Stand in line with me, to punch NBC in the face!
gobillsinytown replied to Lv-Bills's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Hi there. This is a Buffalo Bills/general sports board. There is another specific section for political rants. Look under "special topics". Thanks in advance for being logical and taking it over to that section. -
Ya but no one here killed anybody.

Concussions are unpredictable. Sometimes a player can get over it in a week or two.....or a year. Or sometimes they're never the same. At the QB position the brain has to process a lot of information in a very short period of time. It may be that Trent's brain hasn't fully recovered yet. Or worse, it won't recover. That's a sad thing and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Question for our NFL research experts: Has anyone successfully made the transition from DE to LB in recent years? It looks like Maybin is going to have to do it next year and I was wondering how many (if any) players in the last five years or so have made the transition. I can't think of anyone off the top of my head that's done it. If the Bills put him at OLB he's going to have coverage responsibilities too....just wondering.

Bills 3-4 Be Aggressive & Attacking
gobillsinytown replied to Mr. ChumChums's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jeff Wright was considered to be undersized back in the day. He made the most of what he had, but he could get pushed around by double teams. I remember the coaching staff coming up with schemes to move him back off the line of scrimmage to help him deal with double teams. He made it work because he was good enough at film study to read most plays. In today's league he'd get pushed around. So Kyle Williams +15 lbs isn't going to be enough. They need a true NT, and they're already hard enough to find. I think they go with the 43 -
Colts Greeted by 11 Fans at Airport

Seems like the bandwagon is getting lighter. If the Bills or Sabres ever win a championship, I'm driving back for the party no matter where I am! It would be truly epic. -
Article bashing Ralph

I worked in Lockport in the mid 1980's......my impression was of a bitter, sad community. This article reflects that. -
Your avatar and post suggest you're angry about something.

Since the NFL is more of a passing league now, running backs don't command the premium that they used to. But you still need two decent backs to really be effective. I think the Bills will look to trade him if they can, but they're not going to just let him go for nothing. If they can't get what they want in a trade, he'll stay until his contract is up. The days of the super high profile running back are over at least for now. I would think that the only way the team will dump him is if he gets into some more serious trouble, which seems to be a distinct possibility.

OH GOD NO!!! THE BILLS FOUND A NEW QB!
gobillsinytown replied to Bill Cowher's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Still not understanding all the drama and gnashing of teeth over this. They're not going to hand him the starting job. Unless we pick a QB with our #1, why not bring in some QB's and let them compete? -

Checkout Brett Favres bad ankle and hamstring

I would think injuries like that are fairly common.....but it's different when the guy is 40. There's no questioning he's a tough dude. -
Brady was a 6th rounder. Picking a QB in the first round is like flipping a coin. 50-50 chance he makes it. Plus, you'll be paying 1st round QB money. I'm not saying the Bills shouldn't take a QB in the first round, but if they do there had better be no doubt in their minds about it. In this situation a first round QB is going to be expected to start immediately.

Then again, it might not be prudent to say something like: "my boss sucks" two days after you're hired.

Eric Wood walking again
gobillsinytown replied to Rust Belt Nights's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope he makes it back 100%, and there's a good chance he will. However, compound fractures are somewhat more complex, especially if there is any vascular damage from the break. There is also the possibility of muscle atrophy, which makes one leg shorter than the other. Based on the info so far, it looks like Eric will avoid those problems. He's also getting top notch care. Mostly, he's just a tough determined kid with the right mindset, so I'm thinking he'll be fine. -
Julius Peppers.....about to become an UFA
gobillsinytown replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There ya go. Just because an owner can spend the money doesn't mean he should. Snyder in Washington has thrown big money at all the top free agents almost every year, and has nothing to show for it. The last time Ralph threw big money at free agents were with Dockery and Walker. Neither lived up to their hype, and haven't since they left. The only free agent Ralph should have kept was Peters, and even that's debatable considering how much it would have taken to keep him here. I think his play is too inconsistent to throw that kind of money at him. He plays like the best LT in the game for stretches, and then seems to lose his concentration and focus. -
Eric Wood walking again
gobillsinytown replied to Rust Belt Nights's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Informed? How so? Every injury is different. Some players have come back from it, others haven't. It depends on where the break occured and how the player approaches rehab. Provided that the injured leg wasn't shortened due to muscle atrophy, Wood has a good chance of playing, considering his work ethic and high pain tolerance, which he will need once serious rehab begins. -
I remember it specifically: Ralph said they gave the owners 45 minutes to go through the document. 45 minutes for a legally binding contract that will affect business for the next 7 years? Of course, most of the owners didn't like it either but did not comment becasue they thought they would be cast in a negative light. Ralph doesn't care about that. So he was slammed by juvenille reporters as being too senile to understand the agreement. Afterwards, Mike Brown in Cincinnatti and the owner of the Jags publicly came out in favor of Ralph's position. Jerry Jones and Snyder were portrayed as being unsympathetic to the small market owners' position. What Jerry and Dan don't realize is that the NFL is the dominant sport in the US because of the unique collaborative nature of the NFL that almost all the other professional leagues have tried to emulate, none as successfully as professional football. By NFL owner standards, Jones and Snyder are punks. They want to continue to increase their profits without having to sacrifice. That's not the NFL's original concept. The original concept was that as an owner, you already had plenty of money from your other business ventures and that NFL ownership was something you did out of a love for the game of football. Of course, the world has changed and professional football has geometrically grown as has the money involved. I think a deal will get done, because even punks like Jones, Snyder and Kraft realize that an agreement needs to be in place to maintain stability. Right now there's a lot of posturing and fear-mongering going on, but eventually a deal will get done.

Eric Wood walking again

Just read the article. He's a great kid and I hope there's no setbacks. Based on what I read he won't have surgery to take the screws and the rod out unless it's absolutely necessary. Sounds like he's well educated about the injury and how to recover from it. -
What are you having at your Pro Bowl party?

This Pro Bowl is brutal
gobillsinytown replied to gobillsinytown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Continuing the brutality is Gruden trying to make this sound like it's some sort of marquee matchup. So far I haven't seen anything other than touch football in pads. At least in previous years they could cut to shots of Hawaii's scenery and beach babes. -
I have no idea why I'm watching this.........but I'm regretting it. Is Byrd there at all?

Makes sense considering the state of the O-line. The O-line could get better if everybody stays healthy and they pick up someone decent in the draft, but as of now it's a mess.
