It seems like they drafted a giant (6"7) and a dwarf (5"9) in the first. The "new NHL" supposedly allows for smaller players. I hope that continues because the Sabres seem to have a lot of them. A Charo size defenseman should be interesting.

Make sure you remind the Browns fan who welcomed members of the Dawg Pound to a Bills home game in the aftermath of the uprooting of the Browns to Baltimore. It was Ralph Wilson. And in a strange feature of this site, every time I try typing in the last name of the "Browns / Ravens" owner, "I" shows up instead. What gives?

My favorite Charlie Jones memory was during a game in the early 90's involving the Raiders and some other team with Todd Christensen also reporting. Something didn't go the Raiders way and Christensen was just blatantly pleading for a call in the Raiders favor. Jones called him on it and Christensen got rude and snotty towards Jones. Jones calmly and cooly retorted (not word for word) that we are at least supposed to try to be unbiased. Christensen wasn't on NBC for for much longer. Jones is fondly remembered in San Diego as he called many Charger games and also resided in La Jolla. Whatever Jones bias was, if he had one, I couldn't tell. Charlie Jones had a great voice and a great passion for football! God speed Charlie Jones!

All too many of us had to leave Buffalo over the years as the global economy shifted and we had to desperately figure out our next move. But for many of us, Buffalo has remained inside of us wherever we had to drag on. Too many people have poked fun at us, our Bills and Sabres (and Braves) and our Buffalo. We have endured the putdowns over the years knowing that they don't compare to the very real pain we have felt economically. Tim Russert was a great journalist, a great person and one of our greatest boosters. Tim Russert never forgot his family and friends, us Buffalonians, our teams and our city. We always appreciated having somebody in our corner. Regardless of where in the region we lived or went to school we were and are very proud of Tim Russert. My deepest sympathies go out to Tim's family, friends, co-workers and fans. Thanks for having our backs Tim. Thanks for making us proud! Rest well. Let's Go Buffalo! PS: I will always remember how Tim proudly displayed his Sabres jersey on Meet The Press with the name Russert on the back.

Legendary sportscaster Jim McKay passes away
Spun replied to Cornerville's topic in Off the Wall Archives
For a sports nut kid stuck in the house with bad weather outside, Jim McKay and Wide World of Sports was the perfect medicine in between Bills, Sabres and Braves games. I will never forget nor forgive what happened in Munich. Today marathon TV coverage is routine. Back in the day, two events requiring marathon TV were the tragedy of the Munich Olympics and later Watergate. The constant coverage in itself spelled global signifiance. Rest well Jim Mckay in the Wide World of Heaven! -
No love for the Cletics. Lakers, shut up the chowds please!

The Western Conference seems to have a pattern going with Anaheim and Detroit having similar solid, physical teams. I thought the Ducks were going to repeat. Detroit's defense was like Anaheim's in that they would form this crown around the blueline that made it very hard for the Pens (and most everyone else) to penetrate to the net. Ottawa sounds like they are done. The Sabres woulkd be smart to follow the Western Conference model. Build from the goalie on out, have defensemen who can play offense (Brian Campbell) and defensive forwards. The Sabres aren't close. Their roster has practically turned over from the post lockout team. Max may be gone next. Sabres have two picks in the first round don't they?

I saw Journey play along with the Stones and George Thorogood at then named Rich Stadium. From what I remember (not much), Journey finished early as the Stones fans were "agitating".

Other than Vanek, the Sabres don't seem to want to pay big salaries. That explains the recent signings of draftees. I would like for the Sabres to sign Miller and help him with an improved defense. Hossa played very well in the playoffs especially against the Red Wings. He will command big money. The Pens front office will be busy over the next few years trying to resign all that talent.

Yes, it was cool to see the Pens fans stick it out. The Pens put up a very good fight. Actually, it is cool to see small markets on the rise. I can do without the Rangers and the Bruins. The Blackhawks have been down for a while so their rise is overdue. Chicago has a good assortment of young players. I believe having small markets involved in the top of the standings is even better for the sport. A seven game final would have helped but this was a good final. While not popular in some circles having the Sun Belt teams win Cups grows the sport. When big market teams win it feels like an oligopoly is taking place. There were the greedy media types who wanted so bad for Crosby to go to a big market team like NY or LA. I wish Crosby was drafted by the Sabres but having him go to a small market team was the next best thing. Crosby, Malkin, Staal and friends helped save the Pens franchise. It would have been a shame to see Pittburgh lose their team with such a great history (Lemieux, Jagr, two Stanley Cups). The big market cities win enough.

The Western Conference has been more physical over the last few years so I don't expect Pitt to have an easy time. Both teams have depth. Detroit is more experienced but Pitt has incredible skill players. The first game and the series depends on who gets out of the blocks first. A powerplay goal and then a defensive shell can seal both. I am rooting for the Pens but I think the Wings will win in seven. The Pens better win the Cup fast as the rest of the league is salivating at the talent that they won't be able to resign. Detroit is an impressive of continuity in the salary cap era. The Sabres better have their scouting together especially with the upcoming draft.

Bills cheated also...No better than the Patriots...

Thank You Giants! -
ESPN is currently addressing the story of the most recently released tapes. They were just showing a 2001 tape of Bills and Pats that went on for about five minutes. I am at the gym without sound but the longevity of the tape said enough. Cheaters. Take away all the Super Bowl Championships. All of them.

If Xavier's Omon's moves transfer to NFL ...
Spun replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was funny to watch! You know he is in that mass of bodies somewhere when wham, he comes squirting through! Give the guy a chance. Sometimes a change of pace weapon can de-tablize the defense. I would like to see the Bills open some holes the size of a snowplow. The blocking is more of a concern than a forty time especially when in need of first downs and when within the Red Zone. I try to put some things out of memory but one thing that won't go away is the Bills lack of productivity in getting first downs. Give X a chance! -
I like it the way it is. There is a variety of options on where and what to post. I want info and quick access. I don't need the eye candy. Well... some eye candy... Hmmm, never mind. I do like that we can talk Bills, Sabres, most any sport and many other topics. The site is well organized. I know how to find what I need so I don't believe radical changes are needed. It is a very cool site. TBD and TSW work fine for me.

Actually Columbus, Ohio was making it a regular thing for a while.

We do have the same problems in the US. Typically, it involves juvenile delinquents and amateur drinkers. Montreal does have a lot of punks that run too fre with little or no help from the cops. The facebook generation has included some idiots who organize and celebrate their deeds over the web. Montreal is prosperous and has won quite a lot of Cups so it seems inexplicable but it does happen elsewhere.

The city of Montreal is melting down: Pictures: http://galeriedephotos.cyberpresse.ca/inde...a=4640&m=cp Comments: http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/stor...12-fbe969f2fdb8 Amateur drinkers wanting attention. What happened to just winning? And booing the US anthem. Again. Nice...
