The best fight or most interesting thing
Spun replied to BoondckCL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe that game was against Kansas City in the Orenthal era (1975?). A friend of mine used to recall that episode and try to soften the damage by adding that the guy was from Canada. Stones concert 1981, general admission seats, wasted people waited all night to get in to see Thorogood, Journey and then the Stones. The crowd was rowdy and the ladies were fine. Journey gets booed off the stage. We were standing on the field hitting on these two young ladies when everybody in our area turned their heads over to the sidelines. Somebody threw something or something was said. This guy gets up from his seat and calmly walks over to this other guy who apparently didn't think anything was coming his way. The first guy winds up with this roundhouse right hook and knocks the second guy out cold. The guy dropped like he was dead. About five minutes later, his friends were able to get him up and seated, the guy was practically comotose. -
Sad and unnecessary. To play for USC is a great opportunity. To potentially have to give back the Heisman? Ugh... The coaches pound this into the players but it still happens. These slimeball agents deserve to be whupped...

I couldn't understand the Longhorns going away from the option. They seemed unstoppable! I was very surprised that the Buckeyes won and especially by that margin and in Texas. The turnovers were crucial. The fumble at the two led to a fourteen point swing. I think the outcome is further illustration that Vince Young was indeed a man among boys. For Texas, they have an early loss that can serve for motivation to improve their game. Let Colt do what he can do but don't force him to do what he can't. Like they say, if you are going to lose do it early in the season. I get this sense that Texas may lose a few this year. I am not so sure the Buckeyes are # 1. They seemed to struggle with their rushing especially when they needed to move the ball. The Smith, Ginn and Gonzalez show was impressive but as we know all too well, when the Midwestern weather turns ugly in late October and early November you better be able to run the ball! Nice win Bucks and good luck Longhorns! Now can I have an O-H...?

75% of Americans believe Canada should...
Spun replied to yall's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
When questioned on specifics I wonder how much of an effect the US support of Israel and the lack of support for suicide bombings have in the poll. Maybe the US would support Islamic interests in some situations if there was a reluctance by Islamic interests to off people for some wharped pleasure. What would happen if the US did not support Israel at all? Think about it. We all have our grievances but most of us choose to refrain from eliminating innocents and resorting to violence. I know Quebec has a large Muslim population. I wonder where their allegiance lies, with Canada or Islam? Nevermind, I don't wonder. As for the accidents involving the Canadian troops, I do regret their loss and I do appreciate their sacrifice. However, I doubt many Canadians can imagine what burden the United States has to shoulder in trying to help resolve conflicts that are so complex and in many case unresolvable. Of course, many mistakes are made and will be made. Canada can get away with taking some less hostile positions as long as someone like the US takes the responsibility of playing hardball. It is not an easy responsibility. And of course the US has it's own special interests. Every nation does. I have been to Montreal many times and the people are pretty cool. Yes, there exists the same social problems as in the US but life seems less hostile than in many US cities. Criticism of the US seems to be a Canadian sport that I have endured for many years (Canadian relatives). I am used to it. It comes with the turf. Meazza: I am sorry to hear about the tragedy at Dawson. They locked your post from yesterday. It is great to live and visit in Montreal. It is especially great to be young and a college student in Montreal. That nut jub's full history has yet to come out but I doubt there was much that could be done to stop his agenda. -
Yes, this is live but only until August 21st. It is probably a little soon for hibernation as the night temps are in the 40's but it may be partly the reason for the shut off. They are replacing the Bear Cam with a cam in Africa.

I know this cam doesn't do justice to seeing grizzilies live but it is still amazing... http://www9.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/wil...es/wildcam.html

Some Buffalo boosters have organized an event called Buffalo Old Home Week that has been taking place this week. The effort is to get people to give Buffalo a chance for living, working and play. Personally, I couldn't and wouldn't relocate but I would consider a second home (condo). But the taxes on property and everything else makes it tough. I hope the efforts pay off for those who choose to return and for Buffalo. If the politicos were able to change the tax structure which could lead to business investments and j-o-b-s, would you consider Buffalo for a second home if not a first? http://buffalonews.com/editorial/20060811/1011516.asp http://www.buffoldhome.com/

The Sabres finally have one good year. Instead of sustaining what got them where they are, they dump a number of their scouts relying instead on video. I think the Sabres should have continued the scouting as it was. Isn't it the scouts who first noticed these no name players who just challenged for the conference finals? I appreciate the resignings of the list of players who went through or up to arbitration. I think the Sabres management recognize the importance of keeping the core of the team together. I also think the management understands that preserving this core will continue success on the ice and sales at the ticket office. However, isn't relying on video a recipe for returning to the losing ways of the past? There will be continued turnover. A small market team needs that scouting edge to remain competitive on and off the ice. http://buffalonews.com/editorial/20060810/1009001.asp

I thought the Biron part was easy.

