  1. What do you know about employment in Toronto's film industry? Beyond the immigration issues, is it a sizable enough industry to find film work in TO?
  2. There are probably some in the big market cities that see Sidney Crosby landing in Buffalo in similar terms to your Carolina example. I understand your point. I want to see Crosby as a Sabre, of course! I also don't want Crosby in Carolina! A similar logic is having Crosby play for a Canadian team like Gretzky's playing in Edmonton. In time, if Crosby is "The Next One", he will most likely switch teams to a city with a larger profile. If a salary cap becomes a reality, players will try to make more money with marketing "projects" on the side.
  3. For the most part it was a great era up until the lockout. Some of these guys may have lost heart as a result. http://www.canada.com/sports/hockey/labour...ce-c31bee5b6aa2 Does anybody know if Luc Robitaille is related to Mike Robitaille (former Sabre)? How about Yannick Perreault being related to Gilbert?
  4. Indeed. Let there be no doubt that the Aussies and many others are standing tall. Nick, you and the people of the U.K. are not without friends. After 9/11 many people felt an immediate need to help. Some did help. But many were advised to stay put for their own personal safety. Stay safe for now. We are very sorry for all of those effected by this tragedy.
  5. Another thing that is different about the CFL is that they spread out their weekly games to more than two days (ex: Thursday, Friday, Saturday) as compared to the NFL (Sunday and Monday for most weeks). I'm guessing that most NFL fans prefer the current schedule though I think it will take some getting used to having MNF on ESPN and the Sunday night game on NBC. A poll on canada.com had most respondents preferring the current CFL format: Would you like to see the CFL condense its weekly schedule so that most games are played on the same day, as in the NFL? 20.83 % YES, it would make it more of an event 79.17 % NO, I like having several days of game-watching -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.canada.com/sports/football/cfl/...ttes/index.html
  6. Not good. I only got ten correct. I did get the hockey questions right. http://www.canada.com/national/features/ca...81-f0838244d305
  7. The Buckeyes will be tested early with Texas and they can't ever underestimate the team up North who always brings incredible lines and a slew of skill players. Texas beat Michigan last year in a great toe to toe battle so both are dangerous. Having Troy Smith at quarterback makes the Buckeye offense multidimensional. Smith was the key to upsetting Michigan. Hopefully, there will be no "Clarett's Syndrome" to distract the troops. Count on surprises around the country to make things interesting especially out of the SEC. The Big 10/11 always has a spoiler or two. I am looking forward to seeing Ted Ginn Jr. have a big year.
  8. My bad! I'm a week late on a lot of things.
  9. Someone just made himself a target in every NHL arena. Stay at home? We tried that already. And we actually found other things to do with our lives. Sure stay at home and as attendance stays low, franchises shift or fold, ultimately the sport doesn't grow and salaries go even lower to make up for lower profits. This guy is a public relations "genius". Hockey fans weren't angry about not seeing NHL hockey. No we were / are just jealous! "I say personally, to everybody who called us 'spoiled,' you guys are just jealous ... " http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=ap-n...ov=ap&type=lgns
  10. Cycling is such a tough but great sport and the Tour de France is a very dangerous race. Six straight wins is incredible! Seven? I still can't believe that he won six. Hopefully, you don't have to do passwords to access this: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/26/sports/o...VZCNiFenshNbI6Q If the link does not work the Sunday 6/26/05 article is titled: Bike Race as Psychological Battle: Armstrong Against the World
  11. Speaking of Lou Holtz, I saw him three days ago at an LPL Convention in San Diego. He didn't drink nor eat but just walked through the crowd and talked to people. It was different in that he would continuously have a semi-circle of people around him with everybody just listening while Lou flowed from story to story. I couldn't get close enough to hear much of what he was saying but he was going on quite a bit about the big crowds at SEC games. I wanted to ask him what he thought about the controversial call in the Miami-Ohio State National Championship. He is from Ohio and coached one year for Woody Hayes among other schools. I could just imagine Holtz blowing his top if some referee had told him (as they did in that game) that he had delayed making his call because he was replaying it in his mind! Holtz produced everywhere he coached except with the Jets (no big loss). As for Burris, the Bills were lucky to have him. The problem is as we well know, once you start winning and/or the players start producing quality stats, the best players start asking for more $$$$$$$. So the current squad better win fast as come one year from now, the Bills will be paying notes and they will be losing stars. Assuming they do some winning...
  12. I don't know if any player had a consistently hot series. It was so up and down especially with the early blowouts. Duncan's inept free throw shooting certainly stands out but his play in the final certainly had a role in breaking the Piston's back. I don't think I am alone in still being bitter towards the members of the USA basketball team and the egg laying that took place in the most recent Olympics. Part of the problem there was... Never mind, too many... Eva, hmmm... Tres jolie...
