Take it slow and easy Buckeyemike! Can Buckeye Donuts (High Street) still be part of the plan? I used to study there late at night with 75 cent apple fritters and countless cups of coffee (or cupa coffee as we say in Buffalo). That place used to be packed with Middle Eastern students smoking like chimneys. They used to help me with my calculus as math for me might as well have been Mandaran Chinese. Listen to the Doc!!!

"Aren't yous going down to the VFW (doubleya) to pick up my third brother in law on the way to the local on the way to my second cousins from my mothers side?" "In a heart beat, after I pound some luncheon meat"

You are right now that I think of it. Saleski was the victim. Good memory! Wasn't O'Reilly in the middle of things that one night Schoenfeld had about three fights against the Bruins (Cashman, Orr) including one that went through the Zamboni entrance down at the Aud?

He wore number 2, which has been retired.

http://buffalonews.com/sports/teamsleagues/sabres.asp It doesn't change my image of Horton that alcohol and painkillers contributed to his death. I remember him as playing younger that he was. He was a solid defenseman. One night Horton got in a fight with Dave Schultz and Horton pounded him. I couldn't believe it! He was also a great mentor for Jim Schoenfeld. A while back, I was at a Tim Horton's in Montreal (where all the beignets have French names) and wondered why they had no mention anywhere of who Tim Horton was. I wrote the company suggesting that in each of the stores that have a plague or something explaining who Tim Horton was. The company (which is now owned by Wendy's) responded by saying they would get back to me but they never did. I would think that it would be useful for marketing purposes to feature Tim Horton's likeness. Maybe the family didn't want Tim's likeness to be exploited in a tacky manner. I believe Mrs Horton passed away not too long ago. As for Larry Carriere (mentioned in the article), I remember him getting in a fight one night and knocking his opponent out cold. I believe it was against the Canadiens.

A friend of mine from a public school (Bennett High) went to Columbia. However, your point is relevant. It is very competive to get into the top schools and very frustrating for those who seem to have the grades and the SAT/ACT scores to be rejected for some of the reasons that you mentioned. Community service seems to also carry some weight. But does that community service also apply to those who have plea bargained? I am glad that I am past all that stress.

One thing the Chargers were determined to do was to get a quality quarterback. They have one for sure in Brees and possibly a second in Rivers. They are in a position of strength when it comes to dealing off one of the two qbs. The Bolts clearly have their running back and seem to have drafted well especially with their offensive line. Picking up Keenan McCardell worked wonderfully. They could / should have won their playoff game against the Jets. The playoff loss should help them move up even further as the anger of losing something that they easily could have won serves as a motivator. And if they get a guy like Mike Williams? Yikes, the Bolts may be on their way. -
You are correct. The Bills haven't upgraded either line. I wasn't writing in the past tense, I was writing theoretically of the future. We can't yet tell if the Bills upgraded at quarterback either.

Scotland soccer fans, boo during moment of silence
Spun replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The comments made about the Pope being perceived and treated differently in Scotland than here may be very relevant. It is my understanding that in some European countries some of the locals boo their own anthems as opposed to the stoic silence displayed during the playing of the US anthem. Sometimes customs differ in ways that are difficult to understand. I am not Catholic but I would not boo the Pope. I don't view such expression as warranted and in my culture such expression is looked down upon. -
The Pats still have the capability to breeze regardless of who they play. I am hoping this trend ends soon. In recent years, the Bills simply didn't match up well against the Pats. With an upgrade on both lines and the emergence of a mobile quarterback maybe things will change.

