This guy was tremendous. He had a great glove... From nhl.com: http://www.nhl.com/features/crozier011106.html

Taissez-vous, s.v.p. Merci.

Texas needed and got some breaks to beat OSU. A Buckeye tight end dropped a very catchable pass in the end zone that would have provided more points in a game that was decided by three. Luck counts and always seems to be present with winning teams. I am not so sure about Penn St. I didn't see the game, why did they seem to struggle aginst FSU? As was expressed earlier by smokinandjokin, I don't think the best team won either but Young was the best qb and best player on the field. Vince Young is the prototype. The game could've and should've gone into OT if Carroll hadn't botched his timeouts. The Texas defense made it's stand when it had to.

Going to an FSU home game is now on the to-do list... I saw that Miami FSU game earlier in the year. Geometry, yes!!!

No Winn Dixie's? No Piggly Wiggly's? I wouldn't say Tallahassee has a PR problem. Especially after seeing those pix... Hum-a-na hum-a-na!!! Ho-ly bejesus... Now Buffalo having to explain that it could someday thrive again economically, now that is going uphill... Even though there are numerous examples of thriving northern climates with intense winters.

Sabres PP% 21.7 (ranked 3rd), Panthers 15.6 (ranked 23rd). I don't remember the Sabres pp or the team for that matter, doing this well in a very, very long time. Maybe they were a little tired from their last run. Hopefully, they have their legs tonight.

I may be wrong but I believe Marcus was the first significant player to hold out and Al Davis grudged on him because of it. As a result Marcus saw less playing time and less numbers. Marcus Allen was not overated. He was one of the very best of his time.

Didn't we steal this from the Habs?

The Sabres are 0-3 against the Panthers this year. Just as with Ottawa, there are serious matchup problems. The Panthers are very aggressive at forechecking and making a stand at their blueline. That is saying a lot with the new rules.

USC should have won this game despite Vince Young's incredible performance. I have to question Pete Carroll's decison making. If Vince Young gets the ball, Texas was going in for a touchdown. That is just how effective Vince Young was against a tiring USC defense. If Young got the ball with time on the clock, Texas was going to score. Even punting was better than what SC called. Although I agree with the decision to go for it on 4th down I cannot believe that Reggie Bush wasn't on the field for this play. The distance needed for a 1st down was not much. By putting Bush and White in the backfield at the same time, there would have been more doubt as to what the play would be and who was getting the ball. It worked all game. Decoy Bush and give it to White. But just putting White back there made it much easier to defend. Of course it was going to White. And as for burning the timeouts!!! Especially the last one. Especially all of them. For God's sake, Young was going to get them in for the two point conversion. Don't waste the TO!!! I know the clock was running. Three passes downfield against a prevent defense with the SC line protecting as well as they had been doing would have enabled a field goal attempt and a classic OT finish. As for Bush's botched pitch, play less basketball and concentrate only on football. That was playground slop. Right after SC went up by 12 after Bush ran for his touchdown the SC players were acting like they had separated from Texas and had the game won. Just like Marino, the guy is fiercely competitive. If there is time on the clock you cannot count Vince Young out. But so goes football. Congrats Longhorns!!!

Moulds had a very quiet 81 receptions in a very turbulent season. I think finding a way to keep Moulds is crucial in bridging successes of the past with what I hope is a better future.

USC better not take Texas lightly. Vince Young can hurt with the run and the pass and the Texas defense is legitimate.

Actually, I like most of the changes. Less wrestling holds and more skating, passing, shooting and scoring. I also like the two line pass at center. I don't mind the four on four in OT. Dump and whatever wasn't fun to watch. I am not so sure about the shootout, yet. I think as the season rolls along and wins and losses mean more, the shootouts will cement themselves as an exciting part of the game. I believe that I am also noticing more penalty shots than seasons past which I do like . I don't like the one point for tieing after regulation but eventually losing the game. I just see a loss as a loss. I think we get better hockey when the OT and the shootout means two or none.

Sarah was briefly on Saturday Night Live and I don't remember anything she did. She wasn't featured and probably didn't need to stick it out for her chance for more air time...

