Marcell Dareus, Lead us to a Super Bowl. Hope springs eternal.

I don't buy the Gabbert rumors at all. Nor do I think Fairley is an option, unless we find a partner to trade down. These have the classic markings of 11th hour smokescreens. This is stating the obvious, but it is in the Bills' best interest to have as many players as possible floated as possible targets so as to entice other teams to trade up or to simply throw other teams off the scent. In other words, let's say the Skins want Gabbert. If they buy into the idea that the Bills might take him at #3, they might be more willing to trade up to #2 to grab him, thereby making available one of the players the Bills actually want (i.e. Dareus or Miller).

4th Annual Reddy Freddy Draft Contest

Giving this a bump, in the hopes that we don't have a contest with 2 people in it ... -
The last few years I've offered up a $25 Amazon gift card to anyone who can correctly predict the Bills' first 3 selections in the draft. No one has done it yet (although MattyT got 2 of 3 two years ago), but maybe this is the year! The rules are simple: 1) Simply give me three names (first and last). No need to provide pick numbers, positions, or college attended (although you may if you like). Just three names, in any order. If the three names you give are the same as the three names of the Bills' first three picks, you win the gift card. 2) Whether the Bills trade up or down is irrelevant. The winner of the contest will correctly give the names of the first three college players the Bills pick, regardless of when the Bills pick them. 3) If more than one person gets it right, the gift card will go to the person who was the first to post their picks in this thread. 4) Please enter only once. If you need to change your picks, please clearly indicate in the thread that you are forfeiting your previous entry and submitting a new one. 5) Sorry, but no prize for getting 2 of 3, or if one of the three names you give is the fourth or fifth guy the Bills draft. You must hit all three of the Bills' first three players selected. I'll start with my projections: Von Miller, Phil Taylor, Andy Dalton FYI, here's the link to last year's contest.

If nothing else, this season should settle the age-old debate: Is it the QB or the offensive line? It should now be clear to anyone with a pair of eyes that QB -- not offensive line -- is far and away the most important piece to the puzzle on any team. I know people think they sound knowledgeable when they say it all comes down to what happens in the trenches, but that's simply not the case. A good QB makes up for a lot of deficiencies, including on the o-line. This is largely the same group of linemen we had last year, except for undrafted rookie Wrotto. Yet the line looks light years better this year. The difference, of course, is that we have competent -- and occasionally excellent -- play from the QB this season. Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying the line doesn't matter. But a lot of teams excel with sub-par lines because they have very good QBs. The Packers and Colts come to mind. There is greater margin for error on the o-line than at QB. At the end of the day, they are all big, strong, 300+ pound men pushing each other around. Sure, some are better than others, but the gap isn't as great as it is at QB. For years I've heard Bills fans excuse piss-poor QB play under the false premise that "no one could throw behind this o-line." If nothing else, Fitzy has proven them wrong.

For what it's worth, here's a scouting report from the year he was drafted. It seems to be pretty complimentary of his arm strength. Then again, it also says he has great accuracy on short passes:

Wow - good catch. What are the odds of the Bills ending up with 4 out of 10?

Not sure if this was posted around draft time or since, but I just stumbled across it and thought I'd share. Also note Danny Batten and Levi Brown made the list. I wonder if Banks' sources were all Bills' scouts haha

NFL Execs expect Gathier trade
Reddy Freddy replied to WordByrd's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude, are you serious? Are you so downtrodden by years of Bills' ineptitude that you are so easily swayed? So the Ravens are saying they haven't gotten a good enough offer yet. Do you think this could possibly be posturing on their part to try to squeeze out a better offer from the Bills and/or any other team making offers for Gaither? When trades like this happen, there is a lot of posturing on both sides. The Bills probably leaked the idea that they might trade with the Saints for Brown in order to leverage things with the Ravens. Now the Ravens are leaking that the offers aren't good enough. It's all gamesmanship. That doesn't mean the Bills will get him, but he sure as hell is on the block. He's not really sitting out practice with a "foot injury." -
NFL Execs expect Gathier trade

Plus Peters was a Pro-Bowler when we traded him. Regardless of what we think about Peters, he was regarded more highly when we traded him that Gaither is now. -
That's what she said.

My 2 cents ... Sorry to see Tim go, but let's not forget that he visits this board in large part to help him do his job -- not entirely out of some magnanimous charity effort. He comes here to see what's on the mind of Bills fans, and perhaps to pick up some interesting perspectives on Bills news from time to time. Odds are he will still visit TSW, even if he doesn't post. I've known a lot of sportswriters. Trust me, they're no more knowledgeable than many of the posters on this board.

3rd Annual Reddy Freddy Draft Contest

Everyone (understandably) had a rough go. Kudos to everyone who at least got Spiller, and especially to Rfeynman for hitting Troup. Better luck to all next year. -
Is it time for the nevergiveup Bat Signal?

Mike Lombardi: Bills will take a QB in Rd. 1
Reddy Freddy replied to Deep2Moulds46's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. It's much more likely that we trade down in the first round and grab one of the QBs than trade up from the second round. We need bodies. I wouldn't be opposed to trading down a couple times to stockpile several more picks in the top 3 rounds. -

Adam_Schefter Here are the known no's on interest in Roethlisberger right now: Rams, Bills. Others might not be, just not known yet. -
So we're trusting this link over my link? It's a battle of links! I will admit, it surprised me when I read that about Long and Thomas, but is Peter King just wrong? Maybe so.
