Matt Leinart is a Bill - Schefter
Reddy Freddy replied to dayman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Call me crazy, but I'm actually kind of excited about seeing what Leinart can do. He's no worse than Kolb, in my opinion, and probably still has a higher ceiling, even at age 30. I mean he's only gotten a chance to start, what, 16 or 17 games in the NFL? OK, maybe I am crazy. -
DeadSpin - Convo Between Nix and Tampa GM

The most interesting comment to me was Buddy acknowledging that it's a bad time to need a QB. This is probably obvious to most, but it at least gives some indication that they're not thrilled with this draft's crop of QBs. -
If the Bills win out, however unlikely that scenario is by itself, it appears they'd have somewhere between a 25% and 50% chance of making the playoffs. Here is one such scenario for the sake of argument (there are, of course, several others): 1) Bills win out 2) Bengals lose to Cowboys and Ravens, beat Eagles and Steelers 3) Steelers lose to Charger and Bengals, beat Cowboys and Browns Bills get the #6 seed if this happens. As is always the case, #1 is by far the least likely part of this scenario. It seems to me that in order for the Bills to have a realistic chance even if they were to win out, they need losses this week from the Steelers vs SD and the Bengals vs. Dallas. One other interesting note: If the Steelers beat the Bengals in week 16 and finish 9-7, the only way the Bills can make the playoffs is if the Steelers 2 losses come against the Chargers this week and the Browns in week 17. So it seems to me we have an easier path if the Bengals win that week 16 game vs. Pitt. OK, back to reality haha

OK, this might be a stretch, but does anyone else see a little Victor Cruz in his game? -
TEBOW!!! is a Jet! (finally)
Reddy Freddy replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get why people are afraid of the Tebow circus, but count me among those who think this is a no-brainer for a fifth-rounder. Tebow has started less than one full season. Considering his lack of experience and the time needed to adjust to the NFL, his body of work in that time is undeniably impressive. He took over for a 1-4 team and led them to the playoffs. Say what you want about their defense, but the fact remains that the team and defense Tebow inherited was exactly 5-20 in their previous 25 games going back to the 2010 season. 5-20, and the only real change was Tebow. His completion percentage is low, but that's true of a lot of young QBs. Blaine Gabbert's completion was percentage was roughly the same last season, but people don't have such vehement hatred for him as a QB. I think it's pretty clear that people dislike Tebow primarily for two reasons, neither of which have to do with football: One, he gets a ton of publicity. And two, he talks about God a lot. Well here's the opinion of one Bills fan (who happens to not be religious at all): A mid-to-low round pick for Tebow is a steal. -
Robert Meachem visits Bills, signs with SD

That about sums it up. Making history for all the wrong reasons. Such is life as a Bills fan. -
Yes, I may be clinically insane.

Up until yesterday, I thought there was a decent chance the Bills could get in the playoffs at 9-7. But that scenario was based on the idea that we would beat the Jets and therefore have a fighting shot at winning a 3- or 4-way tiebreaker situation. Now that we definitely lose a tie to the Jets, winning out is probably the only realistic way to make it, and even that is no sure thing. Would have been nice if the Browns could have held on vs. the Bengals yesterday. I still think they are capable of a collapse down the stretch. All that said, I am with you and the OP in holding out hope until the math doesn't work. For me, it's just more entertaining to watch the games with some hope - however small - that there could be a postseason for the Bills. -

Can't disagree with any of that. Except the part about smoking crack. -
None of the AFC wild card contenders is good
Reddy Freddy replied to Reddy Freddy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good point. With my favorite team one game out of a playoff spot with 6 games to go, I probably should scream and yell, write them off, and convince myself they won't win another game for at least 17 more years. Because, ya know, that makes sense. -

Uh....I said the "last" wild card. Pitt would be in the first wild card slot at the moment. Haha sorry to interrupt everyone's temper tantrum/pity party. I should have known better. -

