Anything worse than the playoffs next year and he's gone. Nothing Wilson said was exactly a ringing endorsement. Kind of like how Wade Phillips is still the coach of the Cowboys

Love this post! That damn cop slapper!

What I find really depressing
gobillsinytown replied to Colorado Mike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Much younger? Doubt it. I've got 41 years following this team. Before I left Buffalo, I was a season ticket holder for ten years, which included some pretty bad teams. I'll reiterate: It's supposed to be a game. As in....not real life. It's entertainment. If you don't enjoy something that's supposed to entertain, why keep following it? Here's reality: Ralph is the private owner of the team. Private ownership in the U.S. means just that: Private, with no real obligation to any outside party. That includes the city, the fans, or the NFL. Ralph can do whatever he wants with it. If he doesn't want to replace the coach, he doesn't have to. If the attendance at the games goes down and that doesn't bother him, there's nothing anyone can do about it. If the team leaves the area after he's dead, there's nothing anyone can do about it. So why complain? If complaining makes you feel better, then good for you. But no matter how much you complain, it's not going to change what happens to the team one bit. -
What I find really depressing

Yeah, but when I was sixteen, I wasn't being deluged with internet whining. Being a fan is supposed to be fun. -
I found a lyrics song generator site and typed in "Jauron". Get out you guitars and start strummin' some chords! 1. "And the whole world has to answer right now just to tell you once again who's Jauron." 2. "And here is a red Jauron, I think of you, and let it go." 3. "A little less Jauron, a little more action please." 4. My Jauron brings all the boys to the yard and they're like it's better than yours. http://www.thesurrealist.co.uk/song.php?word=Jauron

To All Who Say They're Done

I've stuck with the team for the last 32 years because it's entertainment, not an all consuming obsession. I had season tickets for 10 years before I left the Buffalo area. When I was at the games, wins or losses, I was as excited as anyone in the stadium. But once the game is over, it's time to get back to life. Rooting for a team is supposed to be fun, not an excuse for departing from reality. And the reality is that NFL ownership is private. Ralph owns the team. He can do whatever he wants with it. He's also 90 years old. He knows that he will be dying sooner rather than later. The prospect of one's mortality changes perspective. So yes, I'll be watching the team. But one thing I won't be doing is throwing temper tantrums if the team loses or keeps a coach that I don't like. It's a game. Enjoy it like a game or follow something else. I used to visit this board so I could get information about the team, like the draft, free agency and offensive and defensive schemes. Unfortunately, it's degenerated into a whine fest. I see a lot of posts on this board about how Ralph is somehow scheming to sell the team by turning it into a losing franchise. Aside from the fact that this idea makes absoultely no sense, the fairweather fans of this team better be hoping that losing the team doesn't become reality, because it will be a huge economic blow to the Western New York area, with real consequences. Besides, if the team leaves, where will these crybaby fans go to complain? There won't be a "Two Bills Drive" to log onto then. -
Ralph says "not enough talent"...

Thank you for the perspective. There are teams in worse shape than Buffalo, although with all the whining on this board you'd think it was 1985. I think Jauron gets one more year. He's got to go 9-7 or better to keep his job. And that's the ultimate yardstick for any NFL coach to keep his job. Win and everything's great. Lose.................. -
No Changes Coming Can Only Mean ONE Thing
gobillsinytown replied to BrooklynBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't count on it. I don't think you'll see any franchise movement in the next few years. The economy is going to keep any city from spending the amount of money necessary to bring in an NFL franchise. Even in Toronto. An NFL franchise is good for any city in the long run, but the start up costs are enormous. The budget deficits for all of the most-mentioned candidate cities are growing every month. In November, the NFL laid off over 1,000 people, and it's the dominant sport in this country. I think things are going to stay the way they are for a while. -
I've been a fan of this team since I was five. I'm 46 now. I'm glad there was no such thing as the internet in 1984 and 1985, when the team had back-to-back 2-14 seasons. And the crybabies on this site are complaining about 7-9? If the whiny pis*sants on this stie are going to stop following the team, then I really wish they'd do it soon.

Bye bye.

Trent's comments certainly don't suggest confidence in the O-Line, or in the recievers to make the proper route adjustments in a red zone situation. The WR's have to be very quick in reading the defense. Looking at the Patriots, you can see that O-Line play is solid enough so that Cassell isn't as afraid to take a sack, and that the Pat's receivers, especially Welker, are much quicker at making the correct reads.