Who will be the better QB this year...
Spun replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rivers has not had the pressure of being forced in too early and the plight of an inferior offensive line. He is also the beneficiary of the tutelage of Drew Brees. I am trying to be fair in judging Losman. He has sparkled at times but for the most part his talent is very raw. The front office has neglected the offensive line for years. Young quarterbacks need more than band aid solutions for protection. I wish this wasn't the case but I expect to see another year of breakdowns in blocking and simply being overmatched by faster, more athletic defensive linemen. So I have to go with Rivers. -
I agree. The Sabres are going to have to make a choice between Briere and Dumont. I would like to keep J.P. but the cap won't permit it with Miller yet to be signed. I am hoping the Sabres have a few more surprises in their youth movement: http://buffalonews.com/editorial/20060803/1009415.asp

Brady Quinn..Get your Asz in Camp NOW!
Spun replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't mind if the Chargers fell on their face but I don't see it happening without some major injuries. 2005 Chargers/ Bills stats: http://www.jt-sw.com/football/boxes/index..../2005-11-buf-sd 7.0 yards per gain average for Chargers. Nausea. Takeo (who did not play of course) watch this tape before the rematch in December and make sure the d is ready. -
Or Beau Fleuve. Where are the Buffaloes anyway? And Cheeka-to-woga...

Brady Quinn..Get your Asz in Camp NOW!
Spun replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was only last November that the Chargers thoroughly demolished the Bills (48-10) in every facet of the game. It was one of the most embarrassing losses in Bills history (What was worse? Maybe the pair 43-0 and 24-0 losses to the Baltimore Colts in 1971?) It was an unbearable game to watch. It was probably the game that tipped the fate of the last coaching regime. The Bills line play was especially bad as was Nate Clements toast impersonation. Phillip Rivers is ready to play. Not having Brees will not hurt the Chargers significantly. The Bills have also lost the last two years to the Raiders. The Jets should be improved especially on the offensive line with D 'Brick and Mangold. If the Bills are more skilled than anybody they need to show it on the field. -
What are you expecting from the Bills DTs in 2006?
Spun replied to Stl Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am not sold on Anderson. It is still too early. The rush was great against weak teams but feeble against others (Chargers). Speaking of the Jets thet beefed up on the offensive line especially with D'Brick and Mangold. So the Bills better find a rush. They also have Trey Teague. Yeah, I know... -
A buffalo/bison logo like the Kansas state quarter would be nice for the Sabres or the Bulls. While the logo design of the buffalo/bison is standing still, it doesn't lose it's majesty with the unnecessary, artsy, fartsy effect... http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/50sq_p...sh=yes&state=ks

I still watch periodically. Though, honestly the way ABC micromanages the programming it discourages my following as I did during season one. You know how it goes, this week it is on but the next two it is off only to return with a rerun, whatever, suits... The audience members are the ones who end up lost. In fact the money grubber's control antics are probably what helped cancel Invasion, an interesting show which used to be on right before Lost. People don't like to be picked with. Show us a good program and we will watch. String us along and we end up renting a video, surfing the net or watching ESPN.

Yeah!!! And in the stands like the Carolina Hurricane games!

I can't see the Sabres doing as well as they did without losing a few. Although I will miss McKee, the Sabres already know how to play without him. Resign Grier. He forces the action especially with his forechecking. Good luck McKee! Invest well!

Conversely, giving a team fifty yards that they would have received had there not been interference is justified in my view. I have seen games in college when the defensive team continuously interferes with a dominant receiver in hope that they can get the clock to run out before the offensive team scores. I can also do without the bad calls. For example, bad calls that give undue first downs can change an entire drive and an entire game. Officiating is much better than it used to be but incompetence still surfaces. I can do without the grounding of the ball when a qb is in the pocket. It's football, make a play...

Los Angeles quit gravy training. If you want a team or two pony up and go the expansion route. Free loading money grubbers, pony up. I don't care about L.A. market share and population size. L.A. had three teams and lost three teams. The gougers that run the league had no problem making other cities pay expansion fees so L.A. can pay too. As for New Orleans football support, if you think about how dismal the team has performed historically, it is amazing that the Saints fans support them as well as they do. The small markets need to stick together.
