Who are some possible future gm's for the bills?
Orton's Arm replied to 2003's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope you're wrong. If the Bills go 5-11, or even 4-12, there is a good chance TD will get the boot. So let's hope for lots of losses, instead of a mirage like last season's late rally. That way we can get a good GM, as well as a nice high draft choice. -
So with next years Top 10 draft choice.....
Orton's Arm replied to ROCCEO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe they should take a long, hard look at a 5'10" receiver in the first round of the 2006 draft. Or they could use the pick on some other offensive skill position. That seems to be TD's way. -
The difference between Gregg and MM

By that logic, Willis McGahee is a bad player, because he had a bad game. (His performance would have been okay considering his opportunities, had it not been for that fumble.) -
Who's the best QB we've played in '05?
Orton's Arm replied to AKC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most would agree that Belichick is a very good head coach, and more able to overcome adversity than most. Last year he won the Super Bowl with practically his whole starting secondary out with injury. It's annoying to hear this stuff from a Patriots fan, but I haven't seen posts where Hollywood is rubbing our noses in this stuff. I'm sure he's the only person on this board who has something negative to say about Bledsoe. Um, this comment in a thread in which Hollywood suggested Bulger was the best QB we faced all year? About half the people who voted said Brady was the best QB we've faced this year. Comments like this make you seem biased, and draw into question your analysis of Hollywood's 1500 posts. Of course, the fact you took the time to read through 1500 posts in the first place says that maybe you're taking this a little too seriously. If you're going to accuse Hollywood of being a Belichick/Brady sycophant, your case would be stronger if you could provide links to his more egregious posts. -

MM never said he was a poor coach, but at least he's willing to admit when he messes up, and so learn from his mistakes. -

Maybe we should hire someone from Bill Polian's staff. The early '90s Bills--I mean the Colts--are doing quite well right now. -
What do you think the Bills record
Orton's Arm replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In both games, the Bills' offense as a whole was dominated by the other team's defense as a whole. No running game in either case, no pass protection. Putting up 17 points under those circumstances--as Holcomb did at Oakland--is impressive. -
Best Bills Day 1 Pick of the 2002 Draft

This has to have been the most depressing poll I've seen on these boards. Hopefully we'll find a better GM after this year. -

And yet even under those circumstances you couldn't resist taking a cheap shot at Holcomb. -
Gregg Williams: we called the plays, and the players didn't execute. --------------------------- Fan: "What has caused the defense to miss tackles and assignments? Is it poor coaching or execution?" MM: "Coaching is always a part of it. It all starts with coaching." http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=3502

Who's the best QB we've played in '05?
Orton's Arm replied to AKC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To say that a QB who has yet to throw for 200 yards is clearly better than a guy who's thrown for over 400 yards twice is jumping the gun, wouldn't you say? -
Or maybe I'm just a Bills fan who enjoys rooting for individual players, as well as the whole team. My favorite type of player is the guy who gets the most mileage out of the talent he's been given. Holcomb falls into that category. Right now there aren't a whole lot of other Bills players about whom that can be said.

If Holcomb didn't sleep with your sister, stop acting like he did. He's humble, he's smart, he works hard. I haven't heard anything about him fathering children out of wedlock, or having sex with minors, or murdering ex-wives. If you think Losman has a bright future ahead of him and just needs some experience to realize that future, fine. But don't take it out on Holcomb. As a football player and a human being, Holcomb deserves better. -

No mention of the missed block that caused the fumble? Maybe that play was all the QB's fault. Maybe that play was another sign TD should use yet more draft picks on QBs while ignoring the offensive line. Yeah, the play call was great, and Holcomb was the only problem. Going into the New England game, Roscoe Parrish had as many NFL starts as Roscoe P. Coltrain, so why not make this 5'10" receiver the primary option? Why not use the one guy who could catch a pass in double coverage--Eric Moulds--as a decoy? -

Did Holcomb sleep with your sister or something? -
Holcomb came here, he worked very hard, kept his mouth shut, and made the best out of a bad offense. Over the course of his career, he's done well with the limited opportunities he's been given. To call him overpaid demonstrates a shocking disconnect with reality.

Ryan Leaf had plenty of talent too. Talent alone won't buy you a cup of coffee. In a few years we'll have a better idea as to whether he's more of a Leaf or a Manning. -
I'd welcome 5-11. It would be a chance for high draft choices, as well as needed managment changes. Not to mention an opportunity to get rid of aging, overpaid veterans.

Sounds like you have something personal against him. All he did was say that Bulger was the best QB the Bills have faced this year. Maybe I'm not sensitive enough to insults, but I didn't find his praise of Bulger insulting at all. -
Sacrificial lambs are needed.

Cutting Bobby Shaw seemed to give the team a kick in the pants last year. Doing the same thing again would make sense. -
Very funny!

New England looks for a very specific type of offensive lineman: smart, very tough, a guy with a lot of heart. In comparison to most other teams, New England places more emphasis on these things, and less on athletic ability. That's why they've been able to find their type of players later on in the draft. If you think players like Bennie Anderson, Trey Teague, or Mike Gandy would be successful parts of New England's offensive line, you're mistaken.
-
While I take issue with judging one player by the record of an entire team, I strongly agree that Holcomb makes the line look a lot better. Holcomb may be the most underrated player on this team.

Excellent point. -
An excellent post overall, but I'll take issue with the coaching part. Yes, the Bills have coaching problems on defense--which TD created by indirectly firing Cottrell. But I have higher hopes for the offensive coaching, especially now that Mularkey is calling the plays.
