You did a good job of selecting your examples, but here goes: Tiger & Kobe: The biggest stars in their sports. Tiger, by FAR the biggest star in his. So, they're bigger stories. McGwire/Clemens/Bonds: First, McGwire avoided the question, but did not lie. Second, Clemens hasn't escaped trouble yet. Third, Bonds is a prize a88hole, and sometimes that comes back to bite you. (So is Clemens, which probably is why he hasn't escaped trouble yet.) Here's some counterexamples: the Duke lacrosse players versus Michael Irvin. Jesse Jackson versus Jim Bakker or Gary Hart. Craig MacTavish versus Leonard Little or Donte Stallworth. It's not always about race. With sports, especially, I think the field is more level, compared to other areas of endeavor.

You're right, it is not significant. I can't believe that NFL fans ever would criticize the amount of commercial break time in any other sport, much less NHL hockey. Plus, the lack of commercials makes little difference in the length of an Olympic hockey game. They still take the breaks to clear the ice at least twice per period.

But their former slogan still sticks in your head, right? Anyway, I do believe that NBC tried to get its market right for this one; I'm not sure it succeeded. They may have screwed this one up, but (as has been stated over and over above and also on SabreSpace), they pretty much HAD to bet on figure skating. (And for those crying about HD, I ended up watching it with friends on SD. Game looked fine. The puck was easy to follow. I think USA won, but if it had been in HD, I would be sure.)

So here's the question: Is there going to be an embargo on doughnuts and strippers? Because even Harper has to be embarrassed right now.

Is it possible that more people have MSNBC in HD than USA in HD? (I have both; I have no idea which is more popular nationwide.) BTW, for those of you with Time Warner in Buffalo, the game is in HD on 718.

It seems that way for us hockey fans, but as a couple of people have mentioned, figure skating probably is a bigger draw for NBC.

The "fever" is because several QBs who were so-called no-names in college, among them Messrs. Brady, Roethlisberger, Warner, and Flacco, have had some success in the NFL, prompting everyone to look at under-considered QBs as the future of the team. Cf. the early 90s, when everyone had to be into some no-name grunge band. As for LeFevour, I think you underrate him somewhat; he'd be a good fourth-round pick, and maybe a decent third-round pick.
