  1. Here's a little known one, invented on the spot in the '90's by an ex-college lineman sitting next to us at a game: "Big Stupid-A$$" Louchey.
  2. I wouldn't read too much into it. At this stage in the season, they're just taking a flyer on him because every team is banged up now. There's no risk to the Patriots for signing him and if he plays well, so much the better. If not, they're not out any significant money. We've all seen with the Bills how long it takes an O-Line to gel, so it's going to be hard for Ross to make any real impact.
  3. I can't recall exaclty who the author was, but ESPN did a rather large feature article on Bill Polian's situation with Ralph and what led to the firing. The gist of the article was that Polian did not see eye-to-eye with Jeff Littman, who was Ralph's chief financial guy for all of Ralph's businesses, including the Bills. The article suggested that Polian and Littman detested each other and that the relationship was untenable, forcing Ralph to choose between the two. I realize this might paint Ralph in a false light as the poor guy in the middle, but the article suggested that Polian gave Ralph a "it's him or me" sort of ultimatum and that Ralph went with Littman. I don't know how much of the above is true, but it is generally known that Polian can be very tempramental and blunt. Maybe that was too much for Ralph, or maybe Polian was telling Ralph things he needed to hear but didn't want to acknowledge. You could argue the case all day about Ralph being cheap. What can't be argued is his loyalty. He's had plenty of opportunities to move his team but hasn't, because he's an old school owner who believes that the league is better by spreading its presence everywhere, as opposed to just the most profitable markets. I believe he's kept the team in Buffalo for what he feels is the good of the league. And when he dies, the future of the team in Buffalo will be in very serious jeopardy.
  4. This late in the season, he's a practice body.
  5. Ummmmm.......anybody remember Chad Pennington? I think they're being smart by not playing JP. Pennington convinced his coaches that he was a real "warrior" and played when he shouldn't have. Now there's doubts that he will ever play again. And by the way, the initial reports on Pennington's shoulder were that it was just a little "sore". Saturday's game is almost meaningless, against a defense with a very good pass rush. Still want to second guess the decision to sit JP?
  6. They're running out of healthy bodies. Teams that are headed to the playoffs or are at least in a postion to make the playoffs usually add a few people at about this time of year.
  7. I think we all have a tendency to over analyze. This is basically a pretty simple equation: good OL=consistent offense. bad OL=the current Bills offense. The only way this team gets immediately better is to adress the OL problem. Everything else follows from there. The current OL just isn't an NFL-caliber line. Whomever's making the draft and free agent decisions next year can get all the skill QB's, WR's and RB's they want, but it's not going to make a difference until they address the foundation: The OL and DL. We can win with good-but-not-great skill players, but we will not win without quality on the OL and DL.
  8. Let's hope there's plenty of prospects for OL and DL in the draft, because that's the only way this team gets better. If there's one thing I've seen over this past No Playoffs Era, it's the poor play (OL) or inconsisten play (DL) of the lines. I think if they can get those two areas shored up, this team is not that far away from at least competing. Anyone know how much depth there is at OL and DL positions in the draft?
  9. I remember sitting at the stadium during the Hank Bullough Era as the team scurried into the locker room at halftime, down 17-0. My friend turned to me and said: "Hank's got some hot cocoa waiting for them in the locker room" It's sad but it appears this team has the same mindset.
  10. How about this: 1. In a stunning move, Ralph Wilson brings back Lou Saban as coach. 2. Fred Smerlas is hired as DC. 3. Saban trades Willis MaGahee to the Dolphins for their first round pick, and channels the spirit of Cookie Gilchrist to enter the body of Shaud Williams. 4. Ralph buys the Toronto Argonauts and names Tom Donahoe as GM. 5. Jimmy Johnson is our GM. 6. The Bills win the Super Bowl.
  11. Having been a Bills fan for a long time now, I'm taking the long term view of this season. So the question now becomes: Does winning more games this season do any good? I know that sounds like a dumb question, but this season is obviously over, so the time is now to see what the younger players on the team are capable of. I also think that draft position is going to be important next year. Then there's the other issue: If we think Donahoe should be gone, do we really want the team to win the rest of their games and give Wilson the idea that TD should get one more year? These are sad questions to ask, but the reality is that this season is over and it's time to look at next year. -sad in Youngstown
  12. Based on last night's game, every sports writer in the country is preparing to annoit the Colts as the next team to go undefeated. I was pretty young when the Dolphns went 17-0, so I don't remember whether or not the starters played at the end of the season. I realize it was a different era, but does anyone remember their last few games and whether or not the subs got a lot of playng time? I'm trying to settle a bet a work. My contention is that the starters on that team got progressively less playing time at the end of the season but since coverage of the NFL wasn't quite so obessive as it is now, noboy noticed. Thanks in advance for the help!
  13. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! As an ex-Buffalonian here in Youngstown, Ohio, I'm looking for some good old irresponsible speculation on whether or not TD will be gone at the end of the year, and under what conditions this could happen. Since moving away in 1989 I get a lot less day-to-day coverage about our team, so I'm wondering if the rumblings have started. Being an hour away from Pittsburgh, there are a lot of Steelers fans here who said Ralph made a mistake when TD was hired and that he would end up regretting it. All throughout the Donahoe era in Pittsburgh there was constant talk of friction between Cowher and TD. Of course, we know what eventually happened. I think a lot of the Steelers' past mistakes in drafting were conveniently lumped on TD after he left, but a lot of fans here hated him. Following his drafts in Buffalo, he seems to be repeating some of his earlier mistakes, but then again he's made some good choices. So if the Bills tank the rest of the year, is he gone? If they put a winning streak together, does he still go?
  14. As a Bills fan here in Youngstown, I've seen some pretty idiotic behavior from both Pittsburgh and Cleveland fans. I was unfortunate enough to be sitting in the original "Dawg Pound" at Cleveland Municipal stadium for the Bills' 41-0 rout of the Browns in 1990 and consider myself lucky to have come out uninjured. I also saw some pretty nasty behavior at Three Rivers Stadium, between fans who were rooting for the same team. Then again, I think I've been to over 40 games at the Ralph and seen some real morons at their finest there. I think it comes down to three things: alcohol, emotion and stupidity. Put those three together and you're guaranteed for some real "fun" no matter where you go. We're pretty fortunate here in the U.S. that our fans are fairly well behaved when you consider what happens at the average European soccer game.
  15. I'm a Bills fan from Youngstown, OH......the birthplace of this idiot. This kid has been an idiot from day one. What's sad about it is that he's been coddled and told he's the second coming of Jim Brown since he was about 13 years old. You'd be amazed what some of the local high schools did to recruit him. Everybody in Youngstown is embarassed at the publicity (if you can call it that) this moron is generating. The city's got a bad enough reputation as it is. I hope he winds up in semi pro ball somewhere far away from Ohio
