End of season cuts...villarial, KH, Everett, PP,

I'll second both observations! -
Yes to Pampero Firpo, great character. He used to carry around some sort of shrunken head and pet it while calling it his inspiration. Crusher Verdue (sp) Dominic Denucci Little Abner Osborne Victor Rivera Waldo von Erich There was one guy that they used to introduce as being from Buffalo, Ron Saunders. I remember they used to print some of the results in the Buffalo Evening News like they did with the boxing results. And they used to have matches at the Peace Bridge Exhibition Center.

OT - Interesting/embarassing names to have

In high school we had a teacher named Mr. Bates. So one time at lunch, Mr Bates walks into the cafeteria and someone at our table yelled out and pointed, Master Bates! Our section of the cafeteria went off. To his credit, Master Bates laughed and just kept on walking! -
Only Way To Find Out If Losman Will Stay
Spun replied to Buffalo Baumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes. Half of the field. But which half of the field? And that half of the field isn't necessarily the middle of the field. The idea is to destabilize the defensive rush which seems to regularly collapse the pocket. Roll him out and if there is nothing there throw it out of bounds. If anything, it also means the rushers have to move. Rollouts / scrambling also can take some of the pressure of the offensive linemen. I wonder if Losman can be effective throwing from the left side of the field? Marv and Dick probably don't care what we think but in the back of their minds they know we are out here! Especially, when their contracts are close to running out. I do like A-Train! What a pick up. He hits holes and carries tacklers. It almost worked on Sunday. Just finish a few of the drives with touchdowns please! -

Exactly! Lindell has been more than adequate. I thought the snap was high on the botcher. The problem isn't Lindell it is the inability of the offense to score a touchdown. The defense, special teams and Lindell (ten points) contributed on Sunday. What did the offense do? McGee returns the ball to the Indy 12 and the closest the Bills get is to the 10 only to be backed up again to the 12 forcing another Lindell field goal. Pathetic. If the defense or special teams don't get the touchdown then it is a good bet that there will be no touchdowns. However, the strategy to run the ball to keep Manning off the field worked. I expected a 50 - 7 outcome. Usually the Bills defense is so tired from being on the field that they collapse in the fourth quarter. Once again, the opposition held the ball longer than the Bills. I would have expected Manning to be successful at bringing the ball down the field for a winning field goal shot. The irony is the Bills were the only team to lose by one to the Dolphins in their undefeated season in 1972. The Colts did show some vulnerabilities on Sunday. Now let's see if anybody else can capitalize on what the Bills revealed. -
Only Way To Find Out If Losman Will Stay
Spun replied to Buffalo Baumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I strongly agree. Roll the man out. Let him run once or twice early in the game to keep the defense guessing. This stay in the pocket stuff is too predictable and easier to defend. This is especially true if you cut off one of Losman's strong qualities which is his ability to run with the ball. I know this is a sore subject around here but when Flutie scrambled, he made an equally suspect offensive line look less mediocre because his mobility helped the Bills move the ball, get first downs and... yes, score touchdowns!!! Offensive touchdowns, remember them? We are no longer dealing with your father's Bledsoe. Roll him out! -
You've got to admit the black smoke is intense. It seems to be the only threat that the survivors have no match for. Locke survived the grip of the smoke only because smokey let go. Eventually, there may be an antidote but until then what? And I have to wonder what kind of interactions the Others have had with the smoke. Could that be why the Others are on the second island? And where is Rousseau? Walt and Michael? The Others haven't spilled much of their plans. They only acknowledge that there are plans. Waiting until February is not cool. ABC likes to overdo the micromanagement.

Indy has been close to the top on numerous occasions only to be thrown back. Sometimes, relentlessness pays off. Sometimes, teams just can't break all the way through as Bills fans so painfully know. The Steelers were pushing for a while until they knocked off Seattle. One thing about the Colts is that they don't seem to have the crying for more money mentality that besets other teams near the top. Selling a "more team and less me" philosophy can push a team to the top. Regrettably, I think that is what propelled the Pats (the Tucks) to the top despite what happened with Lawyer Milloy. A previous poster wrote about Unitas designing plays in the mud. Sometimes, I think the sophistication of the sport paralyzes quarterbacks to the point where they cannot even execute the simplest of concepts. This may be true in Losman's development.

Seeing that he is from Montreal, I wonder if he pronounces his last name Peck-ay? -

Could be that the tail group survivors all had stories that stalled. Or to stir up the drama that comes with death the writers offed secondary characters? Who else is boring? Charlie, Claire, Bernard and Rose. Ana was interesting and if she was still with the show I am sure her presence would be a great counterbalance to Ben. But the actress probably was getting stir crazy on Maui and needed to let loose so the producers axed her. Having been to Oahu for seventeen days, I can relate. As I see it, I don't know why Ben hasn't killed more of the survivors. I do wish the survivors were more pressing as to why the others have done what they done. There are certainly some basic plot voids that need to be addressed... In February! Gag! Between Lost and reality tv, Lost clearly wins. Dancing with the stars just doesn't work for me. Reality tv does not do it. Until February, I guess I could go back to my coloring books!

