I think he would be a great defensive coordinator. However, if I were him I would just relax, enjoy life, golf, and let Ralph pay me for the next couple years. He's not NFL head coach material. But he's smart, a great person, obviously well-respected and liked, and has a great family and probably several million bucks in the bank PLUS around 6 more to come over the next couple years. There are worse situations to be in for a guy. I would take him as a DC any day. He's perfect for it. Good at coaching defense, doesn't make waves, relates well to players, etc. Never going to challenge the head coach or create problems. Sometimes in life a promotion is the WORST thing that can happen to a person. LOTS of guys in the NFL are great coordinators, and should just enjoy the $$ and success instead of destroying their coaching careers by taking a job they can't be successful at. Mike Nolan, Gregg Williams, Mike Mularkey, Norv Turner and Dick Jauron all fit into this category, IMO.

NO CHANCE Jauron gets fired now
trolls_r_us replied to trolls_r_us's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
it's really frustrating because if this team can go 7-9 with a proven loser as coach, who knows what they could do if they had a guy who gets the most out of players.... Byrd is only playing because of injuries to other players... Just like Greer the last couple seasons before he left -
Just what the title says. The team likes him, plays hard, and will likely finish between 6-10 and 8-8. At the end of the year, you'll hear that with a couple of bounces, a couple less injuries, and a good draft, 2010 should be a promising season! There is absolutely ZERO chance Jauron gets fired now unless the team totally tanks and misses out on their goal of 7-9, which if you look at the schedule, is unlikely.

Could Fitz actually save DJ's job?

I wonder how good Trent would be on the Broncos -
Players really, really like Jauron
trolls_r_us replied to RockPile007's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The players will get over it fast, or get cut. This is the NFL, not cradle school. Buffalo is a small town, and there are plenty of players who want him gone, trust me. They just aren't going to say so in the media. -

trolls_r_us replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
don't worry, Fitz is barely a serviceable backup QB. That will be very clear shortly. This is what a decade of losing football does to a fanbase; it makes people delusional. I would be more worried about the injury excuse saving Jauron. -
The "Fire Jauron Crowd" should settle down and realize
trolls_r_us replied to Fewell733's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills fans just want the team to be competitive and relevant. This will NOT happen with Jauron as coach. Therefore, anything that helps keep him here longer just puts off the day when we will see winning football. Jauron has a few defenders left. I'm sure Norv Turner and Wade Phillips do too. All are "nice guys" with soft, underachieving teams. -
Dick Jauron's 13-3 season in Chicago....
trolls_r_us replied to Lv-Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
when you look for small, fast players, you are asking for injuries... Maybe the mindset here plays a role too, I'm not sure. When you're an undersized wimpy team with a soft "good guy" coach in a violent, aggressive sport, that seems set up for trouble. -
Players really, really like Jauron
trolls_r_us replied to RockPile007's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Many of thee players wouldn't even be on another NFL team's roster if another coach came in here and cleaned house. Others would suddenly have to wake up and produce. With Jauron, it's like being UB and playing college ball against USC. You don't really need to win, just show up, try really hard, and maybe with a couple of bounces and some good luck you can come close, or even win. That is how SOFT this team is. Let's get real here: the Jets QB was a disaster Sunday, just like Anderson the week before. We went 1-1 in those games and it took almost 4 hrs to beat the Jets. This is a 5-11 or 6-10 team, so they will win a few here and there. Big deal. -
get used to Jauron... He is going to be here for quite a while yet
-
Jauron isn't going anywhere... Anyone who thinks he is getting fired is delusional. This is a 6-10 team this year. We got this one to go to 2-4. That relieves all the immediate pressure on Jauron. NO WAY he gets canned mid-season. Now, at the end of the year when we're 6-10 and "came within a whisker" (as Marv said) of beating CLE and NE (and whoever else that could be true for by the end of the season) Jauron WILL BE retained (again). The company line will be that injuries and a few bad bounces were the difference, and next season, with a good draft and a bunch of starters returning from injury, as well as some young players getting better, we will be in the playoff mix. The team's PR dept will say Jauron gives us the best chance at "maintaining" the progression of the team, everyone will flip out, then they will sign some big name FA (like they did with Owens) and people will gobble up the tickets, and we will rinse and repeat. As much as you're rushing for the REPLY button, you know, deep down, that I am right.

well, I heard it too and it was tough to listen to, especially the part about the Bills being a "whisker" from winning that Cleveland game and having a better record (with the implication that the team is THAT close to turning it around).... EVEN IF we beat Cleveland 9-6 in OT or something similar, it would be a JOKE of a win, given how this team played... The Browns looked like they were TRYING to lose for crying out loud! Marv is just trying to put a positive spin on things because he fought so hard for Jauron to be hired. Don't forget who picked the players on those Super Bowl teams: Polian. Once he left, this team's drafts went downhill and have stunk ever since. Meanwhile, the drafts of the Colts have been great. Coincidence? I think not. Marv NEVER was a great evaluator of talent. He was a GOOD coach who did some great things in terms of managing egos and leading a great group of men on the field. One could argue his assistant coaching hires were not great, either. Where is the Levy coaching tree? Where is the Levy legacy as GM? I'm not bashing the guy but people have to be realistic here. Marv's comments should not surprise anyone here. He is a lot like Tony Dungy: great motivators, extremely intelligent men, but when it comes to nuts and bolts, there are many better.