  13. Here is a link to a San Diego story involving eminent domain. While this article gives only a brief analysis, the story is unique in that the property owner's property isn't considered blighted but the surrounding property is so considered. http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20...1m12havana.html
  14. One interesting spice to throw into the pot is how every time there is discussion about raising the minimum wage business operators are up in arms claiming that they will have to lay off workers or even go out of business. I mean just how little do business operators wish to pay people and feel that that level is acceptable? Maybe the business operator should factor in the raise in the minimum wage before going into business or, get out of business altogether. This debate is even more interesting when considering that the national minimum wage has differing value depending on what part of the country one is referring to. In some parts of the country working people live in the street or field out of choice but for others it is because they can't afford to pay rent. Believe it or not this does happen in this country. I know some (most) would say then that underpaid person should find better paying work and trim their personal expenses. I agree. That is the smartest way to go. But in the meantime, the person is still homeless and still underpaid. Albeit, it is an extreme example but it underlies the fact that unions (and the threat thereof) boost wages, increase labor and product / service prices and sometimes enable people to buy more. The bottom line is that unions force a redistribution of wealth. Unions and business abuse each other. Usually some one ends up feeling slighted. Somebody profits more and somebody profits less. And who wants to profit less?
  15. I will answer me own question, si that issue includes Sofia!!! http://www.stuffmagazine.com/index.aspx Viva Columbia!!! http://www.sofiavergara.com/
  16. I will just pick one that hasn't been mentioned and that is Death Wish with Charles Bronson. Maybe it comes from the rage and hostility that comes with living in cities all my life. But I just liked seeing someone fight back and make a difference. City life can be a little frustrating at times. No need to worry about me. Honest!
  17. Is that the same issue with Sofia Vergara?
  18. I have two jobs one that is non-union and one that is union. The one that is non-union is afraid of going union so it is very sensitive to employee complaints and providing benefits. The union job has it's share of lazy types who coast through the shift. Not everybody is that way but some act like it is their right to coast. However, there are some pretty bad , ignorant managements types that cause their share of the animosity. In the union job, I am glad it is there. In the non-union job I am glad that the union isn't there but that it's shadow falls down on the manegement's collective mindset. Unions were invented for good reasons. However, they have fosterd there share of problems.
  19. No mercy, no forgiveness, nor should there be... http://buffalonews.com/editorial/20050622/1071793.asp
  20. Does anybody know of any web sites that have stock purchase simulators? I know of one for currency trading but not stocks.
  21. Gilbert Perreault # 11 for the Sabres. Incredible skater capable of end to end rushes like I have never seen since. Roger Crozier #1 first very good goalie for the Sabres. Bob McAdoo # 11 HOF great for the Braves. Clearly the best of the Braves. Randy Smith #9 Great player for the Braves. Played three sports in college at Buffalo St (track and soccer also). Jack Kemp # 15 first great Bills QB. Cookie Gilchrist # 34 once held the pro football record for most rushing yards in a game, 243 yards. LaFontaine is an excellent choice also. Read this about Cookie: http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=2982
  22. Maybe a swastika on the forehead like Manson and his family? Just kidding but what Orenthal did is inexcusable. Imperfection is one thing, murder is another. I won't separate the man and the player. He let us down. I lost all respect for him. I am happy every time someone passes one of his Bills records. Buy a Thurman jersey.
  23. Any suggestions on who should be included from the recent past and long ago...? http://www.buffalosportshallfame.com/index.html
  24. I think PW may be right on all three. 1) I am concerned about the push up the middle. And after the initial push, I am really concerned about getting some sacks. 2) Until proven otherwise JP is as green as a wave. 3) TH is getting screwed but so is the nature of the business. When you have an asset that you wish to trade you do so for as much as you can. I am guessing that TH will increase in value once the hitting begins. The Bills and their fans got screwed when Big Pat left town but once again that is the nature of the business. PW could earn more somewhere else and the Bills had to spend their money in other ways. He could have stuck it out with a team on the rise. Pat is now making more money but I am not so sure that his Vikings will be doing so well especially after having Randy Moss head to the Raid-as.
  25. I didn't know Ruff did that! I like it. I don't know if I would go as far as calling it a conspiracy. However, I would sure like to know what was said amongst those in charge as to whether the goal should have been reviewed at the very least, while the Stars were hoisting. The league and the game officials did lose their focus. Are 3 OTs an excuse or an explanation? I never liked the rule but it was the rule.
