The Sheraton on the Canadian side is very close to the Falls. Here is a link to the Falls Cam from the Sheraton: https://www.niagarafallslive.com/Niagara_Falls_Webcam.htm The cam may not be working right now but from this link you can see how close the hotel is to the Falls. The Canadian side is better for the drive between Buffalo and the Falls, the view of the Falls and activities for adults with and without (Ballet) the family.

Sorry about the hyper link. Roughly speaking the article goes on about Pominville's extensive training and his optimism for the future of the Sabres based on the resigning of some of the teams best players... Good luck reading the French! http://www.cyberpresse.ca/article/20080905...tm_medium=email

I have yet to pay a mordida in the U.S. I usually visit Mexico in the Fall, during the day of course. The lines for returning (by foot) back to the U.S. can take as long as 1 1/2 hours. The negatives overwhelm the positives. I wish I could say better but I can't. I won't be going to Mexico for a long time. I do know a lot of very cool people from Mexico, I wish things were better for them. In some ways the situation in Mexico is like inner city Buffalo. There are hard working traditions in both places and very passionate people but also struggling economies and growing crime. I want to retire in the United States. San Diego is a good place to retire but somewhat expensive. I understand one wanting to consider other places. It is a short life and a big world. Absorb what you can while you are still ticking!

The Missouri / Illinois game and the California / Michigan State game were great to watch. Plenty of miscues but competitive. Williams kept the Illini in the game. When they scheduled this game, I don't think either team was very good but surprise here they are in Week 1!

Two areas where the Wolverines alway deliver is with their lines. They always seem to recruit monsters regardless of what else may be missing from the rest of the roster. Introducing the spread offense should throw an interesting wrinkle into Big Ten - Eleven play. Utah is also unranked. The Utes usually seem to do well in conference. I think Michigan will be ready for the Utes after having learned from last season's App. St game. This matchup could be a good one. However, it is the opener for both teams so anything could happen. Speaking of App. St. they play LSU on Aug 30th: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...p&type=lgns

Nebraska, Notre Dame and Michigan are all unranked. That shouldn't last long.

Rogers totally screwed the pooch with ticket prices

'Red_Tory', If you think this is nitpicking just read some of the posts about the Bills! Nitpick is some of what people do on this board. It is free speech for the most part so let it fly like you did in your post! Welcome to the big leagues and develop a hard skin! Don't take it personally! Having parents from both sides of the US / Canada border (or Canada / US!), I can vouch for the many critiques lobbed at both nations from both sides of the border! Also, take into account that many fans on this board are from outside the Bflo area (moi - California). Bflo has suffered a lot especially economically. We fear a lot of the bad because that is what has happened to the region in the past and not just sports (Buffalo Braves). As for WNY not appreciating Canadians, it is well known that hordes of Canadians have come into WNY to spend their loonies and twonies as a result of the stronger dollar. It is appreciated. And Canadian support for Bflo hockey and football has a long history. In fact, the old AHL Buffalo Bisons used to play in Fort Erie. The City of Buffalo has a lot of rebuilding to do. This comeback plan does not include losing the Bills. We have already lost enough jobs. -
Mary Carillo - worst commentator of all time
Spun replied to stevestojan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Triumph in Quebec was the all time best! "Are you separatist?" Carillo is simply stiff, trying to do something that does not come naturally for her. Or most people. Her spots are simply bad. When she comes on I know it is a good time to run errands. Mary's on, ohhhhh, maybe I'll get something to drink, check my calls, walk around the block, whatever... It is China one of the most historic places in the world! Mary not being able to report the historic thrills in China is like a cook not being able to scramble an egg. Kinda, sorta. -
To be honest about it, teams schedule cupcakes in large part to generate revenues from an additional home game. Also, sometimes these schedules are made long in advance which doesn't prevent a big name team having a down year or two ex: Washington during last season.

There is some reason for optimism. The Sabres are determined to develop from within and occasionally pick up players through trade or F.A. One guy they have to keep is Ruff. Just get the coach some talent. The Campbell loss was a bad one for the current roster but believe it or not, after trading Bernier the Sabres ultimately got what I believe was first, second and third round draft picks.

Yes it is hockeys future.com. Also, nhl.com has good features. It is interesting to follow some of the teams and players at the junior and collegiate levels. Information is available to us all. I am still not sold that the video system of scouting employed by the Sabres is preferable to scouts getting out across the plains and the waterways. Defense is what tanked against the Canes (along with exhaustion) and certainly against the Sens. The Sabres have a very young team. If perhaps this team turns out to be very good, I hope the front office has the vision to recognize and resign the most talented players before they become unaffordable.. As much as I don't like it, I think I may have to be a little more patient with the team as opposed to the recent past. The desired changes may take a while especially at defense.
-
My guess is that the Sabres will soon be a very different team. The defense sounds like it is finally on its way.

Don't do that to Wells! Wells would be even better if Brandon Saine was used more often. Trindon Holliday of LSU has some jets. If they could figure out to use him beyond returns, he could be a game breaker.

I haven't been through a quake in SD for a while now. Fairly routine. I felt the bed shift, looked up and saw the barbell on the weight bench shifting back and forth. Then I looked towards the dining room to get the true gauge and sure enough the chandelier was wavering. When these things happen you don't have time to run outside. They are usually over fairly quick. CA. is still un okay place to live. Pricey but nice. I'm glad ecerybody is safe

I did know this guy from baseball in North Buffalo's Shoshone Park and later the Sabres hockey school. His family used to give me rides out to Leisure Rinks in OP. He moved to the D.C. area while in high school or a little later than that. I seem to remember Luke playing defense. I am glad to hear of Luke's success. Luke's story is another Buffalo success story. Rest with peace Luke.