It was possible for teams with losing records to get into the NHL playoffs even before the system of giving a point to the loser of overtime games. In 2002-3 the Islanders got in with a 35-34-11-2 record. The current race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference between Tampa Bay and Atlanta, has both teams flirting dangerously with the .500 mark.

The shootouts have worked well in international play. I am not so sure of it's worth in the NHL as I have only seen one. I do not like teams receiving a point for a loss. This feature makes it more likely that teams with losing records get into the playoffs.

Chrebet was like Ben Coates in that he simply got it done against the Bills when they had to. It was frustrating but I always respected the guy...

A couple of years after this tragedy, this guy comes into the bar I was working at in the middle of the day and just orders a soda. Nobody else was at the bar. He was chain smoking and just drinking his soda. Then he tells me that he lost his fiancee at Lockerbie. He told me her name and I still remember it to this day. I kept feeding him sodas and never charged him (which was taking chances at this employer). In any case, the guy didn't say much about the details other than he was supposed to get married. It was very sad to see this guy sitting there suffering. His heart was destroyed. We all have grievances in life but most of us find more sound and sane ways to respond rather than taking it out on a jet filled with innocents. It is truly a sad story. -
Very well written! Are you the author? I raise a cold pint for the troops!

A few things... Yes to Speeza and Heatley. At 18, Crosby is very good and will most likely be great but Canada has a lot of very good players that do deserve the opportunity to earn a gold medal. Crosby will most likely get his first opportunity when he is 22 (amazing). Canada could field two teams. I would rather stay out of the provincial disputes as in some cases they cause more damage than good. Quebec is well represented and will be well represented. I don't doubt that the individuals picking the teams consider where the players are from when making their selections. However, they do so not to spite any player but to spread the opportunities out to very good players from all over Canada. I do believe that the selectors are looking for a certain style of player and overall compatability among the players. An early loss in the tournament can really hurt the shot at the gold. As for the Sabres game last night, they looked flat from the start. The team as a whole let Biron out to dry. The Sabres took some bad penalties, ex: too many men on the ice. The Sabres almost had as many shots on goal but many of these shots weren't from close range until they woke up in the third period. The Sabres did have some good opportunities in the third with the puck sliding through the crease on a few occasions. The Panthers played well by standing the Sabres up at the blueline and forechecking. The Panthers were also very good in the later part of the game with the power play. Consider this loss like the 5-0 loss to the Sharks a while back. Tonight is a chance to turn it back on. Hopefully, Lindy Ruff lit into them a bit. It might be a good night to give Biron a break. And enough with the comebacks, it is a good night for a fast start.

And I hope it stays that way. The Bruins can stay at the bottom. -
Early Sunday mornings rushing downstairs to get first stab at the Courier Express sports section to read the reports on the Sabres and Braves from the night before and the previews on the Bills and Sabres games to be played later in the day. It was a golden era. We couldn't afford to go to games so the newspapers, the radios and the tv (when it worked) were my eyes and ears to Buffalo sports. Many of those news articles I clipped out and put into scrapbooks that I have to this day. We only got the Courier on Sundays but we did get the Buffalo Evening News. I used to pick through the neighbors garbage on Wednesday nights (garbage nights) so I could get the weekday Courier sports sections. My family doesn't know any of that. I used to have boxes of sports sections in my bedroom. My room smelled liked newsprint. It kept my sisters out! Van Miller did the Braves games with Ralph Hubbell doing courtside reports. Van was also on Channnel 4 sports. TV back then was less on youth and good looks and more on serious, quality journalists. I believe Van did some Canisius basketball games as well? I used to listen to the Sabres on one radio and the Braves on the other. And if I fell asleep with one or both radios on I used to catch hell. Van used to do the Bills games with Dick Rifenberg and Stan Barron. I used to stay glued to the radio for Stan Barron's show on WBEN radio for his "free formed" sports reports. It was Stan or wait until the paper came the next day.

Don't change a thing. Keep the goalies. Well done once again. What a great late game rally! The Sabres will do what they can with Ottawa when they can. In the mean time, enjoy the best we have seen of the Sabres in a very long time. I liked Vanek's effort on the shootout even though it clanked off the red. Winning in Philly is not easy. The Sabres are one of the big stories in the league right now. One game at a time!
