  1. And drove the guy who coached them to the SB right out of town. There's nothing like a little perspective.
  2. I live an hour from Pittsburgh and have been to 6 games. Steelers fans are very savvy. They have a lot of football knowledge. Actually they remind me of Bills fans in the 90's. Very high expectations for sure.
  3. There are plenty of people who want the job. I'm amazed at why anyone would think otherwise, if they just thought even a little bit about the nature of the NFL and the men involved in it. It's the most competitive sport there is. It's full of guys with a tremendous amount of self confidence and a lot of ego. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to handle the commitment the job requres. So one can infer that plenty of guys would jump at the chance to turn this team around. it would be a huge achivement. There are equally plenty of guys who want to coach the Rams, Raiders, Lions and Bucs, all of whom have "mad" owners. Is Al Davis any more insane than Ralph?
  4. Is your avatar King Kong Bundy?? I want him as HC!!
  5. Oh good lord! Russ Grimm can't interview for the position right now because he's with a team that's in the playoffs. The NFL's anti tampering rules prohibit it. I'm glad you're a die hard fan, but you're reading way too much into every unconfirmed report, blog, rumor and spew that comes from the internet. Relax. After all, whomever the new coach is, no one is going to like it.
  6. The whole thing is fluff news. The initial report of some real estate agent "targeting" seven NFL franchises is a publicity stunt to get some attention, guaranteeing lots of reaction by the fans of the "targeted" teams. But in the age of internet pay per clicks, lots of attention is just what the guy wants.
  7. Beat me to it. So if April is going to either the Skins or the Steelers as the ST coach.....doesn't that seem like the opposite of the above statement? If he goes to the Skins, there's no way he's HC anytime soon. Same with the Steelers.
  8. The scouts don't make the final decisions. The scouts recommend a list of players. The scouts may have had two or three D linemen on their list. The HC/GM/player personnel people make the final decisions. In the case of the Bills, the decisions were probably made by committee
  9. Welcome to the world of internet rumor mongering. Makes the "old media" rumor mongering look like a toddler's tea party.
  10. Here's what appears to be the most unbiased update on the HC situation that I could find, from CBS Sports: "Off-limits this week since their teams are playing in the wild-card round but on Buffalo's radar are New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, Philadelphia defensive coordinator Sean McDermott and Arizona assistant head coach Russ Grimm. Bills general manager Buddy Nix has expressed that a coach with previous NFL head coaching experience has an advantage to being hired in his eyes. But that list isn't as star-studded as once thought with coaches such as John Fox in Carolina, Tom Coughlin with the Giants and Lovie Smith in Chicago holding on to their current posts. Ex-Denver coach Mike Shanahan, who spoke with Buffalo's chief executive officer Russ Brandon several weeks ago, signed to coach Washington. Ex-Pittsburgh coach Bill Cowher, meanwhile, reportedly met with Brandon and team owner Ralph Wilson but remains undecided about his future coaching desires. Ex-Baltimore coach Brian Billick's name continues to be linked to Buffalo as well but Buffalo's interest appears lukewarm. After failed experiments with Gregg Williams and Mike Mularkey in the recent past, Buffalo giving a current coordinator its head coaching post won't be a popular move with fans. One possibility is Marty Schottenheimer, a close associate of Nix from San Diego, being lured out of retirement. His son Brian would serve as offensive coordinator/assistant head coach then take over for his dad in one or two years." Seems like that's about right.
  11. What I find interesting is that all of the "big name" guys are getting up there in age. Isn't Parcells close to 70 now?
  12. Jim Ballard. Played his college ball in this area.
  13. I've always liked Freddy, but the Bills are going to need two backs to be succesful IMO. The NFL is turning into more of a passing league, but RB's get banged up a lot faster than they used to. So I hope we can keep Freddy and Lynch, or if not Lynch, someone who can at least contribute on a regular basis.
  14. KFFL reports that Cowher meeting with Bills front office today. I'm sure this will be denied and confirmed at least three or four times by the end of the day, but for what it's worth.......
  15. I had the misfortune of seeing one of the Boise majorettes.
  16. Being a good head coach takes a special kind of talent. I think Mularkey, Gilbirde, Henning, Williams, Jauron, etc. are good coordinators, but not head coaching material.
  17. Since Ralph's businesses are private, there's no real way to determine their total net worth. I don't know anything at all about the guy other that what I read. But one thing that can be reasonably inferred is that he is good with money. Ralph grew up during the Great Depression, so one can assume that he's conservative with his money. I would assume that he avoided the traps that caught so many people during this near depression, like investing in sub prime mortgages, credit default swaps, etc. So based on this, you could make the assumption that he's got a succession plan in place. There will also be tremendous polical pressure to keep the team in Buffalo. I know lots of uninformed people on this board think he's cheap, but he didn't get rich by being stupid with his money. He's a miser because he grew up in the worst financial crash in American history. No one has been able to convince me that lavish spending produces a consistent winner. The Redskins are the prime example. Snyder has been throwing money at that team since he bought it, bringing in big name free agents and "name" coaches. If Shannahan signs with the team, I think the result is going to be the same. Jerry Jones has been doing the same thing. So far, his return on investment has been lousy. One of the more "miserly" organizations in the league just won the Superbowl last year. I could go on. Ralph may be cheap, but he's not stupid with his money. I think that, if he can swing it, he'll try to keep the team in Bufalo after he dies.
  18. Don't worry about Alex. I'm sure he took care of his money over the years. It comes with the territory and he knows that.
  19. Don't feel sorry for the coaches. They knew it was coming. They're all big boys and they know what the NFL is about. Win and you keep your job. Lose and you're out. Sounds to me like Glazer is just writing up something to get clicks.
  20. If that's the case, then the majority of Bills' nation are going on my ignore list. I totally understand that some or lots of people will be ticked off about whomever's getting hired. But really......this is entertainment. People who hate the team should stop paying attention to it. There are plenty of examples of "unknown" coaches who were successful on their second try as HC. The prime example is Bellicheck. He was a disaster in Cleveland. I live an hour away from Cleveland and the clamor by Browns' fans for him to be fired was never ending. They got their wish.
  21. I don't know if "legit" outside of Buffalo really matters from a fan's standpoint. It might from a player's standpoint.
  22. I'm glad I qualified my post with "seems" like a classy player. I revise my opinion. Based on this new evidence, I now switch to the opinion that he is a d-bag. So now the follow up question: Is there any human being associated with the Pats that is NOT a d-bag?
  23. Was there any crying on the Pats sidelines?
  24. Coffin nail for the fish!! Willie Parker down to the 9 yard line. I know the Bills had a crappy year, but I love watching the Dolphins lose. Just wondering.....where's the Parcells magic now?