Yes, I am dosing you on sarcasm. I do get your point. As some have already pointed out there are existing laws in the books. My take is that if the officers were going to enforce the cell phone usage with the old law they would have to also go after taco eaters, makeup queens, shavers, drinkers, radio changers, etc. I see the aforementioned as troublesome at times but few of these activities are consistently as ongoing as a phone call. If with existing laws there was a predominance of tickets for cell phone usage I could see a reaction by some saying that that driver with the mocha and that one with the burger are getting away with inattentive driving but cell phone users are not. Lawyers might have some fun with the inconsistency. So instead there is also a specific law for the cell phone users. Back to the looking inside of other cars, there were plenty of problems on the roads before cell phones. The tailgating, non-signaling, the aggression and anger were all there before but the phones have added to the chaos. Will a cell phone law change all of that? No but hopefully it helps. Some drivers are just bad. The other day I was drinking a cup of coffee on an outside restaurant patio. This lady comes driving down the street with her cell phone in her left hand while held to her ear while also trying to make a right turn. In my view, she was going too fast. She might think otherwise. She couldn't easily use her signal so she didn't. She tried a right hand turn with just her right hand on the wheel and ended up turning down the middle of two lanes. A few minutes later, another guy comes up the same street driving about fifteen in a twenty-five zone. A line of about five cars coming from the opposite direction were waiting for this guy to get through the intersection so they could make their left turns. The guy was visibly dialing or texting while not concentrating on his speed nor the situation ahead. The people had to wait for the guy to get through and an additional signal change. That is what enrages people. Another infraction that is inconsistently applied is when you see people heading to a party with their back seats filled with balloons. Cops seem to go after people for this one but some others seem to get a free ride. It isn't that much of a big deal until one of us gets the ticket or gets hurt.

Winter Classic 2 @ Wrigley AKA the Annual Ty Conklin outdoor game
Spun replied to taterhill's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Being in the non-hockey centric locale of San Diego it was amazing to me how so many casual to non-hockey fans commented to me about last years game. As people were home on New Year's Day and presumably flipping between bowl games they stumbled upon an outdoor hockey game. The game was competitive and the subplots were interesting. Putting the game on another weekend should be different. Wrigley or Soldiers Field doesn't matter a whole lot to me but it may to Chicago fans. Pitting the young, up and coming Black Hawks against the Stanley Cup Champion Red Wings could be interesting. Hockey has a lot of room to grow in regards to fan base. The abundance of difficult to pronounce and remember names can obstruct some but by giving the game a chance a lot of casual fans could turn on to the sport. The outdoor concept is still new and can be used as an effective marketing tool. It is kind of like inter-league play in baseball in which interest peaked early and waned over time. We'll see! -
No need to study the cars directly in front of me. No need to look to the side to see if the car that is veering my way is using a mechanical or even a hand turn signal which can happen to be inside the car. Did you study up on how to drive without any hands? I didn't study them either because I used uncommon sense. I heard the earth is flat but then again I didn't do my study. Beyond our sarcasm the law is helping in my neighborhood!
-
Thank you California! Cells phone don't in any way help one's driving. Yes, some phone drivers are better than others but most that I have encountered are careless, inconsiderate and dangerous. This is especially true in regards to signaling and shifting. The texting law will come next. Then the fines will get steeper. And yes again, the CHP has been writing tickets. It is long overdue. The alternative to the cell phone law is increased road rage. If you have that much to say, stay at home or pull over but do not get near me. Thank you California!

In May, I paid $140 for gas and June, I paid $40. I have only been using my car for to and from work and errands in which I am carrying heavy groceries from outside the neighborhood. Beyond that, I use my bike or walk. Short jaunts in the car to shop, visit, dine etc., are now mostly done without the car. I decided that I will only drive and spend so much. And as it turns out I am driving and spending much less than before the recent gouge got out of control. Over the last five weeks I have driven 76, 134, 63, 74 and 101 miles. I used to drive 250 - 300 miles per week. The food prices that have risen because of the oil and gas price hikes have caused me to change what I buy. The 99 cent store has been a great option for buying that which I used to but at a typical grocery store. Times have been tougher for most. If you consider the Depression and the World Wars, some have had it much worse than many of us. And if you think about those who we are enriching each time we waste oil and gas it may serve as incentive to use less. The oil producers, the oil companies, the speculators... Not exactly friends of mine... Do whatever you can to fight back.

Next time you want to root for the Giants
Spun replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Another way to look at things in the form of an analogy is to see the Joyants as the Soviets and the Pats as the Germans. We don't like either but beating the Germans was of greater necessity. Once the Germans were defeated we went back to disliking the Soviets and the Cold War flourished. Now that the Pats were defeated by the Joyants we can go back to hating both. Please do not view this as my saying the Pats are Nazi's etc. This is only a reach of an analogy. -

I repeat that I have never been so happy to see another team lose in a game without the Bills playing as when the Joyants beat the Cheaters. However, the Joyants are still the enemy and always will be. There is one way to shut up or at least lessen the Norwood redundancy: The Bills win the Super Bowl.