A friend would have helped you break down. Although, I don't know the other sides of the story, I would guess that you work with some selfish people. A more professional staff, realizing what you were up against could have helped. Is there a bad history between yourself and the other people? What is the precedent in similar situations? Would it have taken the burden off of you if the engineer asked the other individuals how the breakdown went without letting it be known that you had already told your version of the story? What kind of history did the fired "friend" have with the engineer? I guess that the "friend" had it coming. I know how in union tv stations there are very clear divisions between who does what and it is commonly enforced that one only does their job. But in non-union stations a team approach would apply. In the future, make sure that you help as you would like to be helped because most likely you will be watched. You are in a cut throat business. Weather the storm! Good luck!

For those attending the games, is Losman not seeing open receivers or are they just not open? I watch the games at a sports bar and without the sound and view of the entire field I don't know the full story. I know the offensive line and Losman have struggled but there are also times when Losman has time but it seems like either nobody is open or he just doesn't see the open receivers. I think the coaches have trained Losman to stay in the pocket to the point where he avoids scrambling when he can gain a few yards. Losman also seems to avoid the rollout as if he now has "quicksand feet" like Bledsoe. Losman's mobility is one of his strengths so why not use it?

Someone should remind her of what university Brady attended.

2007-2008 Buffalo Bills Running Back

A more effective offensive line would do wonders for Willis, Losman and the win column. -
A win against the "tucks" is desperately needed. I don't care how it happens. A botched call, a lake effect storm, a hole in the net. I don't care. Get it done Bills. Please. God, a little help.

Or toques, leggings and bubble wrap! I have been waiting for a Stanley Cup for the Sabres since the 70-71 season, not an endorsement from Mr Blackwell... 5 and 0 looks good... As in scary!!!

Losman may be confident in press conferences but he seems to lack confidence in his offensive line, especially in the second half. The errant passes in the last drive were simply poor. Throwing a wobbly interception into double coverage is one thing but not being able to hit dumpoffs two yards away is another. Losman was getting jittery like he thought he was going to get wacked. Don't get me wrong, Losman did a lot of things right and many of his mistakes are correctable but he had his share of boneheaded plays that helped cost the Bills the game. The Jets are improved, especially on their lines (Ferguson, Mangold) and Pennington just stung us. If one just looks at the game stats and not the score it looks like a victory for the Bills. Finishing off drives seems to be a perennial problem for the Bills. In two of three games the Bills have scored touchdowns in the very first minute only to lose the game. Ouch! I do agree that Losman's attitude is great for a leader and team on the rise...

Spinning is a great workout! It is done with a group and depending on where you go the other people in the class change from meeting to meeting. You go at your own pace and you sweat off the fat and water and build endurance and strength. Try it and keep with it and you will be happy with the results. Cycling on your own would help you build up to a good pace for the spinning class! Alternatively, jogging can be more vigorous than the treadmill and more interesting. Jogging can be rough on the aging body so start slow and keep your mileage at a comfortable level. You are getting some great advice. Weight lifting, punching bags, yoga, jumping rope are all great fitness options. Make sure you include the stretching. I have been keeping a log for five years after taking a Diet and Exercise class at a local community college. The key is being honest about what you record. If you didn't workout one day, week, month you still record what you did for that day etc. Make one goal for each week. One week it may be running once or twice or jumping rope or doing the time tested pushups and situps. One hour on the stairmaster is great exercise! If you cross train or mix up your routine it helps keep things interesting. If you are near a college, check into joining their gym. Some schools have recreation centers that are cheap and some are also available for the community at large for a higher price. I am not currently enrolled at San Diego State but I pay $19 per month for their recreation center which opens at 8:00 am on Sunday and doesn't close again until 10:00 pm on Fridays with limited hours on Saturday. It has free weights, weight machines, punching bags group classes (spinning, yoga, among others) and personal training which is another great option to keep one involved. http://arc.sdsu.edu/ Good luck!!!

UB gets serious props regarding minority hiring
Spun replied to duey's topic in Off the Wall Archives
In the late 70's and early 80's UB had a black hockey coach, Ed Wright who still teaches at the school. Ed Wright also was the instructor for one of the coolest classes I have ever taken, Speedball and Floor Hockey. Half the semester was Speedball and the other half Floor Hockey and both were played in the gym at Clark Hall on Main Street. Speedball is a sport that combined parts of basketball, football and soccer. You could dribble like basketball or soccer and throw the ball like football. There was a goalie to prevent goals that were worth 1 point, as in soccer. But you could also score what was essentially a touchdown but was only worth 2 points. It was a great sport for conditioning. The Floor Hockey part was played with rings of tape for pucks while we only used the shaft of a hockey stick. We used typical street hockey nets. With the shafts and donut "pucks" it was much easier to control the "puck"and enabled us to get off some fast shots. UB now offers intramural dodgeball: http://www.buffalo.edu/reporter/vol37/vol3.../Dodgeball.html I would really like UB to get Men's Division I Ice Hockey back. Women's Division I Ice Hockey would also be cool. -

Barry Sanders was great. I wish at some point in my life that I could change direction like that. And at Oklahoma State, okay Thurman take a breather. Sanders your in. It is too bad Sanders left so early. I have seen some highlights of Gale Sayers that are absolutely amazing. His kickoff returns were a thing of beauty.