a team that's even worse to root for

Makes it all that much sweeter to see them collapse. It may be pathetic, but I can't help it! Having Brett Favre shoved down my throat all year has made me bitter. -
Our Biggest problem On Offense
gobillsinytown replied to maverick544's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the biggest problem on the field is the O-Line. If you look at the successful Bills' O-Lines of the past, or any NFL line for that matter, O-line cohesiveness begins and ends with the center. The last great Bills O-line had Kent Hull. The center often makes the protection calls, has to be flawless on the snap, often deals with two pass rushers, and is usually lined up against someone like Pat Williams on running plays. So the center has to be big, strong, and fast. I think it's the toughest position to play on the O-Line, even over left tackle. Duke tries hard, but seems to implode under pressure. Yesterday's shoving match cost the team dearly, although I can understand that having to deal with all the Pats' dirty tricks would get really irritating. As far as coaching, it could be the HC or the OC, depending on who's responsible for the calls. But the HC is ultimately responsible, and going from 5-1 to 7-9 is unacceptable. So the problem isn't replacing Jauron, but rather who do you replace him with? How many of the staff gets let go? How do you analyze the performance of the coaching staff when they ultimately have to follow the orders of the HC? -
It's a bitter sort of gloating, but I love watching Favre poop out every year. What would make this even better would be for the Jests to make the wild card, and then have Favre throw 3 or 4 picks to lose the game. And I sure as heck and sick of seeing his jeans commercial every five minutes on TV.

Langston Walker says it...
gobillsinytown replied to BBfan4lifeJH81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to confess that I feel a little bad for the kid. I thought he was questionable coming out of college, because he spent so much time behind a horrible offensive line. He was getting plastered to the turf constantly, and he was still able to play well. So to a certain extent I could see Donahoe's reasoning: "Put him behind a decent O-Line, and he'll be great". Unfortunately, I think the habits he picked up from having to run for his life in college carried over to the pros. That being said, he's a good kid who tried very, very hard. But he's done as a starter no matter what. He still could have a career as a back up. -
Underrated player this game
gobillsinytown replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Absolutely. A consistent pass rush is critical in the tampa/cover 2. I'm not sure whether the DB's playing man resulted in more plays, or if they were just able to put themselves in a better position through zone discipline. But either way, they most definitely need to upgrade the pass rush. Whether it's through the draft or draft/free agency in combination, D-lineman or lineman/linebacker combination, that's got to be the number one priority in the off season. -
Bills blew the 1st round of the draft....
gobillsinytown replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only way to prove that McKelvin was a bust is to go back and do the research. It would be tough to do though. You would have to look at all the available players at #11 in the first round, list them all, and then compare their performances with McKelvin's performance to date. I thought he was good pick. The light's come on for him recently in the secondary, and I don't think anyone can debate that he's an asset on special teams. The problem with picking DB's in the first round is that they generally take a long time to develop, and they're most definitely going to get burned by vetran WR's their first year or so. If their confidence survives the first year, they generally do OK. The only real bust I see from this draft is Hardy. And even then I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because he never had to adjust his routes in college. He just ran the route and they threw it up to him. That won't work in the NFL. So is he smart enough to do the pre-snap read, then adjust his route during the play? So far it doesn't look like it. -
This is a weird year. A couple of weeks ago, everyone seemed ready to write the Cowboys off. Same with the Colts. There a a lot of 6-5 and 7-4 teams. At the beginning of the season, everyone seemed to be guaranteeing that the Patriots would walk through this division. And no one thought the Jets would be this good, even with Favre. Lots of things can happen. How would the division change if Favre got dinged up and missed a couple of games? The possibility of that happening increases every year he plays. Up until yesterday, people were talking about the new Fish "wildcat" offense like it was the reincarnation of the K-Gun. Welcome to the age of parity. I doubt the Bills will make the playoffs, but I wouldn't write them off.
-
Don't forget one thing about Hardy: He's being asked to do what he never had to do in college, and that's make pre snap reads of the DB alignments, and then adjustments to the route during the play. In college, he just ran the route called for and that was it It's a big step for most guys. His biggest contribution so far was against Jacksonville, and that was a simple fade to the back of the end zone, using his natural height advantage. So that's probably his best chance to help this year.
-
This is a good overall view. I'll take a further step back and say this: If the Bills' record was even decent, say 9-7 to 10-6, during the Donahoe era, he'd probably still be here. But the ultimate test of a GM, head coach or coaching staff's success is wins and losses. Win and you're all set. Lose.........

That's correct. Because of their resistance to the standard antibiotics, there's not much to stop them. Some hospitals have been flying in specialists from all over the country. Pretty nasty germs!
-
I live about an hour from Cleveland so we get a lot of Browns coverage here. As noted in the above posts, there seems to be a particularly virulent form of this bacteria in the team's facilities. But most fans seem to think that it's easy to get rid of. Not true.....the resistant forms are incredibly hard to eradicate, even in hospitals. After more than 50 years of antibiotics use, nature has unfortunately adapted.

BILLS - PHINS NOT THE SAME ANYMORE
gobillsinytown replied to TheBlackMamba's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was at every single home game against the fish from 1988 to 1996. The Bryan Cox era was the best. For one game, someone went out and bought a bunch of Dolphins trading cards, pulled out the Bryan Cox cards, and put them in the urinals of every men's room in the stadium. To this day, I would love to know who came up with that idea. This anonymous Bills Fan, a true hero for all of us to to see, will always have a special place in my heart as a shining example of how to elegantly express the hatred we all feel toward all things Miami. -
This is the same problem facing LeCharles Bentley. He was a big free agent acquisition by the Browns a few years back. Tore his ACL in camp, had surgery, then the knee got infected and the bacteria damaged musccle tissue. His career's over.
