I don't think any team should have to put up with a guy who is awkward. I wouldn't sleep at night knowing they didn't adore his personality and quirky sense of humor. And I am deeply worried about his reported intelligence. Having an intelligent man on a football team presents a very big problem if your coaches and players are deeply stupid morons. I am going to go on record and say I don't care how well he throws or plays the game. I think we should go on losing, and losing, and losing, and losing and losing, and losing, and losing and losing, and losing like the stupid losing losers that we are. We have a tradition to uphold and our guys shouldn't be forced to be around a smart awkward guy. I think they should march into smart awkward Terrence Pegula's office and tell him they will not stand for having a smart awkward player on the team because they can barely stand being around him and two of them is too much to ask. And that he should keep his smart rich children away from the team as well because everyone hates well educated smart rich kids.

Random Babble From a Rabble

I will counter by saying at some point you have stop being the Browns. Sacrificing all that time and saving up, only to ultimately take a running back at #1, and then whatever quarterback was left over at #4, would be the most idiotically stupid thing I have ever seen a team do. I would say your plan of taking your qb at #1 then Barkely at #4 would not be bad at all. -

Hey thanks! So you thin I make sense 50% of the time? That's a new record for me. Don't act innocent. You pooh poohed him! You pooh poohed AJ McCarron, hero of TWO national championships, one the VERY DAY that we signed him. We were trying to be happy. I took it fairly well but Binghamton Beast was in tears. -

On the Foles part : Makes sense. Peterman I think had 3 days (Not to make this a Peterman thread) On the middle part re McCarron. The odds say he will not be so great. That's just reality. But how many times have you seen the starter go down and then be outperformed by the backup? That has happened plenty of times. The coaches down't always know because practice is practice and a game is different. On the last part, that is self inflicted. Teams (and players) do that to themselves by SUCKING MOOSE EGGS at providing enough chance for guys to develop. I have a ranting post coming one day about that. My short response is "Nice excuse guys get the job done" I read that one of the appeals of McCown is that he doesn't need many practice reps, because, you know, he is good at it by now. So they can let the backups practice more on the Jets. -
Tyrod named starting QB of Browns
BadLandsMeanie replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I never heard Hugh Jackson before. He creeps me out big time. Does anyone else think he is creepy? Anyway, watch their QB pick balk at coming in because he knows off the bat he won't even get a chance to start. I think one of them already did? Anyway, the Browns will be fun to watch this year I bet! -

I don't understand. What good would that do if they have the #1? -

Yes they get only a few. Sometimes they get none. Peterman got none fairly often. He would run the scout team which is something but it isnt the same as reps with the team. Speaking fro myself, I always knew and read how backups get fewer reps in camp and practice etc. But it never really sunk in for me until I went to camp and saw it. One guy gets 75% of the practice and the other gets 25. A "camp arm" guy we had one time got 2. 2 reps out of a 2 1/2 hour practice. He didn't have any chance at all to prove himself or get better. -

For example, that is where Sammy Watkins' money came from. Out of Mahome's pocket. They could over spend on Sammy because they have a cheap QB and another receiver on a rookie contract. -
This is what the Bills QB Board looks like imo
BadLandsMeanie replied to BuffaloBud420's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Im not crazy about Baker Mayfield but character wise, I can't shake the idea that he would have been the "Choir Boy" who needed to loosen up some if he was on the team back in Jimbo's day. -
Your icon shows the wrong end of the Buffalo. Nothing personal. We probably just won't get along because you are a different religion from me.

Well, if your intent was to not say what you were saying, I think you missed the mark. It is a bigoted post you made there.

