They've gotta luck into a coach and a quarterback. Until then, they'll keep wandering down a dead-end road.
-
shutout. they earned it
By this logic, I guess the Chiefs earned having five Pro Bowlers. Spiller, Levitre and Byrd all had big-time cases to make the roster.
-
OK, I agree with that. But Gruden can absolutely be described as "proven." Overrated, too? Sure. But with his resume, he's a proven coach.
-
He's famous largely because he has 100 wins and a Super Bowl ring. Not that hard to figure out.
-
Yeah. Chan Gailey is his name.
Curtis Modkins is the figurehead OC.
-
was elway part of the front office staff when they drafted tebow?
No. Tebow was a 2010 draft pick. Elway took an exec job in 2011.
Kelly working at a job for the Bills will be like when Kramer "worked" at Brant / Leland. "Its almost as if you have no business training at all "
"Just trying to get ahead."
-
Kelly's the same guy who thought Tebow was a franchise QB. Elway, in comparison, wasn't a believer even when the Tebow-led Broncos went to the playoffs and won a playoff game. Elway could've stayed the course, but he knew better.
-
so what you are saying is that if you go to stanford, you are automatically deemed "smart", and if you do not, you arent as "smart" as someone who does? i realize kelly will never be confused with einstein, but to label someone as smart based on what college they attend is very elitist, to say the least..
I said Kelly doesn't come off as particularly smart. Of course, plenty of smart people haven't gone to elite colleges. Elway has, though, and obviously he knows what he's doing as an NFL executive. Under him, the Broncos have gone back to being a power in the league. Color me skeptical that the Bills would do the same with Kelly in a prominent role.
-
is that because he went to stanford? does he have a degree in "football mgmt"..that is a ridiculous assumption..
No, it's because smart people go to Stanford. Kelly has never come off as that intelligent to me off the field. Just because he's a Bills legend doesn't mean he deserves an FO job.
-
All the Broncos had to do was hire John Elway and they've made the playoffs 2 years running.
Well, that and signing Peyton Manning who is having another excellent season. Elway is EVP of Football Ops in Denver, not the de facto GM. Still, Pat Bowlen made that move in the wake of Josh McDaniels's 2 terrible seasons.
And Elway is a Stanford man. He's a lot smarter and more qualified for a front office job than Kelly.

Clayton has no insight on the Bills, as was stated earlier in this thread. Gailey has a week left as an NFL head coach and then he'll be done for good.
-
Nothing here screams "man for the job." It'd be kind of hard to mess up as a coordinator with a defense as talented as San Francisco's.
-
Forgot about Dalton and good point on Ponder. Ponder is a great beneficiary of Adrian Peterson. Kaepernick makes the 49ers better with his deep ball ability.
Don't get me wrong - I like Kaepernick. But San Fran was well on its way to the playoffs with Smith. QB change or not, they'd have made the postseason.
-
1. Add Dalton to your list.
2. Not trying to discredit him, but the 49ers would've made it without Kaepernick.
3. Ponder stinks. He isn't "leading" the Vikings anywhere.
-
I was being facetious....but....I don't know about you but I want us to be able to win a SB.
I want it, but I can't imagine it ever happening. Even if it does, the Bills have to build themselves into a competent organization first. They're a long way off. At least getting to the playoffs would be a good step.
-
is this the wrong time to point out that no NFL Head Coach has won the Super Bowl for two different teams?
Just saying.
No playoffs since the '90s. Let's crawl before walking.
-
I respect your opinion!
Now I feel like a jerk. Sorry. I hope you're right, but I'm just tired of getting burned on intriguing Bills rumors.
-
Why isn't Gruden meeting with the general manager? Oh, right, because this is a made-up story.
-
Hey, Buddy had other positions that were more important than LB
Well, when you pull 1-2 players from every draft of course it's hard to build a complete team. That, and switching defenses twice in 3 seasons, but who's counting anymore? The rebuild already failed.
Amen. But here's to continuity! Give him and his awful coach another chance!
Nix has signed FA LB's and drafted LB's. Because they haven't played in a way you like does not mean the position was not addressed. It was.
Not to any satisfactory extent. Nix hasn't spent more than a third-round pick on a linebacker and his "best" FA signing at the position is Nick Barnett.
-
Every one of their linebackers is awful. The Bills can either fix it through both free agency and the draft or continue getting steamrolled. Nix's general lack of attention toward the position during his three years has been appalling.
-
Chan is so much better than Jauron, it's not even funny. And I don't care that Jauron had a better record.
Except he isn't. You don't care about record? Good for you. But it says it all in this case. Jauron did a lot more with less talent.
Also, the fact that Chan Gailey is so bad that I actually have to talk up Dick Jauron is depressing. How much lower can the Bills sink?
-
Wannstedt might be one of few options actually worse than Gailey, and definitely hasn't done anything to merit another chance at being a head coach. No effing way.
-
I agree.
But, because our coaches stubborness, out weighs their football judgement................it won't happen.
Just another reason Chan should be fired.
And the GM traded a draft pick for a guy who has been inexplicably inactive for every game. Just another reason he should be fired, too.
-
At the very least, he should be active. But it's the Bills we're talking about. Don't expect anything to make sense.
Realistically, how many years of rebuilding do we have left?

I said luck because I don't think the Bills FO will ever be competent enough under Wilson to get it right. They'll have to fall ass backward into success.