Given the Bills' performances the first 7 weeks of the season, who saw them getting destroyed the next 3 weeks in a row? Things change. It's not likely and the Bills aren't a good team right now, but chances are that at least one team that is not very good will make the playoffs. none1 [nuhn] pronoun 1. no one; not one: None of the members is going. None can be singular or plural. And it's "they are not" not "they are no." Plus you misspelled "mathematically" and "performance." Next time you correct someone's grammar you should make sure 1) you are correct and 2) you don't sound stupid by having mistakes in your correction. -
In case you haven't noticed, of the current contenders for the last wild card spot, only Cincy has won more games than Buffalo. None of those teams is good. I know some of you want to throw a temper tantrum and write off the Bills because they've looked terrible the last 3 weeks, but momentum can change quickly in the NFL. I think a 9-7 team will get a wild card this year. Find a way to beat the Jets next week and they're right back in solid position, amazingly.

10-6 and making the playoffs
Reddy Freddy replied to Ozymandius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it's very possible that 9-7 makes it this year, if tiebreakers fall our way. I give the East to the Pats because of their easy remaining schedule and I give one of the wild cards to the Ravens or Steelers (whoever doesn't win the North). To get the other one, we have to beat out the Bengals (6-3), Jets (5-4), and Titans (5-4), and several teams that have worse records than us. We obviously play the Jets and Titans still, so those games will be key. If we beat both of them and then play even with them the rest of the year, we would be ahead of them. The Bengals are tougher because they have a game lead on us and they beat us, but I think it's very possible they collapse down the stretch. I could definitely see a 3 or 4 way tie at 9-7 for the last wild card. Conference record could be the decider. If we don't make the playoffs, I have a feeling that Bengals loss will be the one that keeps us out. -
Charley Casserly, CBS Sports on the Bills

A shrink would have a field day with the psychology of the average Bills fan. Literally TWO WEEKS AGO (14 days ago) we were sitting at 5-2 and coming off a shutout win. Two bad games later and we're terrible? The Ryan boys stop the Bills offense for a couple games and that means the league has figured us out? Come on ... And the really weird part is that some people on this board actually seem to get some satisfaction out of being able to say the Bills suck again. It's like a part of them is happy they don't have to get their hopes up about the Bills again, only to be let down. People, it's two bad games. It's true that when you're winning it feels like you can never lose, and when you're losing it feels like you can never win. But seasons have ebbs and flows. No one is this league is that great, aside from the Packers. The Ravens have lost to the Jags and the Seahawks. The Niners are 8-1 with largely the same talent they had last year. I'm not counting the Bills out against anyone. We're going to beat the Dolphins, which will set up another monster game vs. the Jets. Find a way to win that, and we're 7-4 and in very good playoff position. This self-loathing nonsense has to stop. -
Always good to see Pats lose, but this game could end up hurting us at the end of the year if we're fighting for a Wild Card.

Agree to disagree. Even individual performances are wildly skewed in preseason. Vick threw 3 interceptions in part of a game vs. Pitt the other night. He threw a total of 6 all of last season. -

The Bills will probably be really bad this season, but it has nothing to do with how they look tonight. No matter how much everyone rants and raves like petulant children, there is almost zero correlation between preseason performance and regular season performance. If the Bills were up by 3 touchdowns right now, it wouldn't mean they would have a good season. Do yourself a favor and save your frustration for September. -

4th Annual Reddy Freddy Draft Contest
Reddy Freddy replied to Reddy Freddy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, once again we have no winner this year. However, a big shout out to thebandit27, who got 2 out of 3 correct (Dareus and Sheppard). Several others hit either Dareus or Sheppard, but only thebandit got both of them. Also a shout out to Thoner7, who gave the Bills Hairston in the 3rd. Next year we're going to make it the top 2 picks, instead of 3! -
Agreed. I think the Bills brain trust's greatest frustration with the team last year was their utter incompetence at defending the run. It's a fatal flaw in any team. Getting the draft's consensus top defensive lineman and the draft's consensus top inside linebacker would be a pretty good step toward fixing the problem.
