't get Shanahan and instead settle for some retread, the fan base will become that much more ornery. It's not gonna help their ticket-selling cause to court Shanahan, fail and hire a loser.
  16. If memory serves, Callahan was a lousy head coach who was simply the product of an insanely talented Raiders team. After flaming out in Year 2 with Oakland, he was fired and then went on to fail miserably as Nebraska's head coach.
  17. Which stems from an inability to pick the right GM. If the Bills hire a good football czar, I'd be fine with him bringing in a coordinator to succeed Jauron. The Falcons and Dolphins are two recent examples of teams that added great football men in Thomas Dimitroff and Bill Parcells, who hired Mike Smith and Tony Sparano, respectively.
  18. In terms of minority candidates, what about the Texans' Bobby Grier? He's their associate director of pro scouting and as a bonus, his son Mike is one of my all-time favorite Sabres.
  19. Mike Lombardi said all that. You're confusing him with La Canfora.
  20. Hockey > football, IMO, and I don't give a rat's ass what the rest of the country thinks.
  21. Wow, you're really overrating the 300-yard stat. Cutler took 52 attempts to get there, so his YPA was a paltry 5.9. He also threw five picks, two in the end zone, in a game that saw his much-maligned defense deliver a great performance. Did Cutler have a running game? No. But he did have a solid TE in Greg Olsen and a capable WR in Hester, who's on pace for over 80 catches this season. There's no justification for a five-interception performance. The 49ers tried to give that game to the Bears, but Cutler kept giving it right back until time expired. There's a difference between a gunslinger and a guy who just throws it up for grabs, which is what Cutler does. How else would he be on pace for 34 interceptions? Bottom line, I don't want him anywhere near the Bills. You'll get flashes of brilliance one week and what we saw against San Francisco the next. He's nothing more than a slightly better, much more hyped Losman.
