Russ Grimm for offensive coordinator!!
Orton's Arm replied to Orton's Arm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tennessee had a winning tradition back when Gregg was its defensive coordinator. The Browns had mixed results back when Belichick was the head coach. You can't just say, "Coach X was on a team that won more games than the team Coach Y was on, so X is the better coach." As Lori points out, you have to look at what the coaches in question have done with the talent they've been given. Both Wyche and Grimm have a strong understanding of football and of X's and O's, and either would make a good offensive coordinator. -
Russ Grimm for offensive coordinator!!

Wyche invented the no-huddle offense. The coordinator just sits in a nice, quiet booth, so his voice problems shouldn't be a concern. Given a choice, I'd pick Grimm over Wyche anyway, but I'd be happy with either. -
Russ Grimm for offensive coordinator!!

Another good reason to hire him. Let me ask you this question: if the final candidates for offensive coordinator came down to Grimm and Wyche, which would you prefer? -

Good find. I like the fact he has experience with the TE position in addition to the o-line. -
Russ Grimm for offensive coordinator!!

This has got to be the least contentious thread I've ever started! -
The Steelers' offensive line coach, Russ Grimm has received serious consideration for head coaching vacancies. Assuming he doesn't get a head coaching position, I think he should be the Bills' offensive coordinator.

Cottrell is clearly better than Gray, but neither is as good as Wade. Bring back Wade!

Would you trade Losman for Eli?
Orton's Arm replied to billsboys's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OF COURSE you trade Losman for Eli. That's a no-brainer. -
There was no point in giving up the Henry rights for Shelton, because Shelton was released anyway. If we wanted, we could have had both the 3rd round draft pick from the Titans and Shelton. Personally, I would have offered Clements and Henry as a package in exchange for the Cardinals' first round pick. The Cards had needs at both CB and RB, so they'd be killing two birds with one stone. Then I would have traded down, and used the first round pick to take Matt Jones as a replacement for Eric Moulds. The second round pick I'd have gotten from trading down could have been used on an OL.

Saban contacts Dom Capers about position.

Either Capers or Cottrell would be a huge upgrade over Jerry Gray. -
Pats will win the Super Bowl...again
Orton's Arm replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Only one team has appeared in more than two consecutive Super Bowls, and that's Buffalo. I'll be rooting for the Broncos to win this week, and (if necessary) the Colts to win the week after. -
Sorry to rain on your parade, but Eli Manning's rating for 2005 is 75.9, while Losman's is just 64.9.

How come Jacksonville plays at NE?
Orton's Arm replied to Maylocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In general, I think a team that finishes second (and 12-4) in a tough division deserves a higher seed than a team that wins a joke division by going 9-7. But this doesn't apply to Jacksonville, because their schedule was as soft as Theisman's head. Based on their performance against NE, I question what Jacksonville was doing in the playoffs in the first place. -
Why the he!! did we fire Steve Szabo????
Orton's Arm replied to Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Our secondary was a pillar of strength in a sea of chaos. Contributing to this strength were Nate Clements' severely deteriorated level of play, the disappearance of Milloy and Vincent, and the failure of backup CBs to live up to the hype. -
Here's what the Bills should do now
Orton's Arm replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The plan is deeply flawed. You accomplish nothing by replacing Holcomb with a Brooks. If your goal is to make JP a backup, Brooks would be a worse starter than Holcomb. If your goal is to have JP not get supplanted by the veteran, Brooks would be worse, because he's more likely to show Flutie-like flashes without being able to back them up over the long haul. If your goal is to find a QB who will help JP learn, Brooks would be worse, because he'd view Losman as a competitor rather than a pupil. Secondly, and more importantly, this plan doesn't adequately address the offensive line. You can't just throw together a few free agents and expect to have a top-ten line. Build the offensive line through the draft. -
I don't agree with you often, but this time I'm going to.

Will Marv Look at M. Milliams the same way
Orton's Arm replied to Nick in RaChaCha's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've read through literally thousands of posts on these boards, and this is the first one crediting Hank Bullough with anything! This gets my post of the week award. -
Of course people aren't hired because of, as you put it, simple gene expressions. How many women coaches do you see in the NFL? I'm not saying there should be women coaches, mind you.

Now that Marv is in the picture, will he
Orton's Arm replied to Rayzer32's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Losman was starting, I'd double team Evans long before Moulds. Wouldn't you? Next year is a rebuilding year, and I'm not sure how eager they should be to keep an aging and expensive WR. -
Oh God here it goes.... Its blow Brusky TIME!!
Orton's Arm replied to NavyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What else did you expect from a pregame show? They have to talk about something, and latley they've gotten away from the more serious football stuff to try to draw in marginal fans. -
What worries me is NE is peaking at just the right time. Hopefully the Jaguars at least beat the tar out of them to the point where they won't play so well next week.

Guess we won't be drafting Marcus Vick
Orton's Arm replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Dolphins need a QB. New Mexico and Ricky could share a room and marijuana joints! The Patriots could use some depth at the QB position. New Mexico and Harrison could share stories about how to get away with cheap shots. The Titans need a mobile QB to be the heir to McNair. New Mexico and Travis could share underage girls! -
First off, I'll agree with Simon that TD's first year (3-13) should be ignored because he was cleaning up the salary cap mess. I'm not willing to ignore the four subsequent playoff free years. The three most important areas of a team are QB, OL, and DL. After five years, there is uncertainty at QB, nobody worthy of being a starter on OL, and maybe one starter-worthy player on the DL. That's pathetic. TD has only acquired two proven offensive skill position players: McGahee and Evans. He has only drafted three starter-worthy defensive players in the back seven: Crowell, McGee, and Clements. And it looks like Clements will walk. Too much of the success the Bills had in those 8-8 and 9-7 years was based on quick-fix free agent solutions, instead of building through the draft. Unfortunately, those free agents got old in a hurry, which is why the team is now in rebuilding mode.
-
To be honest I'm not that worried about coaching, as long as Jerry Gray gets replaced. I envision Sam Wyche being the offensive coordinator, some fired head coach being the defensive coordinator. I also envision Marv selecting self-motivated players who will give everything they have whether they have a rah-rah coach or not.

Levy signing a joke...
Orton's Arm replied to ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We do? Lawyer Milloy and Troy Vincent have very little left in the tank. Nate Clements was anything but "the playmaker." McGee played well in the secondary, but he wasn't a shutdown corner or anything. The backup SS is Coy Wire. The backup CBs got heavily picked on in the Bengals game after McGee sat out a series. So the depth in the secondary might not be as good as advertised.
