Willis talks a little birthday smack
Spun replied to granitestatebillsbackers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bulls-eye. LT doesn't need to talk, he runs, catches and throws. He was cutting all over the field against the Raiders. LT is the man. Willis needs to learn how to park the ego and quietly channel that need to be the best into improving his skills and his output. Willis is in his second year. Respect the game and the competition. If I remember correctly, last year the Bills lost a close one to the Raiders in Oakland which was one of those games that the Bills coulda' and shoulda'. Don't give any team an unnecessary edge. Alexander is no slouch either. -
That sounds so nice...

This wouldn't be the worst but definitely intriguing. I don't want to be mean but I suspect that these two would make it interesting. A friend of mine went to one of their workshops but the brothers weren't there. http://www.cashflowgenerator.com/

I saw my first NHL game (against Pittsburgh) Monday on OLN since the Finals two Junes ago. I certainly noticed differences. The Sabres seem to be getting away from that treacherous dump and chase style in lieu of quick, short passes up the ice. I do not miss the clutching bs. I would also like to see Derek Roy back on the Sabres but the playing time with Rochester will help him when he finally does come up. The two goals Miller let in against the Pens were crappy but the Sabres played well. This was the first that I have seen of Sidney Crosby. He wasn't hard to notice. Quick, good stick handler, good on the draw, great acceleration and gets up and goes after he gets mopped. The rule changes came along at the right time for the kid from the Maritimes. As for OLN, I appreciate their covering the NHL but they have some things to work on. I was watching the game in a sports bar with the baseball playoffs and Monday Night Football so I wasn't getting the hockey audio. So info such as goals, assists, shots on goal weren't available to me because they weren't showing this data with graphics. Also, OLN has this annoying habit of running an interview while the game is going on that shows the interviewee along with a shrunken down version of the game.

Some things that Holcomb WAS doing right
Spun replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good post. Miami did adjust with a full steam ahead pass rush and the line couldn't handle it. Another thing that Holcomb did that I liked was his scrambling... He lost 32 yards in sacks which statistically disguises his escapes. But he showed an ability to move. I may have this wrong but the Bills sacked Frerotte twice, didn't these sacks come on the last two plays from scrimmage? -
Speaking Of Samuel, he had an awesome game.

Did I miss something re: Randy Cross?
Spun replied to granitestatebillsbackers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't explain Randy Cross and I can't remember the last time I walked away from watching a Bills victory feeling disgusted. The Dolphins lost. Other than the turnovers, the Bills didn't do much that impressed me. What happens when Ricky Williams returns? I am very frustrated with the offense. In particular, the offensive line and the play calling made me sick. The pass rush, especially on third downs was sad. It was a victory and one against Miami no less so that is always special. But it was one very ugly game. I can get used to ugly as long as it comes with victory. I am just unconvinced that the Bills can win another game. They were lucky yesterday. Were the Bills convincing to Cross or anybody else? Watching the Dolphins run around Gandy brought back nightmares of John Fina. -
I wish it was the Bills but it looks to me that like the Cowboys are on the rise again.

The fact remains is that he is one of the most effective coaches of our time. Even with the man boobs...

Did anybody else see O.J. at the game?
Spun replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Think what you want but in my view he is not welcome. -
It is an interesting idea but I remain skeptical. The skills required to be a top notch lineman are immense. The toughest part could be working in tandem with your fellow linemen and avoiding penalties. By no means is it easy. The skills could come in handy as do the skills of agility and balance required in ballet. Andre the Giant tried out for the Redskins (I believe) in the '70s but it didn't work out.

Maybe so but Orenthal had a very good offensive line. Reggie McKenzie and Joe D were awesome. And any back is going to look slow when they are constantly having to run up the middle to bang into defenders who are in the backfield even before the ball is handed off. It doesn't seem like Willis is missing that many holes, it just seems that the holes aren't up the middle. A little imagination is needed in the play calling. Remember when Moulds used to run the end around? Evans has some wheels, why not try the same play? But then again that requires a little blocking. Individually the offensive linemen may be very good but as a unit it isn't happening.

LAMP: I ripped one in a meeting at work

One of my favorites is planting a stealth bomb on an empty elevator and then sending the closet to the unsuspecting... It is always better to give than to receive... -
Ottawa may be the best team in the league. Picking up Heatley was clutch. 35 shots for each team may be a sign that the game is opening up! Tonight should be interesting with the rookies, Vanek and Crosby.

The refs head was bounced off the turf and he got up and continued. With no helmet, no equipment... The guy is tough.

Nothing Like Beating Miami, Then Reading
Spun replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Dolphins did most every thing they could to give this game away. 18 penalties and 5 turnovers were very helpful. The Bills did do some things better and some things different but the play of the offensive line, the pass rush and the insistence on running McGahee straight up the middle is cause for concern. I would like a little more use of the tight end and the shot gun. As for positives, Holcomb did very well considering the line and the play calling and he should remain as the starter. Also, Moorman was phenomenal (50.2 yard average) and Lindell, (yes Lindell!) was two for two with one of those being from 47 yards. I don't think having Losman on the sidelines is necessarily a negative. Hopefully, he can learn from watching Holcomb's short, quick passes and a softer touch. Losman has a rocket but sometimes he throws fastballs that simply miss the mark. He will get back in there but I hope that when it happens the offensive line plays significantly better than they have. -
There are numerous times when I have seen a ref get a call right in real time then to have have frame by frame replay show just how close the call actually was. It amazes me that they get as many calls correct as they do. However, I will say this that the roughing the passer call against the Bills in yesterday's game where the defender barely touched the qb and let up on his pursuit was one of the worst calls that I have seen all year. I am in favor of referees backing of a call if with consultation with another ref, they agree that the call should not stand. I also agree that calls do not have to be instantaneous if the ref takes a little time to replay what he saw and think about whether a foul actually took place. The refs in the pros are very good and they are substantially better than the refs in college.