I really hate Dick Jauron's mentality
trolls_r_us replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the guy looks freaking awful...... Maybe he hopes to get fired, since he gets paid anyway and can relax and be away from constant scrutiny. -
It appears as if Trent Edwards just might be the real deal. IF that is the case, then we have a QB, and as long as you have QB, you ALWAYS have a chance.

I was wondering if it was my new TV, but its only on FOX... Bouncy screen all through the game... it makes you sick after a while

If you were not at the TBD tailgate

the McKelvin story just went away, now this.... YES it could happen anywhere, and does, but there is nothing that the national sports media loves more than bashing Buffalo, so buckle up and enjoy the ride. -
Marv was in town to do an autograph signing last weekend.

I wonder what it's going to say?!

America's Ten Fastest Dying Cities!
trolls_r_us replied to PearlHowardman's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I feel like I've read this discussion somewhere before. Buffalo was a steel, railroad, shipping, automobile and manufacturing town. With those 5 strikes against us we shouldn't even exist anymore. Yet 1.2 million people live in this metro area. I had a long response typed up but experience has taught me that it is pointless to try and highlight the positive things that are going on in Buffalo in a thread like this. I can just go by my experience. In the past few weeks I have hiked the Niagara gorge trail (beautiful), visited the gardens in Delaware Park, did a free tour of the Art Gallery on Friday, went over to a friend's house for a nice Rock Band party (we are all in our 20's AND we're not college students so we don't even exist here!), took my fiance to see Letchworth, went camping in the Southern Tier for a week, walked through the botanical gardens, went to a couple of free concerts, rode my bike along the miles of nice bike trails almost daily, hiked in Sprague Brook and Chestnut Ridge, and I plan on visiting Bills training camp and spending the fall attending Bills and Sabres games, hiking, fishing, biking, hanging out with friends, and all sorts of other fun things that come up. I haven't even mentioned the festivals this summer. It boggles my mind that anyone could be bored living here. I guess if your only idea of a good time is partying in a 23 story luxury condo with a group of shallow millionaires flashing all their wealth then you might have a tough time. -
oh, I forgot to add this too: if you want to spend a weekend in the mountains, pack up your car/truck, pop in some classic rock CD's, hop on the I-90 for a cruise, and in about 4-5 hours you will be right in the middle of the Adirondack Park, depending on what part you want to go to. I used to live right there myself (ADK park) because I love the outdoors and all the camping/hiking/fishing opportunities. But it got boring as hell after a while. Then I realized I could just live in the city and take trips whenever I felt like it. I've been doing it ever since, and strangely I never choose to head up in the midst of winter. And yeah, I said "the city." For some people that means NYC, for me it means Buffalo!

Buffalo has heart. It might sound dumb, cliche, cheezy, etc. but it is true nonetheless. Some cities have it, some don't. Buffalo is one that does. Having lived in Buffalo for about 5 years now, I actually get the feeling that it is in better shape today than it was in June of 2004. There is so much construction downtown, so many new projects on the drawing boards or in various stages of completion, new condos and apartments in the city, the zoo and the parks look better in the past few years than they have in recent memory. I could go on and on. You can drive around downtown and see several new or completely redone buildings that were not there when I arrived 5 years ago. Lots of things are happening. Is Buffalo perfect? Hell no! There are a LOT of problems here, just like anywhere else. But I really feel like this area is slowly moving in the right direction. It is going to take time but I have seen a level of citizen activism and a combination of small and large projects that bodes well for the future. Buffalo has so many strengths and advantages that go untapped. It's like this city is embarrassed to tell the world what is available here. That has to change somehow.
-
I agree, this is getting stupid..... There are PLENTY of nice places to live in the area.... How come TO is the only Bill or Sabre that can't seem to find decent housing? I guess all the other guys are slumming it up or staying in "places that my grandma would live in" as Owens put it on his Twitter page a while ago.... And before people start bashing the NHL, realize that Ryan Miller, Tim Connonly, Thomas Vanek, and Jason Pomminville make more than most Bills players. Hell, Vanek makes more than Owens. Ryan Miller makes about the same. I haven't seen either of them living under bridges.

you know what? If you're happy in Buffalo and have your reasons for wanting to be there, then nothing else matters. I live there after being away for a while. My friends are mostly here, my family is about 1-2 hours away, I have a good paying job, the Bills and Sabres are in town, there are tons of great places for food, art, and culture, and it is just the right sized area for me. You can always travel and explore other places, and I love doing that. But I also love little things like listening to Howard Simon talk about the Sabres/Bills on the way to work, going to Wegmans', getting together with my friends on sundays to watch Bills games, going to free Fridays at the Albright Knox, biking on the many miles of trails, the fishing, and the list goes on and on..... I get where you're coming from asking advice, but really, it's your life. I am the type of person who could never feel settled anywhere and moved all over the northeast when I was younger. I have found Buffalo to be a place where I feel at home. Nothing is perfect, but this feels like where I belong. Others desire other things. Winter can be tough, like anywhere in the northeast. Some people need the beaches, the hot weather, and the sun. Some have to have the bigger better deal, and that's OK. Some people like to live in a log cabin in the mountains.... I'll paraphrase John Adams: All the world may applaud your choices and decisions, but if they are not based on what is in your heart, all the applause in the world will ring empty.

I have friends all over the country from my time working in airlines. Every time I have had a friend visit and took them around the city and area, they are amazed at all the cool stuff that is here. People come up from New York City to see some of the cultural offerings. There is a lot here, people from WNY just seem to have some inferiority complex that is not deserved. Buffalo is not NYC. Then again, what city is?