What Dolphin Fans Think of Buff-Miami Rivalry
Spun replied to ChasBB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rivalries peak and fade. Sometimes the value is because one team predominates over another for a long time such as Bills-Dolphins in the '70s, Bills-Pats currently, and Chargers-Raiders historically. Usually the team on the losing end harbors more hatred. Sometimes the value is because the rivalry is competitive and/or has historical significance 49ers-Cowboys, Raiders-Chiefs. The Raiders-Steelers and Raiders-Dolphins always seems to have significance in part because of the past success of each team. Some teams seem to have a rivalry with everybody because of their popularity ex: Cowboys, 49ers and Raiders. The ingredients help stir the pot. Most Bills fans still hate Brian Cox and his middle finger but he was great for the Bills-Dolphins rivalry. Louis Oliver's long interception return also left some prolonged animosity. The Bills-Dolphins rivalry hasn't been the same since Kelly and Marino left the game. In those days, both quarterbacks could produce great drama and neither team could be counted out.. The rivalry will rise again once both the Bills and Dolphins are competive. I hope that isn't any time soon as the Bills have quite a bit of catching up to do. -

Then I will pull for Cablevision. I know it seems like an impossible dream but an economically healthy Buffalo could mean a very different and hopefully better Buffalo. On that note Cablevision is up: http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=CVC&d=t

I don't know why they can't keep it in the South but then again they have had NBA All Star games in the North. And as for the NHL, errr... Never mind. They also have the ballet in Windsor don't they? http://www.superbowl.com/features/detroit

Unless there is more to the story that I am unaware of, I thought the Adelphia and Buffalo marriage went the way of the Edsel? How would Cablevision change that? I would like a stadium downtown as I think it could be instrumental in a downtown renaissance. Fiscally, I am skeptical that Buffalo and New York State could pull it off in the foreseeable future.

(OT) Did anybody see the hockey clip on...

Very resourceful! Thanks! -
It is a video of "another" one of those lacrosse type goals with the shooter putting the stick between his legs before scooping and firing. I believe it was a game played in Ontario. I originally saw this on San Diego TV (yeah, imagine that!) about a week ago and I heard it was on last Sunday's George Michael's Sports Machine. It has to be seen. Does anybody know more about this goal? Any web replays?

The NFL game in Mexico should be cancelled!!
Spun replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why would you want to frequent Tijuana? There are a lot of hardworking, good people in TJ but there truly are also a lot of dirtbags looking for non-Mexicans to kill, stab, jump, rob and extort (Policia). Spend your money, time, piss and spit on this side. TJ is a very dangerous and thankless experience. That is why so many TJ locals migrate legally and illegally to the North. The urine bag experience is not unique to Mexico. About two months ago, Mexico was playing in Costa Rica facing the same sort of projectiles. The fans in Costa Rica's stadium are much closer to the field which makes the problem even worse. I suppose a counter to the Osama chant would be Cortez. If it is worth it to anybody, taunt away. After 9/11, Mexico suffered greatly from the increased security and limited attention from the Bush administration as more serious issues took precedence. I don't know how funny that is for a Mexico that needs increased commerce and improved diplomacy between the US and Mexico. -
Fascinating photos. The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site (Wilcox Mansion) is on Delaware Avenue. Here is their web site: http://www.nps.gov/thri/pphtml/facilities.html I have often wondered about what kind of relics, photos and data the Buffalo Historical Society has stuffed away in it's storage area.

OK....who here has watched film of Tim Anderson
Spun replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ten cent wings can take care of that... Last seasom, the Bills d-line was pretty good at run stuffing but as for a pass rush there were too many times when the rush would get an initial surge and stall. This was especially true against the Pats and the Steelers. It would be nice to do better. -
Maybe to avoid polar bears and wild boars? It is rather strange how these people seem to so comfortably travel back and forth from the beach to the cave knowing such threats exist. Also, they seemed to get past the torching of the first boat / raft a little quick. Fights also seem to be forgotten fairly quickly. At some point Danielle cracked. Who is next? Nobody seems to be significantly traumatized by the whole ordeal. I wonder if disease may soon play a factor with the people or the dog. The creators have reasons for including many of the details. Why is the dog included?

The Watkins Film School site: http://www.watkins.edu/degree/film/ One interesting thing about the school is shared copyright (student and school) for the student projects. Some schools take complete ownership. Tuition is typically healthy for a film school: Full-time (12 or more credit hours): $10,080 annually or $5,040 per semester. Part-time (less than 12 credit hours): $420 per credit hour.
