Should we sign Ryan Leaf?
gobillsinytown replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just thought of another guy.....not only has a big arm, but can run: Akili Smith. -
Why do QB's go under center and not 100% shotgun
gobillsinytown replied to taterhill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When the QB is under center, there are more options available. For example play fakes. When the QB is back off center it limits the amount of running plays you can execute. The offense needs to keep changing up the pre snap looks so the defense can't key in on anything. -

Even better would be Dan McGwire. Tall, big arm, cute. The only knock on him is that he doesn't have Ryan's out-of-control temper and lack of impulse control. -
I see we're going to go through this with every coordinator, assistant and water boy the team hires. Can't wait to see all the negative stuff that will be dug up on the the guy that does game film cut ups.

Just another nut case running his mouth. The easy thing to do is to write a letter or a blog post about what they see as wrong with the world. It's harder for them to actually get off their fat duffs and do anything about it. Their "convictions" are in name only, to cover their hidden desire for attention.

Thank you.

Easterbrook on Nix/Slim Pickens
gobillsinytown replied to TheLynchTrain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow. Another opinion. -
See what I mean? 50-50 chance of getting a franchise guy. And the signing bonuses these guys are getting are out of control. I'd hate to have to write a 40 or 50 million dollar check to a guy who's going to flop.

Jim Kelly was pretty cocky until he grew up a little. But I think it can affect performance if a guy is so cocky that he tries to force passes.

I think that one pick alone has completely blown the Raiders apart. Al thinks Russell is going to be a good QB. His coaches don't agree. Because of the $$ involved, a first round pick can screw things up for years. The more I think about it, I say trade down for more picks
-
Nice discussion about football on this thread instead of the usual crap. I know very little about the QBs available for this draft, so the only thing I might add is that picking a QB in the first round has about a 50-50 success rate. Which is why more teams are trying to trade out of the first round. If you roll the dice and hit, your team is set for a decade. If not, you just spent a pile of money, set your team back, and wasted a first round pick. So the question becomes: Are any of the QB's franchise material?

we better have a DC in place
gobillsinytown replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not true. Coordinators are usually not there. Teams send their personnel people. -
That's a sad fact, but the defense is closer to a respectable 43 than a 34.

LOL, that's putting it mildly! I think "incendiary" would be a better way to describe some of his press conferences. You're right about one thing.......it doesn't really matter what some "unnamed" personnel guy on another team thinks. The NFL is full of strong willed guys. They dont' always get along very well. That leads to feuds that last for years. -
bills must go to 3-4 defense
gobillsinytown replied to Mr. Larry's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're right. We're not ready to switch. The most critical position for the 3-4 is the nose tackle. Without a great NT, the 3-4 becomes very porous. Great NT's are very hard to find, and their durability over time has gone down. I think the Bills are better served with the 43 as their base. I also think the cover 2 is no longer necessary with this defense. We have one of the best young secondaries in the league now, so the focus should be on shoring up the D-line at the point of attack. Specifically, two DT's who can stop the run. -

I understand that they can't go on record, but it seems to me that any real professional would not offer his opinions that way, even if he felt that way. There are a lot of strong personalities in the NFL, so there's going to be personality conflicts. Once again, I still don't understand this obsession with who is the worst team in the league, and why it matters: The "bottom" teams in the league: Bills St. Louis Cleveland Oakland Seattle Tampa Bay Kansas City Washington So, what makes Buffalo worse than the others? None of the teams at the bottom, with MAYBE the exception of Detroit, are showing any immediate upside. Here's the reality: If the Bills start winning, all media coverage will immediately start shifting. It's amazing how short everyeone's memories are. -
If they win this SB, you can definitely make the argument that he's the best of all time. Indy has a solid team, but sometimes this season I think they won games by the sheer force of Manning's will. The guy prepares harder for a game than anyone else in the league, and he makes the players around him prepare harder by example. To me they're the premiere example of what a team should be all about. I don't think his WR's would even be starting for some other teams. I can't see them losing the SB so long as they keep him upright. The Saints gave up a lot of points last night to a QB who is great but takes way too many chances. Manning's not going to do that.

No Name Coaching Staff = No winning season for Bills

Thank you. I'm sure Nix has a list of people he would like to hire, but that doesn't mean circumstances haven't changed for the people on that list, even over the past couple of weeks. This is typically a very busy time for team coaching staffs and front offices. There is a lot of hiring and firing going on all over the league, and a lot of positions are coming open. Not to mention that some of the people on Nix's list will be people who are on teams that are still playing. That's very common too, for the successful teams to get raided for assistants and scouts by other teams. Seems perfectly normal to me that they haven't announced the full staff yet.

Does Ralph Owe Buffalo a Succession Plan?
gobillsinytown replied to wisebill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not possible. If he had sold the team then, it would have been gone. The western new york area, like it or not, is not going to generate that amount of profit. The most profitable NFL teams are those that live in cities with significant corporate presence. The extra money they make comes from corporate naming rights, luxury suites and other sponsorships. Those revenue streams are not available in western new york. As far as debt load is concerned, any new owner buying the team 15 years ago would still be in debt. -
Chargers columnist disses the Gailey hire.
gobillsinytown replied to BLZFAN4LIFE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we need to find out what the columnists in Idaho, Montana and Oregon are saying. Then we can get real concensus of the country's opinion.