Random Babble From a Rabble

I have to run so I will just make two brief remarks in rapidly and then maybe revisit later. I was mostly kidding about McDermott being hidden. I do think it is about public realtioes that we see Beane but I don't think for a second that McD isn't all over the choices they are making too. Thanks for all the background on Dorsey. But I have noticed that any time a GM invests a pick instead of going for the quick return, they can get n trouble. Mahomes had to sit for a year maybe that hurt Dorsey a little bit As for any running back #1 overall. This isn't 1970 is another short answer. The pay scale was just shorthand. It is about the value. This year especially someone will pay 3 firsts or the equivalent for that #1 spot and no running back is worth that nowadays. Maybe I am stupid, silly, and wrong, but I think it would be crazy. Look at it this way, the Browns are behind 17 points in the 4th quarter. What will Barkely be doing? Pass blocking. Yeah ok he is magic and he will get free and he will catch the ball and win. I don't believe it. We will see! What I see in him is a guy who hasn't faced NFL speed yet. It is a big if, to me, if somebody can still excell when facing that. In his highlights I saw mainly a guy who was very open for passes and also seemed to have great blocking. But here I may be stupid because I have only seen a few highlights. -
Ok so Im just a random non-premium seating, hot dog eating, man-on-the-streeting basic rabble fan. I just want to say a few things because I need to say something after that last few days. Those were stressy and exciting. Being a Rabble is liberating because the things I say don't have to make sense, and I have no reputation to lose. To all the press who made the mysterious tweets yesterday about the big, league shocking, stunning event that would be revealed, I won't forget that you did that. I think you got trolled too and didn't want to be left out, to seem like other knew and you didn't. So you made a mysterious tweet so you could say that you knew afterwards. And I will remember the guys who kept their mouths shut because there was nothing to say. I think it is cool that after that let down when nothing happened, that we were all delighted and stoked that we got AJ McCarron. We are pretty easy to please and so am I because I liked it too even though I know he is a 5th round drat pick who has been a backup and also nobody else took him. But I was happy go figure. (And a raspberry to you Mr Kelly the Dog! ) What made it better is that late last night that my personal QB guru friend told me that we got the best available QB outside of Jimmy Garopolo. Say what?? Now that sounds crazy I know but this fellow is right about QB more than anyone in the media. So that was cool. (And a rasberry to you Kelly the Dog let us have our fun the season will be here soon enough to shatter our dreams you monster). The last time the Browns GM made a deal with the Bills, he got fired. I think that's why they are hiding McDermott. They kinda want him to forget that he made the Mahomes deal in KC with McDermott and then got kicked to the curb for his trouble. So all we are seeing is Beane. The Browns GM will not take Barkely first. In short, because the top paid QB gets 3 1/2 times the money that the top running back does. So if he hits on the running back he saves ballpark 20 million dollars by having him on a rookie contract for 4 years. If he hits on a qb he saves 100 million dollars over 4 years by having him on a rookie contract. I think if McBeane didn't get lucky last year, and they really can scan the players and come up with undervalued guys who turn out great consistently, then they don't have to hurry and fill holes with a single draft. I also think they are trying to invent a new angle. Which is that you come to Buffalo on a one or two year deal, and Buffalo makes you look good through good coaching and game planning, then you get to leave for your payday. That is going to be pretty appealing to players if they can keep doing that for them. I am looking forward to the next few weeks of a slower paced free agency. I think they will make a move or two more. But the last few days was a bit too exciting even hough I enjoyed it. It messed with my sleep and everything.

Pundits are overvaluing Barkley. Look at it this way. The highest paid running back in the NFL is Devonta Freeman at 8.25 million per year. The highest paid quarterback and the highest paid player in the NFL is Kirk Cousins of all people at 28 million per year. So roughly 3 1/2 times more than the best paid running back. That shows how the positions are valued in the NFL. It would be really weird for a GM on a QB needy team to go ahead and pick a RB over a QB.

Browns are going QB with 1st pick
BadLandsMeanie replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think any writer who wrote that they will take Barkely at #1 is VERY wrong. It will be interesting to see. -
If the Browns take Barkely #1, my suggestion would be that they immediately execute Dorsey and bring back Sashi Brown before they get to their #4 overall pick. They will take their QB at #1. That is why I think we will trade up to 2 with the Giants if our guy is still there, unless Gettleman tips us off who he will take. If that happens I could see us trying to get into the #3 spot. Thats just how I see it.

Beane is young. He will learn fear. Once he learns fear he will need to be brave. Here is what I make of (Mc) Beane. First, he doesn't want a positive fan experience, or to sell tickets, or to have a successful business model or a regional brand. He wants to win. Everything he has done and will do is about forming a wining team. In that sense he is the exact opposite of Russ Brandon. Second, I don't think that he thinks he is being brave or bold or dashing or any of it. i think he just knows what he thinks he should do to win and is doing it. This is the job, this is what I need to do, and I am going to do it. That simple. Third, guys like that can become disliked. Guys who are rather ruthless. But he has not and I don't think he will become disliked because he is direct and honest about things. From the start he was forthright. He said guys need to do x,y,and z or they won't be here. Some of the guys didn't get the memo about x , y, or maybe z, and now they are gone. Hard to fault a man who tells you what you need to do because aside from your talent and ability, it is up to you if you do it or not. Un-relatedly, I think you mention Tyrod in the way you did at peril of derailing your thread into a Tyrod thread which isn't your manifest purpose.

I say we will not draft a QB round 1
BadLandsMeanie replied to mead107's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it is possible because I think the trades that they have made so far are good ones on their own. 1st pick of the 3rd round for Tyrod who was going to be expensive and wasn't doing well enough here to warrant it. They moved from 21 to 12 by trading a tackle who was also expensive and has been lame for 2 years now. To me those are good moves if they get a qb or not. But I think they will get one , if they see one, because they are young and are going to go for it. Plus Beane might survie if they don't pick for a few years but McDermott will be gone if we stink for few years because we haven't got a QB. Those two work together so i think Beane will get him his man and they will put McCarron out there to take the beating behind the **** line this year. -
Har dee harr harr. Yeah maybe he will be safe at that. But I want to say that I have seen a lot of quarterbacks who didn't have it. Remember I have been going to Bills camp for 15 years now. And I wish that was funny. So I don't know if Peterman is going to be any good or not. But for sure, to me, he isn't one of the guys who just doesn't have it.
-
I stumbled across this. It is weird. And maybe funny. But they have some decent information.
-
That would be good if they think he won't get snatched up.
-
Yes. He gave him unsafe throws and plenty of them. Like he was a seasoned guy. And he made no adjustment to keep Bosa off him. It was nuts., Usually a rookie in his first game does nearly nothing except hand off and throw sideline passes. Let alone a guy who did not prepare in camp as a starter and only got the nod a few days before the game. So how many full practices as a starter did he have? 3? 4? It was like Dennison thought Peterman was amazing and just threw him in full speed. I don't think Peterman had a prayer.
